Should we expect a visual downgrade ?

I don't know if many of you have already played GT4 prologue since it was not released in NA et barely sold in Asia but if you compare it with GT4 in term of visuals you quickly conclude that GT4 is a step below .

Don't get we wrong GT4 was good looking but if you want my honnest opinion it doesn't match GT4P's graphics level

With all the features we are expecting for GT5 do you think it will still keep up with 16 cars on screens and that amount of details ?

I know GT5p has been out for almost two years and yet I cannot help myself being doubtful.

GT4: Prologue was indeed visually better than GT4, but only marginally. I can't be quite sure if there will be any visual difference between GT5: Prologue and GT5, but if so I would expect the difference to be quite small and almost un-noticeable this time around too.

Haven't played GT4P but I can hardly believe that GT4 is less good-looking. Look at that car shadow in the first picture.

GT4 had indeed some graphicals enhancements over Prologue but it was mainly on the tracks details and minors details like shadows but that's about it.

The differences between GT4: Prologue and GT4 were mainly small details off-track. Such as New York, in GT4: Prologue the billboards, LED news tickers, etc. off track were all readable. In GT4 these billboards and such became big blobs of colour or shapes which somewhat resemble letters. I don't think I would have ever noticed if Moglet (?) made a thread about it here on GTPlanet some time ago now.

GT4 came out not very long after GT4P so perhaps they didn't have the time to fully optimise it. GT5 has been in development for a long time after GT5P's launch so I expect it to be an improvement over GT5P.

I'm not expecting a downgrade, just possibly not much of an upgrade, since I guess they will have optimised to ensure we can have 16 cars on all circuits at all times, standing starts etc.. if they do all that and fix any minor niggles with GT5p's graphics, all will be well.!

I wouldn't expect a drop in the visuals for the game; I anticipate the graphics will get better. KY said that the development team is learning about memory management from their production of GT Portable, so I would expect they know what their doing.

It was the surroundings in GT4 that were downgraded from GT4P...I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same for GT5 to allow more memory for damage and weather, etc.

Yes I noticed that in GT4 those billboards were blurry, but haven't given it any further thought. Moglet is a great GT4 PM photographer, so he has noticed it definately I guess. But he must have GT4P then.

Anyways, GT5P looks great, and the PS3 can handle more, I think. But I know what you mean that you're worried. It looks so great that it looks like it's at the top of it's performance, and has no more room for other things like weather and maybe daytime-nighttime stuff. And livery editors. I don't know either, but I hope ofcourse it will stay like this because it just looks fantastic.👍

If your expecting the game to look like it does in photomode screen shots then forget it, there is always a drop in quality between what you seen when actually playing the game and jazzed up marketing screen shots.

just compare promotional screens of GT5p to what it looks like in-game, one looks almost photo realistic the other dosnt.......nuff said

me too

Not only tracks were downgraded in GT4 compared to GT4:P (only exception was Fuji, which in fact looks better in full GT4).
In full GT4 every car has got 2 models. Worse one, used in races and better one in garage and photo mode. In Prologue, there was only one model (the better one). Only rims were low-res during race.
I think it was caused by the 3D people models (in Prologue they were 2D) and maybe pit-lane crew.

I could imagine they had to downgrade GT4s texture qualities because of disc size limitations. I mean the DVD9 was full as far as i know.

Shouldnt be a problem on BD.

It wasn's full. I checked it on my PC... I think it was ~5.6GB (it was long time ago so I'm not sure... but It was between 5 and 6GB).

Anyway.. I think full GT5 will look a little better than Prologue. I hope they will fix shadow artifacts.

I do not anticipate a downgrade in trackside visuals but I would welcome some reduction in visual quality if it improved frame rates / screen tearing during replays. Some things in the background do not need to be super high res. I hope PD can find the right balance during optimization.

GT4 was the second GT game on PS2, GT5P is not even the first GT on PS3.. a lot of room to improvement.

well, i expect gt5 look much better (noticably better) than gt5 prologue, PD had time ti imporve graphics, so if dont get it there is no excuse for them...

It wasent a problem of space, the GT4 DVD9 wasent full, the problem was the framerate, GT4p suffered a bit here and there, the problem is gone with GT4 because they reduce some textures a bit.

Remember that you don not mix pictures from european SD GT4 to superior "HD" GT4 in america. We did not get the version which outputs 1080i :(

I think both european and american versions of gt4 had 1080i not during gameplay though but during replays. So all replays in gt4 in 1080i in european version for sure (i have one)

-> I could only hope that this intrumentation should be carried over into GT5:

^ Honestly, I can't see much of a difference between GT4P and GT4. But the quality between the GT demo series and GT4P are a little bit better than the GT4 itself.

It is less good looking, see the thread link below..

Actually it was me,

I made the comparison thread about 4 years ago. The detail change is instantly noticeable. Heres the link with the comparison pics.

As for GT5 I dont think there will be a downgrade because this time disk space is not an issue.

Robin.

If anything it will surely upgrade, just look at the GT5 trailer for proof.
