Hey Guys

Just thought id ask if you are sellers of cars or keepers?. I personally keep the cars even if they suck. I may from time to time check out the "dead metal" and sell a couple at a time for extra $$$. Other than that i tend to keep most of the cars i aquire. I really am unsure as to what cars will be needed to complete the races, so i guess that keeps me from selling something i may later need. What do you guys n gals do?

I just wish the makers found a way which made it impossible to enter a race previously won and car aquired, to enter it again, just with the intent on winning the same car just to sell it. It kinda feels like cheating a little. By all means enter the race again to race on the same track in a different car, and win the money again. But please dont award us the same car we already won as it takes something away from the game. Or is that just me thinking that?.

I agree! That is why GT3 was kind of cool, even though there was a way to cheat the save and load thingy to win the cars you want, I didn't since it was cool getting a car randomly picked out of 4 cars, like with one of the tournaments, you can win the gillet vertigo, but instead I won a much more fun and cool Mini Cooper 1.3i! The most fun car in GT3 ever.

But seriously, they need to add the random prize car thingy again, I thought it was cool.

I never realised that GT3 had that random prize car thingy. Any reasons as to why it wasnt carried over into GT4?, as it does sound a better way of doing things. GT4 has tons more cars than GT3, so its not like it would be an issue.

I basicly sell all the cars that I don't use or don't like. I have so many cars already and I just don't see a need for more clutter. :) Also, I loved the random car pick in GT3. It allowed people to have different rare cars and different garages!👍

I'm a keeper!
I've just started GT3...again!
So I haven't sold any cars yet.

As for GT4, I have 94.6% complete with nearly 700 cars in the garage.
I sold a few in the begining to progress but won them back again.
I have bought most of the second hand cars to unlock them in arcade mode.
Once I bought them I kept them.

I keep the first one I win then sell the duplicates when I redo the series generally.

If you could only win a prize car once then I wouldn't have been able to get a Mercedes 300SL in every color, or '54 Vette.

I much prefer the GT4 way to the way it was done in GT3. I gave up on GT3 because I was sick of racing the same car over and over in the same series over and over; money was just too hard to come by and I didn't feel like I was making any progress.

Money is hard to come by in GT3? :odd: There are 2 lap races that gives 10g, and 3 lap races that give 30g. Also, save it on the race before the last race in the tournament, then skip the last race, and if you don't win your car, then just load it, and skip the race, and do over and over. Money in GT3 was more fun to earn IMO. But I have nothing against your opinion. 👍

In GT1 you could win 250k in the Normal Car series. GT2 had that race on Red Rock Valley that got you the Speed 12 worth 500k.

10k isn't even half what you need for a decent set of tires.

Basically, I gave up on the thing when I was just getting to the point where I could win that first 10k race. I started doing the arithmetic on how many times I'd have to win that race to be able to buy and set up another car, decided it just wasn't worth it.

I tend to keep all the cars I buy or win. Generally sell all the ones I have double, except if it's a model I really like or a model with two different setups. I check my garage from time to time and sell the ones I no longer need, but most of the time I keep my garage tidy. ;)

In answer to the question at hand: I keep a lot, but I sell a lot too. It's harder(less interesting) in some ways to make and keep "big bank" and some of the cars are uber-expensive.

As an aside:
All of the GT games have their shining momemts and their "what the hell were they thinking momemts".
I love GT1 for the challenging tracks, and the fact the you know how much HP the cars you're racing have. Hated the fact the setting up a car was so difficult.
GT2-loved all the great tracks, RR Valley being one of my favorites, but it has the absolute worst graphics of any of the GT games. And the fact that the AI can "cheat" in certain series.
GT3-Had way too few cars, but you can tune down cars for interesting races
As seen by Uncle Bob winning the Rome Enduro with a Pitz!
GT4-Has the cars of GT2 + many others, has a huge garage, more tracks than you can shake a stick at, though you can't race at one of the Suzuka tracks, and you race some of the best cars.

If i find myself not using a car much, i'll usually sell it, but if i use it often or it was difficult to obtain, i'll keep it

I like to keep at least one of everything (bar useless pieces of krud metal -nike crap), as well as redoing the one event until i get all the different paint varieties or particular cars i do like the look of. Any extras are sold off.

Well I am both usually. If the car is rare and not worth vast pots of dough then I usually keep it. But even then some expensive rare cars I will keep. But certain cars like the AMG Mercedes CLK GTR and the Toyota RSC Rally Raid I sell almost instantly. They are worth loads and easy to obtain again. They also got me where I am today on GT4 without selling them I wouldn't have even got to the GTWC.

We'll never know the reason why random car prizes weren't carried over to 4; I think most gamers actually didn't like it as they kept winning cars they didn't want. Anyways, Polyphony Digital is always changing features from game to game.

