I found my copy of gran turismo 2 for ps1, its brand new even has the manuals, my dad bought it for me when i was a kid but i remember only playing arcade mode and for some reason never having interest in the simulation mode (i was like 9 years i old i think) and i hear a lot of people saying it was one of the better gran turismos. Ive been playing gran turismo 5 and wondering if it would feel too dated compared to the next gen version. It has a lot of interesting cars that arent in gt5 as well

definitely yes,its a great game.you'll enjoy it for sure.its the second best game in the series.gt4 being the best imo.gt4 should be next.i still play it.:)

Now that GT5 is out, it would be impossible for me. Graphics, physics, online... What's seen can't be unseen.

I prefer to keep good old memories from these games rather than replaying them.

But I wouldn't mind replaying Fallout 1-2 or X-com.

GT2 was awesome.

If you play your legitimately purchased disc on an emulator on your PC, you can upscale the graphics to HD. Textures still look horrible, but it has nice clean lines.

well you found it play it then
gt1 and gt2 you should play them if you found any of them
they are great games
you will see somethings are missing and you only can find it on gt2

Played it for years. If you can get past the fact that this game is over a decade old, it's one of the best racing games ever made.

GT2 is my favourite in the series. Graphics are awful by today's standards (weren't even that great by the standards of the day), but the gameplay is more fun than GT5, IMO, though GT5 has been getting better with updates. On top of that, GT2 had the best soundtrack by far.

Overall, I'd say:
GT4 > GT2 > GT5 > GT > GT3

I easily spent 1000s of hours on GT2. Great game.

Wrong forum, roylan101.
And yes, GT2 was one of the best in the series.

Not like the GT2 forum would have much responses. We complain too much about what is wrong with GT5 that we could use something else to talk about. This would be more like a GT2 and 5 comparison type thread.

If you wanna talk about something GRAN TURISMO RELATED, then why not in a forum that's still alive?

I been playing GT1 and 2 on my PSP, cant wait for the new PSP and putting GT3 and 4 on it if it's powerful enough. I just used my original copies and put them into the PSP memory stick.

Yes. With the corollary that you probably shouldn't until you get sick of GT5. Because GT2 does so many things so much better than GT5, playing GT2 will likely drive you away from GT5 that much faster if you start dumping serious time into it.

"I didn't think many people would respond to it" is not a valid reason to intentionally post a thread in the wrong place (not that I'm saying that is what the OP did). And, aside from GT5, the GT2 subforum is probably the most active of them all these days anyways.

Go for it. It's one hell of a game. Worst looking and worst physics to me, but the selection and immensity will draw you back.

how about play it if you want to? I mean really, I doubt we all care if you do or not. If you want to go for it, if not then dont. Its not really that hard of a choice. I'd hate to see you trying to decide to buy a car or not IRL lol.

I'd say the physics in GT2 are better than those in the original. The physics in the original game give cars far too much grip, making everything drive like it is on rails.

Maybe the nostalgic point give GT2 some credit but compared to GT5 it's not very good anymore... everything has improved since then and this is what makes the difference!

When compared specifically to GT5, GT2 does look like a very good game. Many of the main points of contention with GT5 were done better than any other game in the entire series in GT2. When compared to GT3 or GT4 is when GT2 starts to show its age.

Sorry? I was merely just putting my 2 cents in, ok!

Now was any of this truly necessary? Way to go on the totally irrelevant comparison as well.

To the OP: Absolutely. Although as pointed out by Toro, you'll definitely want to run GT5 ragged first because GT2 does a lot better, and gives you tons more options. And the soundtrack is awesome.

I have had 2 versions.

My first was V1.0 NTSC, it was buggy, most annoying bug as on the trial mountain endruo which was limited to 295HP, a vector LM racecar was it it which had 600HP.

Then i got V2.0 PAL, all bugs were gone it was much better but i wont say it was the second best on PS1 with GT1 taking first, GT4 taking first for best PS2 and second best for all so far.

In my opinion.

1:GT5
2:GT4
3:GT1
4:GT2
5:GT3

A way which should not be said on the forum as it is illegal.

Agreed. Understeer, as dreadful as it is for us, is not replicated enough in the original GT. I've always compared GT1 to slot cars I had as a kid.

To the OP (if you're still around) I'd say give it a try. You'll have to get past some really crappy graphics now and again, as well as pop-up, glitches, and other anomolies, however you spell it. But there's tons of cars and a few tracks included in GT2 that were missing in all other games so far. Cars like Venturis, Vectors, Renault Espace F1 supervan, Alfa 145 hatchback, Dodge Neon Coupes (later games have sedans), Chrysler Phaeton, Ford GT90....the list goes on and on.

I have fond memories of GT2 otherwise I wouldn't post in this forum as often as I do.

So far as memories go, for me its (favorite to non-favorite)...

GT2 > GT > GT4 > GT3: A-spec

In my opinion, GT2 is still the greatest Gran Turismo game. I have GT1, GT2, GT4 and GT5 and I like the second one the best. It may feel a bit old, but nothing beats the nostalgic feeling of it, not the mention the best track list in any racing game. There are also lots of awesome cars that are not featured in the newer games. GT5 comes close to being the best, but GT2 is still number one in my books.
