Severe Lack Of Locations?

Anyone else finding and getting bored of the same tracks? Dirt 2 suffered horribly from this and it seems 3 is even worse? Im only on the 3rd season triangle so far....does it get better?

Lack? There may be a lack of unique geographic locations, but there's certainly not a lack of track variety. You can only race in so many desert locations before you say "why do we need to race in Death Valley and Kenya?"

Each geographic location provides a unique combination of terrains - each track on those terrains doesn't need to have its own unique graphical location to that end.

To get the feel of rallying, you do need the geographical locations to make the difference. The tarmac in the Michigan stages will be nothing like the tarmac of a Corsica stage or like the featureless, foggy British forest stages. To not include a British stage as a British developer is a massive oversight.

I find the stages a bit bland compared to Dirt 2. I wouldn't mind the lack of locations if the stages were more exciting.

In dirt2 you had lots of technical sections and little bumps here and there that would offset the car at brake zones and such. But here its mostly flat stages with a rather predictable jump here and there.

Also the rally cross stages are also quite bland. In dirt2 again you had the jumps, water splash and curbs that made the racing exciting. Here it's mostly flat stages with very wide corners.

I like the biggie stages tho as they offer lots of bumpy surfaces mixed in with turns eight after. That's pretty fun.

Let's see here. You've got: 1) Norway, 2) Finland, 3) Kenya, 4) Michigan, 5) Battersea, 6) Aspen, 7) the Smelter, 8) Los Angeles and 9) Monaco.

I agree, bland racing, not much of a challenge, seems anyone can hop in and race to win with ease, you can almost hold down the gas pedal the whole time, even around some hair pins. I will lose interest quickly with this game, I do love the gymkhana though, but that's it.

I'm a bit disappointed by the amount of tracks and also the variety. I expected a bit more after seeing the CM diaries. If you combine all the Finland stages you don't even get one long real WRC stage.

Stages are also flat out all the way, with some minor breaking in som hairpins. The time trail leaderboard hotlaps are all full throttle. Bit boring really.

I am also disappointed by the lack of other locations like japan, spain etc. Apart from that where is the rally?

There isn't any.
No shakedowns, no damage to carry over and work on. Nothing.

It's a all sorts game made up of bits here and there.
Made primarily for the casual gamer.

I am actually amazed this game is getting rave reviews.
Not sparking a war here but it's nowhere near as good as recent releases.

I've only gotten into the second season mind so I may be wrong but I'm not liking the experience so far.
Finland then off to bash blocks, off to Africa back to Finland. Flat out turns. Tracks too short.

Career feels all over the place.

I'm not bothered by the number of locations in DiRT 3, but I would have loved to see locations such as the UK, Japan and Australia included in the game.

I am about to wrap up season 4, before continuing to the World Tours for their respective events.

I am more than happy with track diversity in this game. There is plenty to choose from and with the suggestion of future dlc (check your trophies/achievements) it will only get better.

I totally agree. It seems reviewers and people agreeing with them have never played a game before. How can something with sooooo little substace get above a 5 outta 10?

Now if you are 12-16yo i can see the dude-speak, gymkhana, hoonigans, flashy menues, and total arcade style game be entertaing, as it does not take much attention. I as was expecting so much more .

I find the changeup in career fun, keeps things fresh, however, longer stages and longer rally's would be nice.. more racing and less gymkhana.

The Colin McRae games that have been released over the years have always been my favourite rally games. Then they introduced Dirt, which was a little more diverse that a plain Rally game, which I thought was refreshing. And after that they went downhill, introducing game modes that nobody wanted, colorful menus for little kids, overall too mainstream... I WANT A GOOD RALLY GAME!!! Is that really so hard? FIA WRC was a good idea but felt crap, so DEVS, please make a rally game for people that have been round for years and enjoyed Colin McRae games. I guess that is why Colins name doesn't figure in the title anymore, it is not the same game anymore. I used to buy DiRT series as soon as they were released, but now I'll probably won't buy them anymore, if it goes on like this.

cm shouldve just re used old courses but refine the graphics and such to work with dirt 3. I didnt really notice the lack of ocations until i started reading the locations where im going, just dont pay attention to the name and just race, makes it seem like there aare alot more places

All I know is, Buggies in Aspen is getting repetitive and annoying, because the buggies are annoying to drive :grumpy:

Yeah i'm another one who is dissapointed with the lack of locations. I noticed it on my first season but thought in the second season etc more locations would be available, but obviously not...

I've finished my 4th season, most of the little triangles, i think they're called Pro Tour or something, and all the gymkhana events already and i haven't been on it for hours either to get to that stage, where as in DiRT 2 i was on it for hours to get somewhere decent. With all the talk about the new locations i was thinking the new locations aswell as most of the previous locations from DiRT 2 not just new locations.

Also i have to agree that some are a bit bland. Not as many puddles of water or crests etc as i imagined but look fantastic graphic wise. That's only the downside to the game in my opinion. Hopefully the DLC will bring a new location or two. :)

CM 3 through till 2005 were very good rally games I thought. They were just right - serious with rules and damage repair but a little humorous with tanks and fighter jets. I think they should redo those games

Agreed. I always enjoyed the Colin McRae series which was in line with what I loved about the 1st WRC game, but made it so much better.

I wonder if the american rallying influence has impacted the direction the series has taken? The last CM game I bought was GRID, which I still thoroughly enjoy.

Do any of the rest of you notice a tide shift in the way CM are developing? (the F1 series, their first person shooters, etc)

At least these buggies can actually be driven around corners with the throttle to the ground. They did a good job making them more forgiving and, as a result, more fun to drive.

I find the locations to be easier and less fun than DiRT 2 and especially DiRT1.

Yeah their could be more locations, but my biggest problem are occasional very short rally stages. I want something that takes multiple minutes, and by that I mean 5+ mins. like real rally, not 1:30's to 2:00 minute stages.

The reason behind the short stages is the fact that the limitations of the EGO Engine demand short stages.

There hare, however, quite a few long stages. Lankamaa in Finland springs to mind, as do many of the Tralblazer stages - Vaaler Climb, Leopard Rock and Lake Gratiatot, for instance.

I like the new stages, but also miss the stages from 2. Longer stages would be great, but I'd also be thrilled with longer events in different locations with different terrain to navigate. Nothing in the engine would limit that.

Maybe it is available in the world tour events, but I'd love a multi day, multi stage rally event. Start with 3 or 4 stages in one location, then move to the next and repeat for a championship. Running 9 or 12 three minute stages would be plenty of racing for me.

The World Tour rally event has four rallies: Finland, Kenya, Michigan and Norway. Each rally has five stages. They are treated as separate events, not a championship; the events of one rally will have no bearing on the next.
