many cars in GT4 dont look exaclty the same as in real life.. windsheilds, roofs and more looks much different from reality on many cars i think. take the R34 Skyline GT-R for example, the windsheild looks much rounder in it's shape than in real life to me, and i think in real life the whole car looks a bit wider than in the game.

can someone maybe tell how PD modelled the cars? and maybe explain why or why not it can be improved into GT5?

anyway, I hope PD will change this to GT5!

Sorry, but I can't agree. GT4 has some of the most "spot-on" shapes in driving sims, only the best reach the same levels. There may be few cars that are not 100% there, but I can live with that. I don't see any necessity for improvement regarding this matter.

If you think GT4's models are bad (and they really aren't), you'll probably be very disappointed in GT5's or GTHD's models. With the high-resolution graphics of the PS3, little mistakes are going to be much more obvious.

Would you mind posting pics of an example of this? As far as I can tell, most of the cars are darn near perfect in terms of shape and styling.

I agree, there isn't anything wrong with GT4's car models. Are you using an imported copy of the game, or is your TV set displaying an aspect ratio the game doesn't work with?

lol.. there is difference! doesn't seems like you guys can realise it though..

don't you see any different on the windsheilds between GT4 and reality on the Volvo 240 Estate?

cause I do u know..

EDIT: i didn't start this thread for no reason.. if i say I can see a lot of differense between the cars in game and reality I dont lie.

Oh noes!! The slight differences between a digital game and the real world are excruciating!!!

Putte, the GT4 shot is obviously from far away, and the other wagon is right next to the camera. But if slight differences really bug you, I'd suggest you forget about video games entirely and just race in real life because they're all off slightly. ;)

If the subtleties of a windshield gasket bother you that much, I suggest you find something better to do with your time.

That's not the problem. There are so many things that need a workover in GT4, that the slightly off shape of some cars is the least of our problems.
And as others and I have mentioned before, GT4 is one of the closest to reality-looking games you can buy when it comes to car shapes. It might not be perfect in direct comparison to reality, but it's much better than the majority of other racing games.

The fact alone that you can take a picture from GT4, take one from real life and say "look, here, the game is not quite correct!" shows how close we are. With other games, you don't even get the idea of comparing it to the reality.

So, you expect 700+ cars to be absolutely perfect in GT4, and even more importantly perfect in GT5 also? Give PD a break - they already put masses of work into the game to make it how it is.

Not only are the cars very close, the real-world tracks are remarkably close, too, especially given the extreme amount of work involved.

A say no game is perfect, and so what its a little off, look at the thing you get in return. I would put realistic handeling higher on my list then the looks, or would you like to see so many cars who look absolutly perfect, that would mean by the time they finish we would have to wait 2 years for the release of GT5. I don't thing people want to wait that long.

Real life has the added advantage of having many more polygons than the car models in GT4 can manage.

the zonda looks a bit dodgy to me. and the headlights too

on a real zonda the headlights are as follows: obviously it's over dramatic

not great pics but:

<<<< ouer lights are slightly set back

<<<< healights ar level

First of all, that pic of the Zonda LM doesn't give a good angle to judge the positioning of the headlights, secondly the Zonda LM is a fictional model in the Zonda range.

okey.. I'm stupid just because i want GT5 to be perfect? the volvo 240 is very different from in real life.. not just the windsheild the whole car.. i know cause i got one my self.......

Nobody said you are stupid. But there are more important things for Polyphony to worry about when making GT5 than perfecting the shapes of the cars. Show that picture from GT4 to anybody that knows the older Volvos. I bet you that not a single one won't recognise that car. Can't be that off then, can it? :sly:

I mean what do you expect? It's a game, it's not real life. I've been playing racing games from the C64 to today, and I can tell you, GT4 is about as close as it gets for PS2 standards.

okey :dunce:

one more thing.. the strip that goes on the side of the body on the volvo 240 is chrome in game and black irl.. the rims (Virgo) was made for 240 Turbo between 1981-1985, in other words: WRONG rims in game..

EDIT: I saw on TV when they used a tool to scan a objekt and then load it into a computer.. the shape became exactly the same as in real life. maybe PD could use something like this to get 100% correct shapes to the cars in GT5, or what do you guys think??

Yeah okay, I think we got your point: the Volvo 240 is not exactly right in GT4.

Anything else you'd like to share with us?

this thread is fairly retarded. if there was something very noticeable, then i could see a point for the thread. Midnight Club III is worse, the cars are either too thin or too tall which makes the perspective all wrong. but gran turismo is probably the closest in both detail and perspective, so who cares if some trim is wrong or it has different wheels, or if the moldings are slightly different. its not like the whole body is screwed up and nobody could recognize it.

Not only are the cars very close, the real-world tracks are remarkably close, too, especially given the extreme amount of work involved.
And keep in mind that the VRam in the PS2 is pretty skimpy, and these tracks have vast areas to display. Even with the detailed cars and tracks in GT4, pop-up is almost nonexistent, which is truly incredible.

But even then, I'm sure Kaz would appologize for a station wagon being slightly off. Maybe they will revise the model in GT HD but I wouldn't count on it.

But lookit. GT5 isn't coming out for a while yet. The only thing we've seen of it are some closeups of an RX-7 and an Evo VIII, and those were astonishingly close. There were images of race cars in motion, but they looked quite accurate too. Don't fret too much over a game you haven't even seen yet, when what you have seen is spot on.

maybe there are some errors but otherwise it looks perfect to me

No, but you're the only one that cares it seems. You should be glad the 240 was in the game at all anyway. It's not exactly a racing car, is it? So, you should be happy with what you have, and not mock about what you don't have, which is precision to the millimetre in a game with over 700 cars.

At least it's not as bad as a handful of Genki's models...

The Genki model looks like a car designer's abstract vision of a "pig car," with 5-inch wheels. :scared:

Now look at that, PuTTe_TuTTe! (thanks to Wolfe! 👍)

That's what you get on other games. Still unhappy with your "not quite in shape"-windscreen? :sly:
