Shift 2 Unleashed PC Users

Autolog ID: straight6

Not sure if I'll do a lot of online racing in Shift 2, unless they fix the input lag (or whatever that causes driving more like piloting a boat).

Edit: I just found some nice cars in my garage like the Lamborghini Reventon cop car and Zonda Cinque Roadster. Probably imported from my previous NFS save games.

Is there any interest in a small PC race series?

I'd prefer a casual club-racing style series with spec or close to spec cars.

I'd like that, though I usually play this at random times. Usually from 11pm to 1am EST on the weekdays and late at night on the weekends.

Hi Guys,
Hope you all can advise as it is the first time I tried a PC game.. had been playing PS3 games only...I installed shift 2 in my laptop and it was glitchy and choppy. Almost unplayable. I was so disappointed as to buy a new laptop would be big investment...sigh. Can any bros. advise is my laptop really too slow to run shift 2? Tks a lot.
I have a Lenovo G230 laptop:
- Intel® Pentium® dual-core processor T3200 (2.0GHz, 1MB L2 Cache)
- Genuine Microsoft® Vista® Home Premium
- 3GB DDR2 SDRAM
- 250GB SATA HDD (5400rpm)
- Dual Layer Drive (DVD-RW)
- Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500

What resolution are you running? I'm running 1080 on a laptop connected to a big screen and rig but it's a 1.7gig i7, 8 gig ram, 2gig ati card. It runs smooth but if I turn on the AA it gets ever so slightly choppy at times.

Hi syntax thanks for your fast reply. I running 1280 by 768 my LCD default screen size I think n turn all effects to low still implayable. Could it be on board graphic card can't support the game no matter what? Wow your pc specs is so high compared to mine.

Not gonna happen on that laptop, the CPU and integrated GPU are very weak.

I suggest building a desktop PC; one that can play shift 2 should not cost more than $400.

Build a PC with a i5 or i7 quad core and a good cheap GPU: Nvidia 460/470 or ATI HD 6850 ou 6870 and you wont't have any trouble to play it

I really like the time attacks with your autolog friends time leaderboard, if they are close to your skills, it's really fun to try to beat their time...

Hi deftonesmx17 and Dude27..
Thanks so much for your advice. looks like i am convinced my outdated Lenovo G230 notebook can't play shift 2.. sigh.. really sad.. I must buy the ps3 shift 2 already but I read that pc have mods and only mods can make shift 2 a more playable game, hence i am reluctant to buy ps3 shift 2, fearing that i will hate the g27 ffb issue etc...Looks like no choice as I do not wish to build another PC....

While reading in another forum on the intense tweaks that pc users perform for shift 2 game.. i am really overwhelmed that such a game needs so much mods in order to be played well...I really salute those modders..which SMS should hire haha..Then I think back on console.. wow it really makes life so much simpler.. Cheers pals. enjoy the shift 2.

To be honest, I'm not using any mods yet and enjoy this game a lot. It really is great when you turn your settings and get used to the feel of it. The only problem, that even mods cant help as of yet, is the FFB bug, which will "kill" the FFB during the rolling start events (hot lap, eliminator, etc). This is my biggest problem with Shift2 now.

But yeah, if you want to play the game properly in full hd, then you'd have to get a new computer. No way around it. Unfortunately built-in laptop cards are not even good enough to beat a $30-$40 dollar desktop video card. Once and if you do build a good PC though, the game looks great and plays great, with the right mindset/settings.

I've got an E8500 Core 2 Duo with ATI 6870 & 4GB ram and it runs beautifully at 1650x1080, that's by no means an expensive setup.

BTW, add me to the list: Headsoup_Bob, location Australia.

Yep, that's a lot fun, but you guys are keepin me up too late trying to beat your times :)

Harhre79 in particular is pretty quick. Nice driving mate.

I'm really warming up to this game. Handling on cars like the S4, Z4M and M3 are pretty convincing. It's not perfect but heck, what is?

yes, sometimes, they are just too quick... :)

Myself, I'm trying to be quick on track I know best... but with some guys, they are just impossible to catch and most of the time I must admit defeat (even if I'm trying hard... ), it would be cool to be able to download their ghost to know where they are gaining these damned precious seconds on you... :)

Ok i bought this game on ps3, saw the difference for PC then got it for that. Its like night and day.

Anyway i have nobody on my autolog/speedwall and would like some friends!! haha

my PC EA account name is : cornishbrooksy1

Does anyone know why the Shift 2 installer does not get beyond "Installind DirectX" on my PC? It meets and exceeds the recommended System Requirements. I get no error, it just stays there.

UPDATE: For some reason on my 5th attempt it installed successfully. All I can think of is that my G25 was plugged in, somehow causing an issue.

Hey guys,

coming out of lurker mode since I'd really love to have some contacts in S2u, too. I'm still pretty new to the game - and sadly, all my current friends aren't into racing all that much. So - please add me to the list :)
