Should Polyphony team up with Evolution Studios?

Evolution Studios (developers of Sony's #DriveClub) has already discussed being rebuffed by Polyphony Digital.

And now that we have seen GT6's full lineup, alot of members are slightly disappointed.

We all know that demand for new cars is an extremely huge elephant in Polyphony's meeting room. Does anyone believe they will be able to keep up, seeing how isolationist PD is/has always been? Doesn't this seem to be an outdated business practice in a time when Forza's Turn 10 is being ripped to shreds for having such a small amount of cars? I am aware that #DriveClub and GT are two different kinds of games, but at the very least work on car models could be shared/divided up saving months of work.

I think that for GT7 at least, they should be more willing to take help when someone offers them a hand.

No. The language barrier would be a nightmare, not to mention the cultures and standards.

This post sums up why a collaboration is unlikely to go ahead. It's a shame though, a 'Gran Turismo Horizon' would be a hit on the PS4.

EDIT: Misread the first post, & said no. I thought it was being proposed that Evolution & PD team up to make games. If it's just a case of sharing core assets like car models, then yeah that would be a great idea.

If they wanted a game similar to Forza Horizon, yes?
I never implied that they should share game engines, just car models. GT5 and GT6 have a 6 month turn around for a car to be scanned, photographed, mapped, mic'd and built in game.

6 months for a last gen consoles car models. The amount of time required for a car in GT7 will be stratospheric,

How many cars in Drive Club?

I know : 50

That could mean 50 cars that Polyphony does not have to build models for.

To scan, photgraph, model, etc a bunch of cars PD can hire more people with their "vision" instead of join with E.S. :)

I don't think it would help.

PD opened a second office a couple of years ago and we're still not seeing any obvious benefits from that. The only thing I can think of is that GT6 arrived on time but the new car list is hardly impressive.

To share car models would be like GM and Ford getting together and allowing each other to use the Mustang and Camaro as a platform for each other to build cars on. Drive Club is a semi-competitor to PD and unless they get in bed together financially, it'll never happen.

not true at all...both are first party Sony studios...it would be very similar to Audi and Lamborghini sharing technologies...which they do...

You send the memo to Kaz telling him he has to work with Evolution Studios and see what happens...

my point was simply that its feasible...and frankly rather likely that tech would get shared between the studios on some level...there is A LOT of shared tech throughout Sony Worldwide Studios

Sorry but you do not seem to know what you are talking about with this. The car modelling time-frame dropped quite some while ago to around two months of man hours per car and PS4 coding will make the process easier.

Anyway, in answer to this repeat question from a thread a few months ago - narp.

I think that is a GOOD idea , Evo would make the DC open world game and PD the GT part ;) Sharing car models, textures, sounds, would be a big help for both sides!

They only opened a second office due to safety concerns.

I see no reason for them to at least share car assets. Handling models, environments, game engines and et cetera would be bespoke, but car models take a huge amount of time. Why double the amount of work necessary?

Why should Polyphony model a Maserati Gran Turismo for GT7 when Evolution Studios has already created a highly detailed model (that could at the very least serve as a basis for PD to add features to).

All PD has to do is put aside its misplaced pride and ask. Saving them time.

I don't understand how asking for collaboration for quicker project turn around constitutes "whining".

That is awfully rude. And two teams trading ideas is never a bad thing. The language barrier is not that much of an issue since PD works with Germans, SCEA and French all the time. Also multiple teams outside of Japan would allow other aspects of car culture to make its way towards PD. For example: The Australians still feel rather ignored on their front. The Brits haven't gotten much face time this time around either and a great many of the cars they consider to be classic aspects of their car culture are no where to be seen.

A wider array of people trading car models (at the very least) is in no way a negative.

What Polyphony need to do is team up with/hire some dedicated audio technicians.

Just saying.:sly:

Seriously though, it would breathe new life into GT.
