To quote Michael Palin from The Life of Brian: You jammy bastard.

It's the one event I'm trying to do every year at the moment... which is unfortunate as it's pretty much the most expensive I've ever been to/go to, at £637 ($800) for tickets and onsite camping alone, the 4 days worth of quite expensive on site food and drink also adds up!

The Festival of Speed is one of the most iconic and important automobile gatherings in the world. I can see why you'd try to make it an annual event. But to be honest, if I lived in the UK, it would be the Goodwood Revival for me. I just love watching all that vintage tin being driven in anger around the Goodwood Circuit.

It's absolutely on my to do list, but this year it clashes with a trip abroad.

Anyway, related.. I've also just bought this...

Used Canon fit Sigma 70-300mm

I've had one before and it was a great lens. I got rid of the last one when I got my L-series 400mm thinking I wouldn't need it, but the fact is (in my hands at least) the 400mm isn't that much better, but is a far more hefty lump to lug around, and whereas the image stabilisation is a feature, the mass of the thing makes tracking/panning more clumsy than the lightweight Sigma. The 400mm is also push/pull, so you constantly have to twist the locking ring if you're moving around with the camera.

This is why I like Sandown and Phillip Island Historics down here.

I love Amazon, especially when you order engine gaskets from them and they don't fit in their cheapo mylar bag, so the packers fold them in half and crease them down so they take up less space in their truck. This is like the 3rd thing that has been lost or destroyed this month lol. I've delayed this engine job 6 times so far.

Have you witnessed the Manx TT?

That’s a bucket list item for me.

No, net yet anyway. I've spoken to people who have been, and it sounds like the kind of thing where you have to book transport etc. about a year in advance, or make an extended stay on the island. With that said, the attendance from tourists is remarkably low at 43,000, which is on par with a British Superbike race at Silverstone, so perhaps it's not too bad. I'm also not sure where to start on the practicalities of getting about and spectating, it's a lot of ground to cover and of course a bunch of the main roads are closed!

My plan is to get a bike in London and ride up there for the weekend. Pack a tent just in case rooms are booked. Spend as long as funds permit and head back.

I've been several times as my grandparents used to live there. Watching bikes fly past at 190mph on narrow public roads is a sight to see for sure. Especially if you are familiar with those roads in the first place. Trouble is, and to be fair i've not been there to watch the races in over twenty years now so things may well have changed, but spectating is difficult. The popular/dramatic places to watch are busy and on a first come first serve basis and the rest you get to see very little action. You can get around the island even when the main trunk roads are closed, but obviously you are trying to do so with everyone else. But the main roads/circuit are opened between races anyway. You also need your own transport there to do so, walking around isn't really an option.

It's certainly something to experience at least once as it's quite different from any other motorsport i've watched, its a much more visceral experience as you can get so close to the action. But i feel you see much more of it on TV. You need to rely on media so much whilst there to know what's going on any way.

LOL. I work in the automotive industry and we ship parts out nightly. Our cars have a clear paint protector that goes on top of the back bumper that has the manufacturer's name on it. They're about 3ft long. You can gently bend them into a circle to ship out but you can't crease them or they're ruined.

We get a box back from a body shop one night that is maybe 8"x8"x6" and we open it up and someone has taken one of those protectors and folded it up accordion style and returned it. So naturally they're not getting credit for it. The body shop owner calls a few weeks later and asks where his credit is for it and we tell him how it came back and he's not getting credit because the part is ruined. He says that's impossible and his people would not have done that so we send him the picture of the part and the box it came back in. He apologizes and says he will handle that situation.

But I see things like you're talking about almost on a daily basis.

They're finally here. I ordered these a while back, about two weeks after my Z8 and Zf purchase. I wanted to wait for their special edition counterparts to complement the Zf's retro styling but the normal variants were only $10 cheaper and in-stock at the time, and the retro lenses were also on back order because everyone wanted to get them, including me.

Well... my luck being what it is, these two lenses quickly went on backorder so I just had to wait. I figured what the hell, I could wait, I had all my F-mount glass and all the projects I was doing with the Helios lenses and adapters and motors...

But anyway I now officially own Z-mount lenses native to my cameras. And the Zf, especially, benefits the most as it's already such a thin camera. Adding the Proto adapter and chunky russian lenses to that poor thing made it look monstrous, something the Z8 can pull off instead.

One thing that tripped me up was the front element design of both of these lenses. Makes my camera look like it's shooting through a pinhole lol

The 28mm will definitely live on my Zf for a few weeks while I play around with some film emulation in-camera and maybe do some X-Pan emulation with this focal length and crop it down to a 65:24 aspect ratio.

All in all I'm excited!

New Dualsense because the left stick on my old one has decided that it only wants to move left most of the time now.

Do the thumbsticks have this slight clicking on the center position?

All four of mine have it and it drives me nuts. I had to use thumb grips on the sticks to sort of get rid of it, or at the very least make me not notice it as much.

I can't say that I have noticed any clicking sound like that.

Hoping this new one doesn't have any issues. 2nd Dualshock I bought for the PS4 a few years ago only lasted lasted like two months before developing drift in the right stick. You'd think the quality would be better by now. 😅

More like a feeling than a sound. My DS4s lasted a long time and still are fine without any issues. My DS5s are... questionable.

I was recommended these by a friend and decided to pick some up. Should be here by the weekend.

8 Calzones from Calzone Kitchen and also a free pack of two others, but you can’t pick the flavour so not sure what they’ll send.

Isn't it glorified gyros/shawarma? Top one is pretty close to what my Mrs doing regularly.

I believe they’re very similar. More closely resembling a Burrito or Stromboli. Not strictly a Calzoni which is more of a folded item rather than rolled.

Valentines presents. The 20 oz mug is for my wife, the 10 oz is for me (because I'm a klutz and can't be trusted to get my coffee from the kitchen to, well, anywhere without spilling it. I also have a tendency to forget where I put it down so I've got at least half a chance of it still being warm when I find it now :embarrassed::dopey:) and the cocktail shaker is for my bar... because I love my bar (and the honeycomb espresso martinis I'll make in it). :D

We don't really do Valentines in the traditional sense, but it's a good excuse to have a BBQ and a couple of drinks... and prezzies.

TB
Here's two I prepared earlier...

As well as tasting extremely good they look absolutely stunning in the sunlight too. The honeycomb vodka part of the drink has shimmer through it so it looks like it has metallic flecks through it.

Recipe here. Edit: I never get the cocktail kit, it's full size bottles only for me.

Edit 2: You may notice we use short cocktail glasses. Again it's because I'm a klutz.
