SFGTP2 - Los Dos!

btw, forgot to mention i could bring a TV, table, an extra DS2, and a 50' CAT5 cable if need be.

Sweet! We'll take all of the above! Added to post #1!
Will you be driving over this time or BARTing again?

@ ceiling_fan, the Bravia is a 32" XBR2. Plenty large enough. If were trying to get 2 or 3 setups on one of those trestle tables, anything larger makes it difficult to get 2 of them side by side!

As far as the equipment goes, I'm trying to get a handle on which is the easiest way to get 6 full setups running. Closer to the time I'll reassess who needs to bring what, as it'd be easier for example, if jump_ace who is flying down can leave his TV behind, if we're going to have more than enough locally supplied ones. Also we'll probably only need 1 DS2 per PS2, things like that. As I say we'll wait until the event is imminent to make the decisions, just in case there's anything that pops up for anyone and people suddenly can't come. It is, however, much better to have too much than too little! :sly:

I'm now booked at the Woodfin. Looks posh :).

I suggest we have a few DS2 races. After firing up the game yesterday, I realized that I never really did get my DFP skills up to snuff :dopey:.

There's no requirement to use one controller or the other. 👍
Use what suits you best! ;) But we'd appreciate you bringing the wheel and the reason is explained below.

On SFGTP1 day 1 we had 3 DFPers and 1 DS2er.
On SFGTP2 day 2 we had 2 of each.
With 4 setups and only 4 racers, we never had to move from our seats.
(Although alrivers was slightly surprised to discover he couldn't steer in his first race on day 2, since he'd adopted juana b.'s setup for the day and the wheel had stayed plugged-in! A brief pause to unplug the wheel and suddenly he was directionally-enabled with the analogue sticks on his DS2!)

The reason I'd like 6 full setups is so that with people rotating on and off, you're never going to be guaranteed to get the same seat all the time. Consequently we need to have the capacity to accomodate a driver of either persuasion at each station. This also means everyone will start a race at all 6 grid positions sometime throughout the day. :)

As far as I know, SimRaceDriver, Smallhorses, DaveS1138 & juana b. are all dedicated wheelists!

Touring Mars, Kylehnat, alrivers, ceiling_fan & jump_ace are stick-grinders or button-mashers.

So we've a fairly even spread across 9 racers. 👍
If we have a mandatory wheel use race, it'll be a fun thing, like the no-holds barred Test Course race that Famine ran at UKGTP V.
Swapping between drivers during an enduro with wheel/DS2 is a little trickier, but I believe it has been done. You have to plug/unplug the wheel and allow it to calibrate during the pitstop/driver change.

I've also edited post #1 to include Danoff & Strop as maybes. Had PMs from both of them over the past few days expressing interest. 👍

I have no problem bringing the wheel. I bought it long after I had completed the game, and I ended up using it a lot less than I thought I would. It's tremendous fun to use the DFP, but I just never put in enough time to equal my DS2 abilities with it.

This wasn't any problem during the ukgtp7 enduro. I used a wheel and Roo used a pad. Switching over is just a matter of good timing & coordination.
The "issue" was that some drove auto and others manual. (Auto won out)

AMG.

If I recall correctly, Nick's TV is about 32inches...as it wasn't bigger then mine (32' as well)...but it might have been smaller too...

This looks like it's going to be one hella of a race weekend.

I have a 2nd webcam and headset, so as long as there is a PC and/or laptop around that can be used to install the necessary s/w to run the cam, then a live broadcasting of SFGTP2: Los Dos is def possible!

Cheers,

SRD

Yep. Changing from wheel to pad was easy - just disconnect the wheel and stick the pad in. Pad to wheel requires a little more readyness, but as soon as the computer takes over driving the car down the pitlane, take the pad out and put the wheel in. It'll finish calibrating before the car is off the jacks. You've got a good 20+ seconds to do the swap.

Auto's a pain to go back to, but if you're good enough you can adapt :D - when you press what is usually the gearchange buttons (either up or down), it'll hold the car in whatever gear you're in. A lifesaver on the 270 degree bend at Autumn Ring.

 AMG. & Roo!

I figured out of all the teams at UKGTP VII there must've been one that did the DFP/DS2 swapping thing!

As you say the auto / manual thing is more difficult to overcome, but hopefully we won't run into that issue as all of us seemed to be manual drivers at SFGTP1. 👍 Not sure about the new drivers for SFGTP2, though I'm fairly sure Touring Mars & jump_ace are manual drivers too.

Just like a driver swap at the real Le Mans :).

Exactly! Those guys usually remove the wheel to get in and out right? Just think of it as an added dimension of realism! :sly:

Anyone up for a mini-lan before then?

Once I've finished Sarthe I 24hrs (MkII!) of which there's 6 hours remaining, I could entertain the idea. Will be on vacation 8 - 23rd Sept though and will likely need tonnes of time after that to assemble some events for SFGTP2.
Let me know when & where you're thinking of though....👍

I feel sorry for your PS2, how long has it been on for? :scared:

That leaves one weekend then. I have virtually zero obligations this weekend, I don't know about you. I was thinking about a day's worth of racing or so. I was thinking it would be at your place (but I don't want to force anything on you!) because my setup is much easier to transport than yours!

You know it, manual or bust imo. I can't stand driving auto's, I feel like I have shackles on me or something, lol.

I think most manual-lovers prefer it because we're control-freaks :).

I must say that I'm very looking forward to this. I've not had much of a vacation in about 18 months. I think it's about time to cross state lines :D.

