Last Friday was Bandcamp Friday, the one day a month that 100% of sales go to the artist, with Bandcamp taking no cut. So I picked up a couple of Chillhop releases.

My favorite artist launched a Bandcamp campaign to press her latest album on vinyl. It reached it’s goal in 45 minutes. I don’t even have a record player, but this is the first physical release from her so I had to get it. Probably gonna frame it.
After the success of this vinyl campaign, Vylet Pony started a new one for her album “Cutiemarks (And The Things That Bind Us)”. This album came out in 2021. It was her first album that took her from a super niche artist to a slightly not as niche but still really niche artist.

The campaign reached its goal in 18 minutes this time.

I got the NTSC-J version of GT4 in the mail yesterday. The outer paper sleeve is pretty yellowed, but I suppose that's expected to happen to a 20-year-old bright white paper/cardboard box.

And the current state of the Gran Turismo portion of my game collection (pardon the glare and random Shinobi GBA cart):

At some point I'd love to get my hands on a physical copy of Gran Turismo HD, however given its price point, that's a lower-priority item currently.

New Comic Book Day. Not so many this week.I don’t normally read Spider-Man comics, but this issue contains the death of one of my favorite characters.

BeamNG.Drive and GTA Online. I don’t have a PC or laptop, so I got an account with geforcenow.com and synched my Steam account to it. It allows me to play on my XBox Series S through the Microsoft Edge app. I don’t recommend it. It’s laggy as hell, making it essentially unplayable. So let’s just say I have it in anticipation of one day getting a PC.

I’ve been watching a lot of FailRace GTA Online Survive the Hunt videos, lately. So I finally decided to get the game. It’s downloading right now.

Some random stuff.

Need the iPad cover and charger cuz I got an iPad from my company for 30€ but it was a testing device so no charger came with it as it probably got lost.

Razor because I’m tired of using my 10 year old trimmer who never cuz the hair as short as I’d like. Also the battery is not the best anymore.

The books are for personal interest. Talked with some people who trade but never really got interested until starting reading and watching a bit more online.

Recently "completed" upgrading my computer/desk space. It started with this:
20230611_141313.jpg

Finally caught the bug to build a PC, and got this guy together around late April/early May. Specs are below, for those interested.
Case: ASUS ROG Z11
Motherboard: ASRock Phantom Gaming X570 Mini-ITX
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X w/Noctua L9x65 cooler
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti Founder's Edition (reference model)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4 @3600Mhz
PSU: Super Flower Leadex III Gold 750W ATX
Storage: Crucial P3 Plus M.2 (2TB) & Crucial MX500 SSD (1TB)
Other: Additional 120mm bottom mount Noctua Redux fan

95% satisfied with it now as the hardware has been able to handle all of the games I've thrown at it thus far (granted, nothing too intense, but it hasn't throttled or given poor performance). For its age the 1080 has done remarkably well, though the basic blower cooling design has led to it getting warm on a few occasions which isn't helped by the middling air-flow of the case, and newer game releases are starting to exceed the 11 gigs of VRAM this thing has. Plan is to eventually replace it with an open-air design AMD 6800XT since it's reasonably priced and an upgrade spec-wise. Also unsure about holding onto the case long-term; bought it because it was heavily marked down on Amazon and from a brand I had heard of before, but it has some cons which include:

  • Aforementioned airflow deficiencies
  • Excessively large for being an ITX/DTX only case (roughly the size of a mid-tower, if not bigger in some dimensions)
  • No external access to I/O on motherboard or GPU, which is a rather flagrant design oversight from a company that produces both boards and graphics cards :boggled:. This also meant I had to find video cables with a 90-degree plug, which...there aren't many of, at least if you're looking for quality options and not alphabet soup brands on Amazon.

Afterwards my focus shifted to the furnishings surrounding the computer. First up was my chair; the IKEA model I'd used for a few years was stylish but gave me some pretty nasty back and butt pain if I took a stint longer than 30 minutes or so. Found a local Facebook listing for some Herman Miller Mirra and Aeron chairs, and brought home an example of the latter.

(It belongs to her obviously; I just get to borrow it)

Still paid a decent amount for it, but I fully see why everybody raves about these things. I've done full stints of work and only felt the need to get up and stretch once in a while, just for my personal anecdote.

Lastly, I picked up a new desk and other peripherals.
20230610_225118.jpg

In order from top to bottom:

  • ViewSonic OMNI VX-2718 monitor (27", curved, 1440p/165Mhz) (additional monitor one of the few carry-overs from my old setup)
  • Logitech K845ch mechanical keyboard w/Cherry MX Blue switches
  • SteelSeries Rival 5 mouse
  • HyperX wrist rests
  • X-Ray Pad Aqua Control+ mouse mat
  • Rolanstar Computer Desk

Satisfied with this lot so far; the curved monitor isn't nearly as weird to get accustomed to as I feared, and the keyboard is a noisy joy to type on :D. Have a lot more room underneath and on top of the desk compared to my old IKEA Micke setup, which somehow made this same footprint feel way more cramped.

I bought my first pair of trainers in years today...

I got them for my trip to Spa in two weeks' time, but I figured that they would also be good as 'driving shoes', instead of playing GT7 in my socks

They are comfortable but a bit on the neat side, but as a bonus, they are a good match for my Mercedes F1 T-shirt, which is grey and white, and coincidentally also happens to be Puma.

Just got a Thrustmaster ts-xw for £38 :)
Waiting for it to be delivered.

Well sort of.

Traded in my tx base £96 & 3x xbox one controllers at £32 each (which were just spares lying around the house now everyone has got series s/x in my family) which gave me £192 cex voucher to put towards the ts-xw which was £230, which comes with a 2 year warranty, so at least I can change it for another one if there's anything wrong with it.

I know it's not a dd base like everyone has nowadays but I'm only a casual sim racer & I'm already invested in the TM eco system (already got wheel & pedals) so this will do me fine.

I'm curious, what do you do with the comics you buy? Like, first of all, do you read them all when you get them (like me watching a TV show) or buy them and add them to the pile that you might someday get around to reading (like me with Steam games), or maybe you pace yourself and read them evenly spaced throughout the week (like me with... I dunno, food?)

And then what do you do with them when you're finished, do you keep them all? If so, I'm genuinely interested to see your collection, it must be enormous, unless it's digital? Do you ever re-read them, and if so, do you try to keep track of what's happened in previous issues so you can find specific ones easily?

The comics I buy are all digital. So I don't have to worry about storage, other than on my iPad. I usually read everything I buy the week I buy it. However, I did have a long period when I was buying more than I was reading. Out of the over 6700 comics I own, 1427 are still unread. That number was 1800 at the beginning of the year, so I've made some real headway. I do go back and reread favorite issues and runs. Some comics are harder to keep track of than others. Christopher Priest's run on Vampirella and all the spin-offs has been a challenge to keep straight, but it's because his stories are so densely packed. You can't just read them on a surface level, like an old Archie comic. Paying attention pays dividends. Not to say that there's anything wrong with an old Archie comic. I've surprised myself by how much of a fan of those old comics I've become as I've gotten older.

@Populuxe while I have to admit I'm a little disappointed you don't have racks and racks of tightly packed comics in your home, I really appreciate people being super into things - I think being a dad has made me realise there's joy in seeing other people enjoying themselves as well as doing a thing you enjoy - so I always appreciate seeing your posts. Thanks for humouring me, good luck with your backlog! Unfortunately I'm not making anywhere near that kind of progress with my Steam library...