Personally, I like the random replay feature in GT3. If you put it on random, the replay would go from car to car just like a real race, which means I didn't have to sit there toggling from car to car.

Anyways, to answer this thread, I have several GT4 games going; each with a different memory card and driver(s). My yuppy driver, for instance, would keep a BMW or a Lexus but would sell a Chevelle. My white-trash driver would sell a BMW or Lexus but keep the Chevelle. :) It all depends on the driver!

Yeah man, why not, I have doubles of other cars aswell, so why not it also. Plus it's worthless to sell it so I'd rather just keep it.

I'm a little of both.

I run races, search through the used car lots and aquire cars.

I start looking through my garage and notice I have like 10 of a particular car. (multiple colors w/ some duplicates)

I go through and start selling off cars that I really had no use for, have multiple colors of, or can't remember why I bought something to begin with.

Repete the process.

I try to limit myself to 3 or 4 of the same model cars in diffrent colors, or diffrent levels of upgrades. (I.E. 1 car stock w/ no perminate upgrades, 1 car with all available upgrades, 2 cars because I liked the color.)

Except my collection of Plymouth Superbirds. I have about 10 of them. 1 with perminate upgrades, 1 with non-perminate upgrades and 8 undriven cars. (There are just so many color choices available for them)

The only cars that I have that will not be sold off even though I don't drive them is the 6.2 specials.

Greetings All Ye Purveyors Of Used Iron!
Mine own career is as an Automotive Remarketing Agent. For those with furrowed brow, used car salesman. Just above lawyers, and just below hookers on the credibility scale. I have been able to indulge in my automotive passions for many years and cannot begin to recall all the vehicles that have passed through my hands these many years. The only keeper has been my trusty steed, a 2000 Toyota Tacoma Extra cab 4 cylinder automatic, with 265,000 on the clock.
My GT4 experience has mirrored my habits, as I have only 76 cars in my stable, the rest is fodder for barter. I have sold a couple of hundred throughout the course of the game, mostly to acquire the uber costly, in order to be competitive in the Cup Series. My favorites to race are well worn, yet as comfortable as old slippers, and I have become quite proficient in winning with lesser cars. So consider me a seller, and not a keeper.

I pretty much whore the cars. Unless something is that dreadful, I just hang on to it. I like to have a full garage so I can just pick a car, and jump in, and not have to worry about buying a new car.

I've told this story before but...

I played to about 55% keeping absolutely everything. At that point I sold everything except a select few and totalled well into the millions. Spent every cent on new race cars and costly street cars... Sold all of them after using them for one day (to unlock in arcade), then bought more and repeated the process. Eventually I unlocked every racecar in the game except for 2 (V6 Pescarolo and Panoz Esperante).

After that I continued playing until reaching 100%... I then went through (to date) atleast 3 cycles of buying and modifying cars that would build my total car count to 600-800 then the cars were sold (garage was cleaned out) and the process started again.

Right now I'm at about 400 cars, many more race cars than usual (I plan to keep them) and lots of custom tuned street cars (with very few "weak" street cars in the garage).

All in all, I sell cars eventually (unless I can't win it or buy it again).

Like Kent I began my game as a keeper, but as the game progressed I found it more and more time consuming sifting through my bloated garage, thus the clearout began. However I was selective when it came to selling, only allowing duplicate cars to leave my garage for good.

Now, with over 700 different cars in the garage I am mostly a seller. Whenever I win a new car I either sell it, or it's double from the garage. I see no point in keeping duplicate cars - even re-colours are sold as they tend to drive much the same whatever colour they are. The only exception to this rule are the obvious black beauties.

Only a few more racecars to buy (Panoz, Peugeot 905 and the Pescarolos) and I should have every car in the game available to drive in GT mode as well as arcade.

I kept everything until I wona race and had a message saying my garage was full!

I then had a "Swiss Toni" clearout.

Fun looking at the 24 flavours of TVR cars I had... I think I still have two of each used TVR ... per colour, and that is alot of Cerbera and Griffith cars!

I had early in the game discovered the Capri Easy event... but used it to run a test of the used cars in the game... this provided a huge amount of information for me and a Panzer division of about 50 RSC's ready to trade in for any car I needed.

If only the game had a 2 lap race of the Nurburgring which gave some random "nice" car...

👍 to the above

I tend to keep the cars I win and like, sell others. No point keeping cars you're never going to use- unless you are trying to get all the cars in the game?

Like others mentioned, its a shame they didn't keep the classic Mini for GT4 though:dunce:

I like to sell all the cars I dont like, even the rare one's so I get to drive my favorites more often. If you have too many cars you may overlook some cars you like.

Do you have to aquire every car in the game to reach 100% completion?
Whether you sell them or not.
