Pre-order: 17/September/2020
Pick-up: 19/August/2021

11 months and 2 days waiting.

Didn't have time yesterday to set it up but tonight I'll finally do it!

That’s some patience you have there.

I picked up some masking tape today. Recently I’ve been buying cheap, local made products for a DIY art project. Nothing worth posting about but hopefully once the project comes together I can post about it elsewhere.

Comics. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is the stand out comic in this group.

Music. Everything here came from Sonic Boom Records. The cassettes are made by the founder of the K Recs label out of Olympia. Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes, a Curtis Mayfield set of his first five solo albums, and a couple of Sub Pop pins.

Tickets to two upcoming The Mads livestreams. The Brain Eaters is new, Glen or Glenda is a rebroadcast of their first livestream that I missed a year ago.

And two new streaming subscriptions: Motor Trend TV for the 24 Hours of Le Mans airing tomorrow and Motor Mythbusters, and HBO Max for all the DC Universe shows that have migrated there.

An M1 Air and Airpod Pros.. I hope this laptop lasts at least 7 years. The Airpods... well, I figured why not since I got a higher ed discount.

It's my first Macbook, so it'll be interesting to see what good and stupid stuff Apple does with their system architecture compared to Windows. Also not excited for BS adapters and dongles..

My dev machine for work is a Macbook. First thing I bought for it was this megadongle:

You'll definitely want a good dongle. The upside is that you get to say dongle.
That thing runs $70 :grumpy: - I bought a simple singular USB adapter. If there's one thing I don't like about Apple is that their products are so pricey. How is the for you in the workplace? I'll be using it for design work.

Yeah it wasn't cheap, but the dongle my employer provided only had a single HDMI output on it and just a couple USB ports otherwise. I keep that one in my travel backpack. Still cheaper than what Apple would charge for a similarly equipped dongle though.

As for the computer, the last time I had used a Mac was probably in a school computer lab a very long time ago, but I spend most of my time in IntelliJ or the terminal so it's just another Unix machine to me. The one I was issued is a 2019 model with an i7 and 32GB ram. No complaints from me, just took a little getting used to some UI things in the OS at first.

Also, I grabbed Logitech MX Keys and MX Master 3 keyboard and mouse for use at my desk. Very nice as bluetooth peripherals go.

I went back and forth for a long time before deciding to buy a MX Master 3. I regret not doing it earlier. It is a great production mouse. Instead of the MX Keys, I bought a K380 around the same time as the MX Master 3. I prefer the smaller layout of the K380; the 60% layout is more comfortable. I also picked up a Microsoft Wireless Number Pad in case I really needed a ten key; I expected to use it much more than I have.

Yeah, this mouse really is exceptional for productivity. The shape is perfect for me and kind of splits the difference between mice that are too flat and a full vertical ergonomic mouse with the angle it keeps your hand. The logitech software can do some really neat stuff if you are connected to multiple computers, and the sensor in this thing can track like a champ on ANY surface.

100GB of storage for Google apps. Yearly price is dirt cheap and it was easier than downloading everything to a hard drive and wiping the cloud to make space.

Received this today! :dopey: Stumbled upon a post about a game called Hot Wheels Rally a few weeks ago while searching for something and me being a long-time Hot Wheels collector and learning of its obscurity, I was immediately fascinated with it. As I read more, I learned it was released with a mouse intended to be used for the game. So I looked it up and found this one new in the box, and apart from the glue coming loose on one of the flaps, it was unopened. So I bought it since I was pretty anxious to learn more about this obscure game and I think it was the only new one on eBay too.

And here it is out of the box. The mouse is WAY bigger than I expected! I have large adult-sized hands and it fits my hand very well, and it's supposed to be for kids?! 🤔

And with 2 AA's, it works! :D The mouse has a switch on the back to turn the lights on. I imagine the sounds and engine mentioned on the box will play once I play the game.

