SFGTP2 - Los Dos!

... I did, however, rule out Porsche Boxter, Toyota MRSpyder and Lotus Elise on the basis that they're also 2-seater convertibles, and I've already got one of them!!!

Isn't an Elise just as much of a Targa as your 911?

On an SFGTP2 related note though, I have PM'd again the drivers who're currently active in WRS, that're also local to here. There's 3 of them within 60 mile radius of here, but as yet none of them has posted in here. :indiff:
There's plenty of time yet! :)

Did you pm jmgyro and SHigSpeed? They are from Citrus Heights and Antelope, I'll shoot them a pm if you want :)

True, but the original intention wasn't to buy a Targa 911, just a regular Coupe, and definitely not a full convertible as it'd've given us no excuse to get out in the Miata anymore.
Besides which, the 911 is a 4 seater, everyone knows that*, ;) so it has much more room than an Elise, and is available much cheaper! Elises only went on sale here a couple of years ago, consequently second hand ones are still pretty pricey. The only viable Lotus I could afford was a 1977 Esprit Turbo, but it was for sale just outside Seattle, which'd've meant a 2000 mile round trip to collect it! :yuck:

* You just have to be very very small to get in the back seats! They fold down into a good sized parcel shelf though!

💡 I have a suggestion for you Smallhorses. ;)

If you get the people(at least 12) and equipment(at least 6 TV's w/PS2's and controllers), maybe you could have a Team Endurance race to cap off the upcoming and future SFGTP events.

I remember reading up on the Clio Endurance race in the UKGTP 7 Results thread some time ago, and I thought it sounded like an exciting race to have.:mischievous: You could have the race take place on the Infinieon Raceway Sportscar Course and have it scheduled for 50 Laps and each team would be driving the same racing car. A Clio Cup race car would probably do, but it's up to you as to what car and track to have it on.

Also one of the rules for the race should be the following:
  • All drivers on the team must complete at least 1/5th the race distance and no more than 3/5ths the race distance.
So what do you think? Does it sound like a good idea?:D

It's on my planning list, and will be possible as long as we have 8 or more drivers even on 4 stations. I've taken part in 2 of the legendary Clio Endurance races at UKGTPs, (UKGTP V & UKGTP VII) and try as I might I can't come up with a suitable replacement for the Clio.
(It's one of very few race cars that's suitably quick, but comes in a wide variety of colours to make knowing which team is which easier!)
I think Infineon may be too long a lap time and suck up too much event time though. Maybe the stock car course, but I'll have to see when I start testing ;)
50 laps is definitely a maximum for Arcade mode number of laps, and it'd be mandatory that driver changes occur at every pitstop, which are necessary with strong tyre wear turned on. 👍

Won't be for a while yet, like Deep Thought in the Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy, my PS2's circuits are irrevocably committed to a task at the moment, and will be for some time!
I've started running Sarthe I 24hrs again for 200 A-spec points! :scared:

lol, funny you mention the rear seat room, cuz it doesn't exist! like you said, excellent parcel shelf! hehe, i'm jealous! i originally wanted to invest in a 911 SC...but now my mind is set on the E92 335i sport! can't wait till my 21st bday ^_^ anywho, OFF TOPIC, if you'd like to get your car detailed, just let me know :sly:

That would have ment at least 2 engine re-builds on the way back as well.

I can't remember the last time I went to the custom avatar panel... :D

Why would you when your previous one was so legendary? - i hope it will return.

IIRC, there's the Subaru Impreza Super Touring Car and the Mitsubishi FTO Super Touring Car. Both of them have plenty of horses under the hood(more than the Clio, I believe), and I believe have enough different livery colors to cover a 6 driver race as well. I think those cars would probably do a lap of the Sports Car course in about the same time as the Clio would cover the Stock Car course. But it wouldn't be a bad idea to test those cars out anyways.;)

I'm in. Now I can tell my friends that I drove 750 miles to play video games :D. I might buy a new (flatscreen) computer monitor in the next couple of months, so I'll keep you posted if I have a screen to contribute.

If anyone wants to recommend some good hotels in the area, I'd appreciate it (PM me). NO OAKLAND!

Here's what I can bring:
1X PS2, fatty old-school version (2002 antique)
1X DFP, lightly used (i.e., still in mint condition)
1X crappy component cable
1X excellent S-Video cable
1X $6.99 folding chair (with classy cupholder)
(probably) 1X monitor >19 in.
1X Kylehnat: good for a few laughs, and a few beers
1X sore shoulder: someone remind me to stretch before I hit the road.

Nice one Kyle!! 👍 Look forward to meeting you in October, along with reacquainting myself with the SFGTP1ers and the UKGTPist, and not forgetting meeting Jerome
There are 4 hotels within walking distance of here, right in Emeryville.
Four Points Sheraton, Courtyard by Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn and a Woodfin Suites (probably quite pricey!)
There's also a few more on University Ave, in Berkeley which isn't too far away either.

2002 Antique eh? Wonder what that makes my 2001 model then!!!
As ceiling_fan rightly says you'll need a network adaptor, but I may be able to lay my hands on one of those for you. 👍

@ CAMikaze - Appreciate the suggestions, but the Impreza & FTO suffer from chronic 4WD style tyrewear that the Clio doesn't. I'd like to keep an enduro venue as secret as possible until the raceday, so that everyone gets thrown in at the deep end together and there can be no complaints of some drivers having more practise than others etc. 👍

I can probably dig up a network adapter. I have my people...

I'm a snob, so I'll probably pop for one of those. If possible, I'd like to stay at a place where the concierge will gladly cut my cigars for me and hand-wash my delicate garments.

