Ciao

First thanks for this intriguing thread @BobDx123 and all the gang here.

Here is my entry contribution:

Dodge SRT Tomahawk VGT (Gr.1)
Race: 23:48.113
FL: 1:31.713

FYI I'm an over 65 virtual driver.
DS5 AT so just a bit of fuel economy for 1 pitstop.

Welcome to the group, It’s nice to see more people participating, glad to have you all here 👍

@lfm58 Nice job getting into Club 23, and with a new addition 🔥 , you’re listed at the top of the first post for that. There are 14 cars now in that list

Do you remember off hand how you had it setup? ie Tires, power, ballast. No big deal, just curious

Setup is still wip on suspension & TX.
Basically not so much power (no turbo) otherwise become difficult to get 7 FM1 laps with AT.

Tried a couple of swapped cars this time.

Nissan R34 GT-R V-spec II Nur '02 (SWAP)

Great fun this one, definitely recommended. 4WD with R92CP engine works great. A bit understeery and shreds front tires though. Used @Turbodatsun setup with praiano suspension and LSD settings.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS (991) '16 (SWAP)

Very easy to drive and can get 1 stop with FM6 and some short shifting. Used praiano setup.

Ferrari F40 '92 (SWAP)

Another car that handles great, even faster than 911, but needs a 2 stop with FM6. Praiano setup.

TVR Tuscan Speed 6 '00 (SWAP)

Not sure if that was a setup issue, but I found this one to be terrible to drive on praiano setup. Shreds rear tires and is very tricky to apply power. Used TC to make it somewhat manageable.

Long time lurker on this forum, ive used a lot of the resources like the praiano tunes and stuff and was getting really bored grinding for the cars, but this thread has made sardegna 800 so much fun again.

Finally made it into the 23 minute club!! Fastest lap 1.29, lapping 1.30ish out of traffic and 1.31-1.33 through traffic. No idea how i could possibly lose another minute to get into the 22 club. Hats off to the monsters lapping 1.27 consistently.

This was with a controller and auto transmission FM 2,3,4 through the first stint, pit lap 8 then FM 2+1 til the end.

Ive not had a chance to get my wheel out with R29CP yet so hopefully can bring this down a bit.

I need to learn to use MT, seems like this is the key to being able to run at FM1 the whole race and make use of the engine braking. Any tips?

Thanks!

Well done on breaking the 23 minute barrier 👏 The best tip I can give is to watch the @Turbodatsun video he‘s so consistent and watching it really helped me with my braking points and ideal speed and line through the corners - I‘m nowhere near what he can do but I’m trying each day to break into the 22 club. Good luck

What an awesome tune TurboDatsun has provided on the R92CP. I did version 6, I think. I used to be exclusively a 787B guy but decided to try out the tune on the Nissan. It is sooo much easier to drive at pace even on the dual-sense gyro controller.

Second try out of the gate, sub 24 with a 23.48.882. Best lap time of 1:31.07. FM2 to 4 for first 8 laps and mostly FM2 for last 7 laps.

My third attempt was a little slower but for the first time ever I got a 1:29.xx lap time.

@Larzi- would you happen to have a tune for the 919 hybrid,Toyota gr010 hybrid 12’ or the Lexus RC f gt500 you would be willing to share ?
Here. I have no idea what gear strategy I used, but drive 7 lap first, pit in and then 8 laps. You can practice fuel saving on the first stint for the longer second stint. Fuel map always 1.

Impossible to spin in this car. You can step on the gas without worry, even if half the car is on the grass.

I have driven another session with Tomahawk trying to use Turbo.
Actually I reduced power as needed for FM1 7x laps / AT.
Moreover I found on youtube a semi-stock but very agile suspension setting proposed by Skull Busters.
At the end I got a faster setup, here is:

All the best

Peugeot L760R HYbrid VGT 2017 Gr.1
23:10.028
1:29.827

Strategy: 8 laps - pit in (no tire change) - 7 laps. FM1 the whole race.

Can this car go under 23min? Maybe, but it has to be very precise driving. Maybe a total of 3 unnecessary seconds were lost in this race, but in order to get under 23 minutes, I would have to improve every lap time by 0.8s. Optimal lap was 1:29.2. Car can go even faster, but then it consumes too much fuel. PP in this setup is 797.70 because it is slightly glitched. Any extra click to aero or weight balance will raise it to 820. My previous Mazda LM55 setup is glitched in the same way, but not as big of PP difference.

Great tune, thanks Larzi! I tried it out last night but couldn't quite manage your pace. Best lap at 1:33 and total time just a bit over 24mins. I do love the drive though, the car is planted and fun - will definitely try again.

What was your pit strategy? I tried FM1 for 7 then FM2 for the rest. No change of tires.

First 7 and then 8 laps. FM1 for both stints. Upshift mid revbar for shorter and 1/4 or earlier for longer stint. I also used a bigger gear in a couple of corners to save more fuel. Long left-hander was one of them. Yeah no need to tire change.

Checked my archives and saw I had a fastest lap with the McLaren F1 GTR Race Car '97 - from 25th April so current physics?
Fastest lap: 1:32.855, Total Race: 25:18.096.

I bet @Larzi- can eek a lot more out of it. Speaking of, would you mind sharing your tune for the 919 Hybrid? Your time is epic and keen to try again.

I remember F1 GTR Race Car being very thirsty and required heavy fuel saving. Fast lap times have to be sacrificed for 1 stop tactics, but I want get that car under 24min so I will revisit it in future.

919 Hybrid tune is here:

Great times posted guys 👍

@blitz911 , @Seve212 provided a great resource with that video. If you haven’t already done so, using one of Turbodatsun’s R92CP tunes should be really helpful, they have evolved over time. In addition to the one (I believe is displayed) in that race there are other iterations that can be found on the first page of this thread. My 2nd post (below the leaderboards) has a list of tunes I’ve been compiling from various posts throughout this thread. I listed Turbo’s tunes from the first he posted to the most current ie v4, v5 & v6.
The newer ones sacrifice power to use RS tires making higher fuel maps unnecessary.

There are a couple members here (I believe @tmtk ) that have been quite successful with Auto Trans but switching to manual will definitely lower your times, some cars more than others.

There have been a number of discussions about it in this and other threads. I brought it up a short while back here to make just a few points of the benefits

@sartori and other members. Here are some more of the tunes Larzi shared awhile back that I have not finished consolidating yet. It’s a project I started that still has a lot of work left. Page 12 of this thread has a number of car tunes, including the GR010 and Larzi’s strategy. As mentioned above, they can also be accessed from a list on the 2nd post of page 1

He has info for the following Cars that can be found at the link below (not the page 12):

919 Hybrid ‘19 (Gr.1)
Toyota Gr010 ‘21 (Gr.1)
Lexus RC-F GT500 ‘16 (Gr.2)

@Larzi-

Nice times and tunes with both the LM55 and L750R. Similar to your experience, the more cars I’ve examined the more rampant glitchy-ness is apparent.

I tried a modified version of your tune for the LM55 and right out the gate got a 23:47. Obviously there was a lot of room for improvement as I made a number of errors. However it shows thats it easily a sub 24, even with plenty of mistakes.

Regarding the L750R… few things.

So, you fulfilled my prediction from back in June about it’s performance, lol, actually even faster by a few seconds, I was thinking low teens.

…. I’m confident it’s currently the fastest car at Sardegna, behind only the Escudo & Group C options.

I made several different tunes … They were all capable of laps in the low-mid 1:30’s in TT with event settings on so race times should be able to get to the 23 teens. I only brought out each tune once, and even with mistakes, they were fast races…. I 100% sure the suspension/LCD can be improved upon by others, possibly lowering the time to break 1:30, I just found a starting point to work with.
Again, these were my first races out with both of them, not my best work. I had traffic in some unfortunate places as well causing a couple pretty rough laps. Shouldn’t be difficult to get 23:20’s and I’m sure I will end up in the teens if no mistakes are made.

View attachment 1265086

Regarding fuel, I had a couple thoughts. Have you tried making 6th gear a LONG overdrive? I know this may sound a little crazy but sometimes after reaching target speed on the 2 straights I’ll throw into a LOW RPM 6th gear (may be ~425kph depending on setup), and on the straight after T15 turn sometimes I’ll turn the fuel map down to 6 until brake time for T1 (again after reaching target speed for finish line).

Also, I’m not sure if you tried any tunes with slightly lower power but you may be able to save another 5 seconds from not changing tires if the fronts are burned less… Could also try a rear ballast tune, however, not sure if you’re not already holding on to them for the last stretch.

