Should the money/credit system be done away with....

Well you had to do forwards 2 laps, then reverse 2 laps. One of the biggest problems in GT4 was that you could repeatedly get a price car by re-entering single races. Not as bad as GT2 was, but it was still quite bad. On GT3 if there was a unique car you won from a single race event, and you sold it, bye bye, you could never get it again (I'll use the Zonda race car as an example again there).

This was something else I disagree with - once you've won a unique car - I think it should be available for purchase in the garages...

"Missables" in RPGs = Fail.

I agree with that, thats what i want. I just don't want to be able to win it again by doing the same set of races.

managing the money is the best part of the game.
gran turismo gets a bit boring when I can just get a new car and a bunch of upgrades for it.

I think money should be a little tighter somehow. maybe stop giving away cars.

Yeah - apologies - I only disagreed with part of your post... winning the same car for beating the same race was pretty lame in GT4...

Especially if you could just send Bob round in a 1/3 of the time!

Shame you couldn't send Bob on any rally events  Easy money, 250k for watching 2-4 minutes of racing.

I agree with Reaperman, money should be tigher, especially later in the game. I find at the beginning it doesn't really need changing, you have to do the sunday cup 2-3 times before you can afford a better car (or you could go for tune ups and waste your money, i never tune my first car).

I'm playing GT3 at the moment, and i have around 900k, and i'm only 23% complete. I have a Toyota GT1 aswell, its ridiculously easy

I want horsepower restrictions to make a comeback, and maybe even minimum weight restrictions to stop people entering Elises and Ariel Atoms into <150bhp events. That would solve some of the problem with too much cash.

(The ariel atom is not confirmed, i'm just using it as an example of a lightweight car)

My attitude to GT is that I play Arcade Mode to drive cars I'll never own IRL. Like in sims such as LFS, all the cars should be available from the start to drive.

GT/story mode should be separate and kept to the original formula.

I enjoy earning credits to buy new vehicles or upgrading vehicles I own so I don't want anything to change with the credit system.

Perhaps we'll have to use some of our credits to repair our damaged vehicles??? Hmmm, I wonder how much it would cost to repair a $600K Ferrari Enzo? ;)

$600 Enzo... yaaaaaas
The TT system worked for TT, I would not like it in GT though. Having to be cautious with your cash at the start of the game is one of the best bits.

In my opinion the current progression system is pretty bad, however giving away cars for free would not solve anything here.*
The reason I used to be a fan of NFS series was because of their excellent progression system. Currency was present in the game but you couldn't just buy any car you wanted regardless of how much money you had. Cars were unlocked gradually by winning special (extra difficult) races. Slowly one by one, you unlocked the whole selection of cars. This process was so satisfying, it kept me playing the game for a long time. Sadly, this gradual progression was completely absent from gt5p. With exception of really high-end exclusive cars, any car in the game could be obtained in less than an hour. In the behinning of the game I was forced to choose a crappy car but as soon as I realized there was nothing stopping me from buying the car I really wanted, I played a few more races to save up some money and got myself an Audi R8. And although there were a few more cars i wanted to get, I felt like I have beaten the game. There was nothing left to keep me playing.
I really hope it changes in GT5. **

Well GT5 Prologue is not really what we would call a gran turismo game. The money you earn in GT5P is just so you can try out all the cars. In Previous GT games the beginning is really slow, you buy your first car with about 10k, and the races at the start only bag you around 500 each, and it is very difficult to beat events other than the sunday cup with your starting car. usually it requires a little bit of tuning.

See how he gets beat on that second race despite tuning his car?

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no.

Haven't you heard the backlash of people mad that GTPSP is nothing like other GT games?
The reason for this is because you don't have ANY feeling of ownership whatsoever. When you saved up all your cash for that one car you really wanted, when you finally bought it was one of the best feelings in the entire game and you want to take that away?! I could slap you just for thinking of this.

In fact when I read one of Kaz's latest interviews he said the was thinking about game progression and mentioned how GT4 was very slow and they were thinking about making it faster (or something along those lines) and I got really mad reading that.
The slow pace is the very thing which keeps fans playing for YEARS. Does Kaz really want a game people will get bored with after having 1trillion credits and no desire to keep working towards a goal? GT4 is by far my favorite racing game of all time, and that has nothing to do with physics or the graphics. It is because it puts you on a journey, and gives you a real sense of "moving up the racing ladder" You really had to work for everything you got and that is exactly what made the game so enjoyable.

It isn't the place your going it's the journey to get there.

Yeah, but Prologue is really just a glorified demo.

Gran Turismo does have a progression system: it's called racing licences. When you first get in the game, it's easy to get all the licences at once, but I imagine a proper play-through would involve doing the B Licence, then doing all the corresponding races. And the you get the A Licence and do the A races. Then IB with IB races and the IA-level licence and events.

The problem with Gran Turismo 4 was that if you knew what you were doing, you could get a million credits within about ninety minutes of starting over (get the A Licence, then win the two-lap Costa di Amalfi events five times to get the Toyota RSC Rally Raid). I hope there's nothing like that in GT5.

The credit system is the best system for collecting cars in a race game, BUT it was balanced totally wrong in GT4.

It wasn't fun to drive the DTM-series about 2.589,4 times for purchasing the cars I wanted.

I really hope, PD will raise the price money for all races, as they did in GT5:Prologue.

Well IRL there's no one really stopping you from buying a $200k car if you have $200k.

The GTPSP unlockable thing is just to make it "not that easy" to cop all teh cars, but it's not GT5 material if you ask me.

No, the actual prize money in GT4 was fine. GT5P, you can have just about every car within a couple of weeks of play, especially if you spam the F40 1 lap wonder race on suzuka.

If the prize cars on GT4 were more reasonably priced, then the game would have been better.

Credits are the only way to go because their denominations don't interfere with real-world monies (Pound, dollar, Yen, etc). Though the prices in credits are often similar to real-world translations, using credits eliminates PD from being hounded by Lamborghini complaining that the Murciélago in GT costs XXX USD when in reality it costs XX USD.

Question in your title? Create a poll please

And I also want the credit system to stay. Why does everyone want to slim down GT?

I've seen topics about: do you still want the arcade mode, do you still want oil refresh, do you still want the credit system?
Yes. Yes. Yes! Ofcourse I do.

I think all the previous GT games have had the monetary system just fine..could have real units of money in though. Wont be hard to code in a typical exchange rate and have the UK version of the game work in pounds, the US in dollars and so on

NO it should stay but what i would like to see is Sponsors affecting your credits.

after a few good races you could get deals with sponsors and earn more credits after races depending on your position. A spec points could have a role here (i.e the more A spec points you have, bigger and better sponsors would wanna check you out).

+ 1 👍

Due to the GFC, all players in GT5 should start with Cr. 1 and the message "at least your better off that General Motors!"

Seriously, keep the credits system.
