Well, we managed to get promotion last year from Coca Cola League 1 (formerly Division 2, formerly Division 3) to the Coca Cola Championship (formerly Division 1, formerly Division 2) by way of the play-offs, so I thought I'd keep track of our attempts to get back where we belong (the Premiership, formerly Division 1. DO keep up).

Game 1: A potentially tricky encounter, away at Stoke City's Britannia Stadium. Made slightly trickier by the fact that we're crap. It became slightly easier just 13 minutes in when Stoke defender Gerry Taggart was sent off for mistaking Leon Best for the ball, but it still finished 0-0.

Game 2: A potentially tricky encounter, home to fellow-promotees Hull City. Again, made all the tricker because we're still crap. We took the lead through Leon Best - first Wednesday goal of the campaign - but Nicky chuffing Barmby (few people know that's his full name) did what he did last season and scored past Lucas AGAIN. 1-1 at the end... To make matters worse, Sheffield U****d followed up a 4-1 home win against Leicester with a 2-1 away win at Burnley to top the table after 2 games.

You going to update this thread every Wednesday? :sly:

It's a great idea though... keeping track of your own club in thread form... unless you're a Celtic fan :indiff: The less said about our start to the season the better :ouch:

The 'Championship' is a tough place to be I reckon.... I think that all the Scottish Premier teams except the Old Firm would really struggle in this league - SW will do well to bridge the gap in quality between Div 1 and this league... :nervous:

Shoulda just made a championship thread. :grumpy:

I try to keep up with the goings on in the lower division, Crystal palace have already started making a pigs ear of this season after their usual short flirt with the prem.

I could, if you want. Although it'll be heavily skewed...

I like "I believe in Jesus" man, and he may well make a return - along with the Evil Straw Man.

But this one is to commemorate daan's promotion to Moderator. Check his profile to see the original picture. And, as my status now says, I'm stickin' it to the maan.

Come on them? Well, I suppose they are rather w**k...

Down with the pigs!

That AND the fact you've played the 13th and 15th placed teams from last season and we've played the 12th placed team and one of the teams promoted ahead of us.

Burnley are a tough side! Only 2nd time we've beat them there in 30 yrs.

You're forgetting Stoke only had 10 men for a fair part of that game and that you weren't much better against Hull last season.

Burnley are pony! The fact you've only beaten them twice at Turf Moor in 30 years is testament to your rubbishnessosity.

As we all know, playing against 10 men, especially against a side one league higher than you for the last two years, is often harder than playing against 11. And Hull beat us twice last year, so a draw is a good result.

We'll see what you do at Turf Moor then, shall we?

Excuses, excuses. And I was being kind to you by not mentioning the fact that you gave away a late penalty against Stoke, which they missed :(

I was being kind to you by not mentioning the fact that your current team is built around 4 relegated Wednesday players...

'Built around' is a bit extreme, but otherwise a fair point. Though it just goes to show how bad the rest of your side must have been...

We got relegated with it so... yeah... :D

Good to see Leigh Bromby's striking abilities are as good as ever... :D

Well THAT went well.

Kenwynne Jones, who we had on loan for 6 games last season (and scored 6 goals in the process) played against us today and scored the only goal of the game. 0-1.

Bugger.

So, do you think averaging 1/2 a point per game will be enough to keep you up, nevermind getting back to the Premiership! :P

At least my beloved, and unfairly relegated, Greens are doing a little better in getting back where they belong. 19pts from 7 games & Northwich Victoria are on top of the Conference North! Wooohoo! :D

Nope.

We're hit badly by injuries and... screw it. We're cack. But we don't care.

Right on cue, Wednesday win their first league game of the season. Against Leeds United. :D :D :D

Marvellous! Down with the White Dog****! Must be nice to put one over on your Yorkshire rivals! When's the big Sheffield derby game? That'll be one to behold again!

I think I'm almost happy for you... Takes points off Leeds who are near us and once you've won , it'll hurt even more when you continue to lose ;)

I almost can't wait for the traditional nickname-stealer's post-Christmas slump/injury crisis... :D

2-2 draw with Luton tonight, to follow-up the dismal 6 pointer with Millwall and the reasonable, if ultimately cack, West Ham cup tie.

Also our former sole-leading-scorer Adam Proudlock has been sacked for "disciplinary reasons".

Aaah. That's a good weekend. Win for Wednesday (despite a dubious swan dive), defeat for the Pigs and Warnock going bonkers.