I think two-stopper is the way to go with McLaren F1 GTR. Better luck with lapped cars and couple 1:30 hot laps should be enough. I also tested very long 6th gear suggested by @BobDx123, but the gas consumption didn't drop enough.

Thanks for this. Kind of cool to get in here and feel like I'm almost being competitive. Still a long ways to go, but the more time I spend, just kind of keep getting a little better. Still Auto Trans. Don't know if I'll ever get ambitious enough to go manual.
So just did a 23.30.428 using Turbodatsun's tune v6. My handle is Buttpastespatula, btw. If you've ever had kids in diapers, you know.

@Larzi- …. WOW, you’re a beast. Congrats on all the Gr.1’s, you now hold the record times for 27 different cars!!! 16 for Club 23. So I think we are likely close to, or possibly at the limit for the number capable of dipping under 24 (except possibly a couple more of the swaps, still need more data on that)

Couple questions…

Do you think your times with the cars below are likely UNABLE to make? Your wicked fast so have no idea if you just took them out for a spin or two or brought them to their limits.
NSX Concept ‘16
Mc lauren F1 GTR ‘97
Toyota TS030
Lexus RC F GT500 ‘16

The other 2 that looked pretty close were the
Gran T F1500T & X2019 that RealPlonker drove. Not sure if you’ve tried them. He’s fast too but again no idea if he invested in the tune and did just a single race or 4.

Anyway, you’re killin it on this track, great for sharing all the tunes as well 👍

Nice Time! and lol about the paste/Handle.

I remember it from back in the early 2000’s for my kids. My sister just had a baby and when I brought it up was surprised to see she had it on hand, it certainly has stood the test of time.

Welcome to Sardegna’s Leaderboards

Whether you’re a beginner level or expert, we welcome submissions of all race times with any car (although most people skip Gr.3 cars as the AI uses them in the race). Older race times are good to post as well, so long as they are from after March 30th 2023 when update 1.31 was released as significant changes affecting handling, physics and the pp system made earlier periods no longer comparable.

——————-
Submit your time by posting a screenshot or picture of the post race results that shows time & fastest lap. Its helpful to include those times as text in the post for me to transfer the info to the leaderboards. When submitting multiple times in one post consider adding a summary at the top or bottom with the times grouped together.
Click the following for an example
Multiple Race Times and look at the bottom.

——————-
Directly below are recognitions of three unique levels of achievement. Scroll further to find the following leaderboards:
  1. One ordered by the fastest finish time for each car, acknowledging the driver
  2. One that lists all cars and acknowledges every driver that posted a time with it
  3. One with the same info as first, grouped and organized by car type + alphabetically. *This is the easiest way to find info about a specific car and whether or not anyone has raced with it yet.

Today I learnt something. I have always thought that using different fuel maps is a slower way to drive than short shifting. And I still am. BUT when short shifting can't go on earlier and earlier endlessly, fuel mapping + short shifting is the next best thing. I realized this only when I was testing the chaparral 2j with the Praiano settings and his instructions were to short shift and use FM3. I tested both ways, just short shifting earlier and short shifting + fuel mapping. The results were surprisingly clearly in favor of the latter.

Earlier today I drove the F1500T in several races. First 24:02, then 24:04 and finally 24:00.4 and the speed wasn't quite enough in the second stint and I struggled with gas. Because to save gas I had to change gears so early that the power in the engine wasn't really enough. I felt like I had to run a really perfect race to get under 24 minutes. But when I learned that short shifting + fuel mapping is a faster way, I broke the 24 min mark quite easily, and it felt that it was slightly worse driving than before.

One stop and a tire change, but I think this can be done without a tire change.

I tested several gr.3 cars today and tested their capabilities. Most of them are in full tune just 800 pp or slightly less. But oh boy those are difficult to drive in full tune. FR cars are a bit more drivable, but MR cars are death traps. The BRZ was clearly the fastest of all that I tested.

In McLaren I had to cut down my speed significantly in order to have a clean race without spin.

Over 1200 kilometers driven today, the second most I've driven in one day.

Tune: RH tires, otherwise same as turbodatsun's gr.1 tune.
1 stop, FM1. I used FM2 over half of the second stint, but short shifting little bit more was actually faster.

Praiano's tune but I used a normal gearbox so I could add some extra power to the engine.
2 stops, FM2-4.