Unfortunately, my computer does not have a com port for the mouse and it has a stroke attempting to run the game, but I knew about all this before I even bought it. Eventually, I am going to buy an adapter so I can use the mouse and when I get a new PC, I am going to set up a VM so I can play this game and some others that refuse to cooperate for me now.

Theirs very little information about this game on the internet, not even a Youtube video on it, but I do know it can run with the right setup. Knowing how little is known about this and how I have it in my possession has me feeling pretty ambitous to document some things about it.

You mean the Google One plan, which is storage shared across Google Photos, Drive and Gmail?

If so, I think I might need to do the same. Since photos and videos uploaded to Photos recently started counting towards storage, I've been struggling with space as well.

Google Drive is handy for a lot of stuff and I live on Google Apps at the moment, but as a back up solution for photos it'd need to be the 2TB plan, which at £79.99 a year makes less sense compared to HDD's. I pay for Flickr Pro which is unlimited space, so I can use that as off-site back up also, but haven't got round to it, it tends to just get a tiny fraction of the better(ish) stuff.

I also seem to recall a colleague having a problem with Google Photos resizing or compressing images that were supposed to be uploaded to Google Drive... but that could have been user error.

Yeah. That’s it.

I had years worth of work on a school Drive account and when I left I took what I needed and it brought me close to the limit.
And because Photos automatically saves any from the gallery on my mobile, after a short time I was over the limit.

100GB is plenty for my needs and was only $20/£15 for a year plus a free month trial, so I haven’t even been billed for it yet.

The alternative, as I mentioned, is to download everything zipped to an external drive. Ain’t nobody got time fo that.

The advantage of using Photos for me is that it is then so easy to search for things (by time, location, color, brand, etc.). It works really well in that regard. It has saved my ass a couple of times.
It's also perfect for family stuff, for remembering places you've been, bringing back memories, etc.
Then, using it for sharing this stuff is also a breeze.

That's why I might invest in this vs. other services. More for convenience than anything else.
In fact, I still backup photos from the phone to a HDD (usually only once, when I'm about to change phones).

And yes, Google Photos on its "Storage Saver" mode (previously named "High Quality", which was the free version) will compress media. A lot. It looks awful in anything other than a smartphone screen.
But it shouldn't do that in the Original Quality setting (or for Drive).

Unlimited is kind of nice. Glad I'm not paying for it, though!
Unlimited at work is useful, however, I found that anything created on a work account, once deactivated, isn’t downloadable, even when shared with full edit permissions. I found this out the hard way when I was unable to get certain personal project folders that had been created on the work account and was required to sign in to a deactivated account.
It is still useable, just not available for direct download.

Edit: I’ve just seen the extortionate prices for iCloud storage. What a joke.

I considered getting the Miata once, until I tested it at the car dealership and realized I don't even fit in the car! :boggled: Which really sucks, I really liked it, especially how low it is.
My wife considered on once… until we went to Mazda and got the price… for which we could have had an M3 Competition. Both were beyond our reasonable budget.

Been a while since I posted anything music-related here! Got this the same day I got that Hot Wheels Mouse, but been forgetting to post it. Been a fan of Keith Anderson since "Pickin' Wildflowers" came out and have grown up to that, XXL (albeit not much) and "Every time I hear your name". Although I have known about "Every time I hear your name" since it came out, this song suddenly grew on me and became somehow highly relevant to me out of nowhere back in May. I came close to buying the song on iTunes, but then I noticed someone had the CD on eBay for about $3. So I got this one because I knew it would cost less for me to buy this CD than it would to buy the 3 songs I just mentioned on iTunes, not to mention, I'd get much more for it! Also, I like Keith Anderson as an artist and I really feel like I haven't paid enough attention to his music over the years despite liking him so much, so I felt it was time that finally changed.

CD is in good shape and I have already listened to some of it and it seems good! Going to listen to the rest later. It's great to revisit one I haven't looked at much over the years and one I feel that doesn't get enough appreciation.