Only 12 days so far. It's a trooper though! :D

Post #4 in this thread shows how long it was on last time I did a 24hr race!!!

On another note, are you sure you guys want a Brit doing the commentary?
Are you lot familiar with Murray Walker? I've just attached a YOUTUBE of some of his finer moments of commentary genius, after I "Murrayed" myself into an error during the 18th hour of my latest 24hr Sarthe I attempt!

It's in the last post (currently!) on page 6 in here! Take a peek. Good for a giggle!

@ ceiling_fan & any of the other locals if you're interested...How does Monday (Labour Day! - with a U!!! :P) sound? Maybe a few more attempts at submitting some road car laps for Nurb' Open Day thread are in order. No Daihatsus though!!! ;)

When I cross state lines, it's usually for going to a anime convention in Baltimore. And that's a annual occurence for me!;) I'd love to come to Los Dos, but it would be logistically impossible for me at this point.:guilty: I hope I can come to a future SFGTP so I can not only get a chance to race against others in person, but get a idea of how things work. Reason for the latter is that I would like to have an event similar to this take place on the Eastern part of the US(maybe in the Philadelphia area or near where I live:D).

I usually leave my PS2 on for 2 days max. I can safely assume you do a lot of good maintenance on your PS2 unit Smallhorses.:) As for me I have the original large PS2 unit sans Network Adapter. I'm thinking of maybe purchasing the smaller PS2 for possible LAN racing in the future or a second unit to use in case my cousin comes to my house to play some games.:sly:

Just had a look at the Murray-isms clip you have for us. Pretty funny indeed. All it needs now is the ED theme from the Benny Hill show as good BGM.;):dopey: Any idea if there are more where they came from?

Heh. My laptop's uptime at the moment is 19 days, 7 hours and 24 minutes.

Labour day sounds good for me. :sly:

Yes.
No Daihatsus though!!! ;)

I don't think we would have time for that anyway... :dopey:

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: [/SARCASM] (to steal a -Diego- tag! :))
I've Hoover-ed, (no wait, I hate those ubiquitous marketing-isms :ill:) Dyson-ed (Damnit! ;)) er, I mean vacuumed the fan intake and the front vents about 3 times in the 6 years that I've owned this thing! (And at risk of "Murraying" the unit :scared:) I can safely say that although it's a 2001 brick model, with the network adaptor fitted, it's barely hiccupped at all. No DREs, except with MAXdrive mini-disc, and had been left on > 2weeks at a time no less than 5 times, and > 1 week more often than that while I've A-specced various enduros, and suddenly unexpectedly been sent away on business during a week leaving the system paused for days on end!!! :nervous:
I've never opened it. I clean it with a CD lens cleaning disc every once in a while, but have never had to get inside. To my mind, it's been a tremendously reliable piece of hardware. 👍👍👍

My old block PS2 had more dust than the Sahara has sand. I got it used in... '02 or '03.

On another note, are you sure you guys want a Brit doing the commentary?

You're the only person who knows the name of every turn on every track! I know about 2 Nurb' corner-names off the top of my head.

You had plenty of time to read and memorise the signs around the Nurb' when you were doing the Daihatsu Midget '63 laps! It wasn't like you were approaching them quickly or anything!!! :P

I had to concentrate on my drifting skillz though. It's very hard to come out of a drift cleanly when you only have one front wheel.

/\ He's got a point, lol. Oh and the fiance is a go, she has her ticket and flight booked with mine.

I'm looking forward to meeting the newbies at Los Dos. I may even try and drive on off-road course against Ceiling Fan.

Very nice! I'd love to get dirty.....with...you...???? wait-....Love to get dirty against yo-, no....hhmm..... jk's jk's. I haven't done a dirt lan yet, its not allowed at Bobkart's cause its only 2 player :ouch:

SH... I'm loving your new avatar!

If you make shirts with that printed on them, or better yet, on the back... considering the angle... let me know as I would love to buy one! 👍

I'm sure that can be arranged. I'm assuming you saw the shirts from the first thread? It'll be on the back of course (the bigger version in in post 1 of this thread) with username/avatar on the front left.

Actually, I'd planned on making shirts for the attendees again, personalised with GTplanet.net usernames & avatars (Avatars - current to about 2 weeks before event, so don't go changing them last minute, and expecting me to be able to keep up!!! :scared:) as well as one for Jordan and itgirlxx. Now that Digital-Nitrate wants one too, that's about 12 I've got to do. For 5 (8 if you count Jordan & itgirlxx's, oh and the extra one for alrivers after I :censored:ed up the first one!) shirts last time it wasn't a big deal, but this time round, the increased volume, the number of packs of iron-on transfers needed and all the printer ink required, I'll have to ask for a $5 donation each for them this time. Sorry. :guilty: I figure I'm going to wind up making about 15 shirts this time (allowing for 1 each, plus 1 🤬 up, since I'm not infulla.... infelll.... inflaba...., oh bugger it.... not always right! :P)
Please let me know your preferred sizes in advance, (SFGTP1ers, I still remember how big you are, so no worries, unless you've been crash-dieting or have been on the "Supersize Me" diet!!!) or if you'd like to opt out of the whole t-shirty thing.
(Most of the donations will likely end up in the prize fund anyway!)

It'll be on the back of course (the bigger version in in post 1 of this thread) with username/avatar on the front left.
I also have your super-hi-res humungous .png version, of the logo to use, and may include "Los Dos" or "Official "Dos"ser" lettering somewhere too.
