I try to slow down a bit on turns, but it's hard to balance the ethics of serving a penalty when you're also trying to compete and win a race.

Never slow down - just after the game came out I was winning by 2.5 seconds but had 3 seconds of penalties going into the final straight at Kyoto - Yamagiwa (I had run wide at the last chicane on lap 3 of a 4 lap race). I raced hard to try to build up a gap of more than 3 seconds but he stayed in touch and since it was probably going to be his first win I should just let him cross the line first so I backed off completely. He crossed the line in first and I coasted across the line about 1.5 seconds after him, only to discover he had 1 second of penalty time left to serve so if I'd just carried on racing to the finish I would've won the race.

:nervous:

FWIW it was his first win.

That's my idea as well. I'll push it to the end as chances are the other person might have a penalty left as well. Sometimes I don't push for an overtake though when I still have a penalty left, draft close to the finish which sometimes gets rewarded by the car in front having a bigger penalty. If I slow down out of the last corner, they will too and chances are the outcome will be different, plus it feels weird to finish driving slow.

Anyway penalties should be permanent imo. GR.1 yesterday had tons of red dots in the result screen with plenty of people cutting the last chicane to get ahead. At least the game should recognize an illegal overtake and do more than a 3s penalty. Of course only if you don't get knocked into a penalty zone.
