My adulting spree continues, after the sofa yesterday I've since bought a Vodafone broadband contract, installed a washer/drier and assembled a king size bed, the latter has an Eve hybrid memory foam/pocket spring mattress which was insanely heavy, naturally when I unrolled it it was both upside down and the wrong way up... No photos because it's dark and I'm currently in said bed. Very comfortable, thankfully!

Latest purchase, though? Car insurance. Half the price of what I paid last year, but with a much lower compulsory excess. Thrilling, right? I keep looking at Lego and games but then I remember I need a wardrobe, desk and legs for the Kallax units I bought.

Canon RF 100-400mm USM lens and a knock-off lens hood. Bokeh is very nice at 4-5 feet away, and can substitute as a pseudo-macro lens. Limited to f/5.6 at the wide end, and f/8 towards 270-400mm so not great for that without a lot of patience.

But geez, $2500 for the f/4L version, versus $600 for this and I'm not regretting the purchase. Besides, I can't imagine traveling with anything heavier unless it was my full-time job.

The new tool trolley is for all of my cleaning products etc. The light stand is so I can see what I'm doing with my cleaning products, and the pump is so I can hopefully get the tyres on the GT-P (the black one) closer to storage pressures as my old 12v pump (on the bottom shelf of the cart between the cars) could barely get them to operating pressure before.

Now to start cleaning all the hard to get to spots on a car that's been sitting for 10 years (????) in less than ideal conditions for the last few. It took me ages just to de-spider (mainly red backs and black house spiders) and de-cobweb it, but at least I shouldn't run in to any nasties from here on in.

The latest cars added to my Ebbro scale 1/43 collection. I felt daring and went for 3 JGTC Skylines. I got these along with the other 2 on plazajapan. I think I'm nearly done with the 1998 R33 JGTC set.

Anyway, here's the pictures. The 1998 Calsonic R33, Zexel R33, and Autobacs R33.

To note: I had these for over a week already, I just forgot to share pictures of them. I have 3 more cars coming in the mail in a couple of weeks, but I bought them elsewhere. We'll see how that goes as I tried a new website for ordering those.

Just spent $504 at the grocery store... no pics. LOL!! 😂
That's how much we might spend at the store if we just moved into a new home.

Even the Friday craze before the coronavirus shutdowns was about $350.

I picked the white one cause I have a white desk, but they stick out like a sore thumb on everything on top of the desk now :dunce:

Also bought a 100 pack of zipties cause I had $10 free Prime credit, only for it to not apply - but it worked on the USB Hub, so now I have 200 spare zipties

Billiard balls :)
Been years since i've played actual billiards. I had a 6ft table when i was a kid. I think out of pool, snooker and billiards, billiards was my favourite to play against my dad. It's been that long since i played i don't even remember the rules.

Me too. It's actually excellent practice for snooker as the red always goes back on the black spot, so you get a lot of practice for blacks from the spot.

From what I remember, the rules are very simple, but basically the only scores are:

  • Pot a white / go in-off a white - 2 points
  • Pot a red / go in-off a red - 3 points
  • Cannon (hit both the red and your opponent's cue ball) - 2 points
  • Foul - 1 point

If you pot your own white (go in-off), you take your ball back and play from the D to continue your break. If you pot your opponent's cue ball, however, it stays off the table until the end of your break (so it's ill-advised to pot it...). You score all combinations of anything you do in a shot, so if you pot a red and go in-off your opponent's white, you'd score 7 points (3 for the red, 2 for the cannon, and 2 for in-off a white).

Those balls of yours look big (although oddly there's three of them ;) ) I assume you're using them on the full-size snooker table?

Why thank you.

Yes, they're hopefully the same size as regulation 12x6 snooker balls. I haven't actually asked if we are allowed to bring our own balls, but I don't see why not.

I also used to play on a 6x3, and I'm sorely tempted to buy one for my flat, even though playing on a 6x3 really doesn't help you much when it comes to playing on a 12x6...

I think it depends on the quality of the 6x3 table. Mine was a wood-bed and the balls were smaller and quite light. My cousins had an old slate-bed 6x3 down in their cellar, which although quite tatty with some rips in the cloth, played much more like a small 12x6 table. The cloth was much finer and the balls, although smaller than full-size ones were quite heavy and the spring back from the cushions was much more big-table like, it wasn't really a different playing experience coming from that to a full club table as it was from mine. The speed of the cloth and bounce from the cushions with the momentum of the heavy balls is a bigger leap then the actual size difference from a 6x3 in my experience.

The red can be potted twice off the black spot, then it goes up to the blue spot, when potted off the blue spot it goes back to the black spot and the pattern repeats. If the black/blue spot is covered by the opponent's ball then the red goes on the pink spot.

Foul or miss is 2 points away.

I think this covers everything. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_billiards

I play a fair bit of English billiards, let me know if you have any queries.

Mildly fun fact: The small black dot on that set is historical from when the balls used to be ivory and that is where the nerve was.

That's really useful to know, thanks!

One rule my Dad and I used to play was that you could only play down the table from a break-off from the D - is that right?

Latest item purchased for my home bar upgrade arrived this morning. It's a shame the picture I took of it doesn't do it justice and it's size is hard to judge (140 x 55cm or 55 x 21 inch).

Edited to add a better picture:

There's others in this series but I wanted to just get one to see what they're like in person before committing to more. As I'm extremely happy with this one I think we may be getting this one, and this one too to pretty much completely fill the wall (along with the big screen tv and soon to be arriving new Foo Fighters pinball machine) to an acceptable level without over doing it.

Yes, if you're in hand from the D you have to play down the table/beyond the baulk line, a common shot if someone is "double baulked" is to play off a side cushion with a lot of side.

If you get a cannon from a pot off the black spot it resets the count on how many times you can pot off the spot.

This British open final from last year starts off with a good break:

A few digital goodies bought over the weekend

Last Friday was Bandcamp Friday (100% of all sales go directly to the artists) so I picked up Chillhop Essentials Winter 2016, and Chillhop Beat Tapes: Allem Iversom x little blue.

I purchased a ticket to the livestream of Teenage Zombies by The Mads. That’s Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame. The ticket includes a download of the show. This is their 35th livestream. I own them all. I never miss them.

Finally I just got the latest filters for Hipstamatic: the Trivandrum HipstaPak. This is the one photo app I use exclusively. I’ll probably drop a photo or two taken with this pack in the amateur photo thread in a week or two.

Some really cool Tokyo Xtreme Racer inspired stickers I ordered off eBay plus was able to find a cheap copy of NFS Underground 2 for PC for almost $50 since almost everyone were selling the pc version of this game for over $100. 😊
