big money big tings.
I feel so stupid for spending a thousand dollars on a lens. But I need/want it so...
Why does camera stuff have to be so bloody expensive...

You must have quite a bit of expendendable income to spend that much on a lens.

Also, I have noticed that there are quite a few photographers in here.

So, can anyone recommend a good entry level DSLR for me? My digital camera just isn't good enough.

That lens is more expensive than my mom's camera...

And mine as well.
Camera Logic.

Yeah, some. But already having a 300mm, and needing more zoom without resorting to a cheap mirror lens that will only create more problems, it's kinda the only option.

a 600mm from Nikon starts at 9k.

Also, for a camera Nikon D3100 is pretty good. I'm pretty Nikon-bias after the Canon I had was crap but, 14mp, 3FPS, Live View, 11 Point AF, it's basic but powerful.

That tripod is questionable at best, though. It's only rated for 4.4 pounds, and the lens itself is about 4.2. Add in the 1 pound plus for the camera and new grip and you're close to 5.5 pounds. Don't expect many sharp photos, especially at 500mm, unless you really work to make sure everything is as stable as possible. Even then, any microvibration is going to be amplified. If your shutter speed isn't fast enough to overcome it you're going to get fuzzy images.

I got a sturdier tripod already, but it's rather clunky and hard to move the head, so I may just use it as a monopod mostly with the new zoom if I have to, and use the new tripod for stationary shots like HDR and stuff, with the basic lenses.

You guys posting new camera gear - I hate you all. I'm getting GAS again.

I'm pretty Canon-biased due to very little experience with Nikon. :P

My T1i/500D has served me quite well for the last few years. Therefore I'd suggest looking for a T3i/600D. Fr the time being, the 18-55 kit lens will suffice but you'll almost assuredly want at least another sooner than you'd think. ;)

What kind of budget are you looking at?

Oh, OK then. Interested in hearing your opinions of that lens when you've given it a shakedown.

Maybe about £300-£400. I need it all for that though. I maybe asking too much, just tell me if I am.
Looks like 400-500 would be doable but not 300-400. At least for new kit. Might not hurt to have someone more familiar with UK camera stores do some looking, though. All I have is Amazon.

Another cycling jersey.
Becomes a bit of a PITA with only having two while riding daily in the hot weather. At least I'm covered with enough to now just throw them in with our normal laundry routine.

Cheers Shaun.

Team kit?

Better have the shorts and socks too then, if you want to look pro :sly:

Can never have too many jerseys though.

Pre-Ordered this:

Went for the Limited 2x180g LP+CD set since the sleeve has some really cool artwork inside it and the vinyl itself is patterned like the album art.

It arrived:

Beautiful set. Although the vinyl isn't patterned, the reflection from the sleeve makes it look so in the product shots.

Also I just bought tickets to see them this July. Thom Yorke and Flea jamming together on the same stage? At a rather small venue (Roundhouse)? Yes please.

Forgot, the shorts as well yes but no socks.
Replica stuff, have you seen the price on Team Sky's webpage for the official gear? :scared:
Didn't look at socks there but they probably cost what I paid all up.

Not sure if I'll wear them as a set though or mix and match with my other gear.

Cheers Shaun.

Team Sky are using Rapha kit this year which is as expensive as you can get. :ill: Although Rapha stuff is really nice.

Ooh, tickets... You lucky guy!

I also bought Amok, but it was the special edition CD with the chromed artwork. It's a great album. 👍

Yup, Amok is really good. Much more deliberate sounding than The Eraser, and at this point I think I like it better than either Radiohead's and RHCP's last releases, although the RHCP was horrible from what I remember. I think I fell asleep when I first listened to it, haven't played it much since then.

Yeah new kit looks nice but no way was I paying the asking price.

Cheers Shaun.

I usually have to wait a few months to make up my mind on a new album. Amok is great so far, but I'm not sure if I prefer it to The King of Limbs. When I first heard TKOL, it really didn't blow me away, but now it's one of my favourite albums. But yep, Amok has some addictive tunes.

140 quid for the Team Sky jersey? :ouch: replica is much better in that case then :scared:

Probably best to wear it together, mixing and matching could look odd.

Got myself some new ski boots since my old ones have become too soft (and because it's fun to buy stuff)
Atomic Hawx X.