OFF TOPIC, if you'd like to get your car detailed, just let me know :sly:

It's getting the Targa top re-covered at the moment, but I may well take you up on the detailing thing later on. How much & where? Do they do paintchip restoration, and/or dent removal too?

Nobody walks anywhere in California.

:P
Emeryville is very pedestrian / eco friendly, it's home to PIXAR as well! We have a free bus service too!
My wife walks to work everyday, so it's sort of ironic that our Miata was orignally bought to be her commuter car! Works out nicely though being as it doesn't get a daily beating, and keeps the miles down and the condition great! 👍

@ Kylehnat @ jump_ace definitely bring DFP wheels with you. Even if you don't use them yourselves it means there's going to be 6 complete setups, and therefore with more than 6 drivers rotating on and off, it means that anyone can sit anywhere and plug in either a wheel or a pad at any given time. This gives everyone the opportunity to start in different grid positions and use different monitors, If there's a perceived difference in size/picture quality, then everyone will suffer the same at some point in proceedings, making it all fair again!

As a person who has been going to Otakon since 1995, this has me wondering if any of the out-of-towners who are coming to take part in SFGTP2 are planning on rooming together at any of the hotels to cut down on the travel expenses. Just a thought.;)

I can imagine the reaction form the drivers. It's probably going to be the same as what happened at UKGTP7 for the Clio Endurance... :embarrassed:
Organizer: "The track is... Autumn Ring!:)"
Racers: *groans*:indiff::grumpy::guilty:
Organizer: "REVERSE!:mischievous::D"
Racers: "WHAAAAT?!!!:irked::yuck:🤬"
Appreciate you appreciating the suggestions, Smallhorses.:D

That has me wondering if there's a possibility of having a Seventh setup but only for the purposes of spectating the races for the people not involved in the racing. You won't need a steering wheel for the seventh setup, just a DS2 controller for the purpose of switching between cars to view.

Whichever track we go with, it'll be popular with some, and hated by others. It's a no-win situation really! I was at UKGTP VII, I personally had no problem with Autumn Ring Reverse. It's a nice technical circuit that gives a car & driver a good workout every lap.

A seventh setup is a possibility, but we may run out of space in the garage for such luxuries! It's also really only useful for recording the races onto DVD if anyone has a DVD-R which we could hook into it. I don't so I hadn't really thought about it. The preferred method of watching racing has always been to stand behind the drivers and watch their screens / shout encouragement / put them off with paper plates on forks, bouncy balls or foam darts!!! ;)

Although if anyone has a DVD-R that they can bring along, feel free! 👍

Here's an idea for capturing the 'moment' of SFGTP:Dos

Bring in a webcam and set it somewhere to where all of at least 'most of' the setup's are caught on film, setup an account over at BlogTV.com or Operator11.com and once the race starts, just turn the webcam on...then everyone who'd like to see how things are progressing, can just log into to site of choice and watch all the races...

Heck...could even setup a 'mic' and when someone isn't racing, that person or persons could do some 'color commentary' for the viewers... :-)

PS: If anyone is looking to ante up for a hotel room, let me know, we can probably get some good rates by sharing a room or something...as even though I live an hours drive from Nick, I don't really want to have to drive back and forth between my home and Nick's place both days.

Cut off my tongue.

 What, so no-one else gets to hear you driving descriptions?
Was hoping you'd provide us with a few examples (perhaps censored for GT Planet!) to spice up the SFGTP1 results thread!!!!

@ SimRaceDriver the webcam sounds like a good idea, but I'd have to rely on your IT skills, and of course itgirlxx's to pull something like that off! As far as hotels go, I'm afraid I can't offer you a bed Chez Smallhorses this time, as priority has to go to our long distance travellers that signed up first. Touring Mars & jump_ace (with the future Mrs. jump_ace) got the early reservations and sadly as California prices are space-prohibitive, there's no more room (except floor space,) sorry Kylehnat :guilty:

SimRaceDriver
....."color commentary".....
That'd be fun in a race like the Miata one at SFGTP1!
".....The silver Elise leads, and it's the white Miata slightly ahead of the White Miata, which is currently being pursued by the other White Miata....."

And like I said earlier, you should do the commentary, your British accent would give it credibility.

"And the car in front is exactly the same as the car behind - except totally different!"

SH:

No worries on the 'spare bed', as I was already assuming that accommodations would be given to the 'out-of-towner's'....if there's no cheap alternatives in the area, then driving back-and-forth will be in order...no big deal! ;-)

As for the live action TV...all that would entail is a webcam...(and a microphone)...as I'll already have one by then..(Hopefully)...I'll bring it and see what we can do!

Commentary will need to be provided by anyone with a "british accent" however..even if it's a fake one, which I can't do! LOL!

Does this mean the UKGTP8 commentary has to be in American NASCAR style?

I'm thinking maybe that guy from Yello's 'The Race' - "Welcome race fans!" or the duo from Pixars' "Cars". :D

there's no more room (except floor space,) sorry Kylehnat :guilty:
I'm offended! I guess this means you're not going to pay for my gas, either? ;)

I'll definitely be able to bring a monitor. I've got my eyes on a nice 22" Gateway LCD, and should be acquiring it on this or the next paycheck :D. I'll have to think about sound hookup, though. I've got an AV --> 1/8" adapter, but I'm not sure if any of my small devices has a line in and a headphone jack. I'll figure out something.

Can anyone come to these? My brother lives in SF with his girlfriend and i'd love to get away from school and hang out with him and come do some racing!
