You know I don't see why people think so highly of Perez's F1 talent. I think he's a pretty poor pay driver like Maldonado.

I don't rate him high either. He's not terrible, but he needs to improve. Then again Sauber's strategies in 2011 were pretty boring.

They had a pretty meh car. What was the most you were expecting of them?

The good thing that can be said about Peter Sauber's team is that they punch above their weight. It's just a shame they lack the budget to be a weighty operation. Perez has made a very favorable first impression.

Respectfully,
Steve

Agreed on Sauber being a solid midfield outfit. They deserved a win during the pre-BMW era. Always used to root for Johnny Herbert.

I bet that if a higher paying driver came along he would be out the door because they don't have time to develop that potential. Look what happened with Petrov.

Petrov was a combination of things, one his money hasn't come in as far as backers go. The other issue is Petrov left on his own and wasn't dropped, at lesat that is was Lotus GP have said. Last but not least, Perez didn't openly bash his team and their development of a car over a year, for any team that is a big slap to the face unless your Lewis Hamilton or Jenson Button.

These things are why Petrov doesn't have a seat, and it is rumored that he will be buying Trulli's seat, but due to slow money and other things (ask PM he knows) that is the reason it hasn't been said. Also not sure how much you know about Telemex but they're the largest telecommunications provider in mexico for one and are also known for charging the most in their area of the world when you look at income to monthly payment stats.

In other words Perez has a gravy train to ride on that is backed by the second and at time richest man in the world! I could bet safely that his backing rivals that of Pastor. The Ferrari Academy is just a trump card. I know what you were trying to say but I had to point out what was wrong with the statement.

As for the car I hope they make its livery look better this year. Its looked like no frills supermarket packaging for the last few years!

You need to look past Sauber's very poor race strategies. Both Kobayashi and Perez were victims of Sauber's overly optimistic ambitions of gaining an advantaged by stopping 1 less than time than everyone else. They did it every race and while the car clearly could handle it...it was very rarely a favourable strategy and inevitably made the drivers either look terrible at defending (e.g. Kobayashi at Hungary) or make them look invisible as they rarely featured at the top of the time sheets.

To give an example of some great driving by Perez, he defended and raced very well against Rosberg at the British Grand Prix. To me that showed a very mature drive and he didn't lose his head. It was one of the things that really struck me when I was there spectating (as it was one of the few battles that was consistently going on that race).

I actually hope Sauber screw up and make a car terrible on its tyres just so we can see some more aggressive driving from both their drivers. That or Sauber should just fire whoever was deciding to gamble on the same damned strategy every race.

That gunmetal gray/sort of matte grey is amazing. Once again thank you Joie de vivre!

Also as far as the car goes, notice the carbon pieces being further down the nose, more so mid nose rather than at the tip. I wonder how that will play out, maybe Sauber see it better for downforce as far as the step nose and wing configuration go.

Also like their past two cars, the nose seems to stick out further with the front wing being pushed back more down the nose.

Very small sidepods and inlets, the exhaust exit hardly noticeable.

Actually nothing new I presume except of flat topped nose.

FW is also pretty much the same, nothing extraordinary.

Still, pretty good looking car. The colour looks great, and those wheels look good in black.
I doubt it, but I still hope they can advance up through the midfield.

I like the livery, I think it looks simple but good!

The stepped-nose is sort of Ferrari-ish but I think Sauber's has a little less gradient. The front wing concept is similar to Force India's. They've retained their rims but it's no longer relevent because they're now in black. The aero bit under the front suspension is pretty similar to McLaren's minus the plough.

It looks fierce, I like it!

Very nice either way, and the exhaust exit is quite similar to that of McLaren. A small hole that seems to face toward the wing rather than the rear ducting of the brakes.

I wonder what's that big curvy thing that connects from the rear wing to the back of the car in the middle. Does it has a function?

The colors are very nice IMO and I understand why they painted the nose in that color (to try and conceal to bump on the nose) but I dont like the livery design all that much

I wonder what the slits/vents by the driver are for under the Telemex logo.
They're just to aid in cooling. It's something BMW/Sauber have experimented with over the last few years. I can't quite recall if they've stuck with them consistently though.

They get my vote as Oerlikon was the name of a bad-ass anti-aircraft maritime gun in WWII.

Cool livery there, with the carbon fiber look skirts.

Platypus nose alert!
This new Sauber looks classic!..well, almost. 👍

Interesting engine cover.

Goddamn, I must the the one person who thinks it's horrid. I just do not like these stepped noses. I just don't. They may be good aerodynamically, but they've ruined every car aesthetically so far. The black nose really doesn't help, either.

I've just noticed they've gone the same route as McLaren with the exhausts, pointing to the rear wing. What advantages does this have over having the exhaust gases going directly over the brake ducts?

Yeah, that thing has always been with Sauber since the C29 but wasn't on the F1.09 BMW...

We won't know where McLaren's are going because Martin Whitmarsh has just admitted that their exhaust were dummies and if I read that correctly, the bulge was to cover the actual configuration of the exhaust.

Interesting. I'm trying to think of what else they could do in regards to the configuration of the exhaust that hasn't already been done.
