Galaxy S25 Ultra

For $5/month, I couldn't say no.

LG 32" Monitor

I have been wanting to upgrade my home PC monitor for quite sometime now. It's a 10 year old 27" that came with the system. I'm also wanting a new PC that is as close as my gaming PC and I was going to wait until it gets built, if I can get my former co-worker who built the gaming pc, to get off his rear end and tell me what to buy.

But anyway about 3 months ago I started looking at monitors and saw this one on Best Buy's website. I knew I wanted a 32" flat panel with a 240hz refresh rate. It was a little bit expensive at the time. I looked again maybe 3 weeks ago and it was the same price. But on Tuesday when I looked they had it on sale for $400 less so I couldn't pass it up.

Got it home and I'm not the best at assembling things. I tend to get very angry when trying to do it. But I didn't have much trouble putting this together. Even on my ancient system it looks really good so I can't wait to see it on a modern more powerful system. The black is super dark and the colors on my desktop icons are much sharper.

I don't know how a lot of the setting adjustments work yet. The only negatives I have with it are the cord for the power pack is about a foot too short for me as now I've got it perched on the desk leg to keep it from dangling in the air. Also I wish it had a few more degrees of sideways swivel. But otherwise I think it is going to be a good one.

I just bought what may very well be the most fabulous PS2 ever.

Someone recently traded in this NTSC-J Sakura Pink PS2 into my local game store, and I pretty much knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it. I traded in my regular black Japanese PS2 towards it, and ended up paying around $50 in the end. Sadly, it didn't have the matching controller with it, so I plan on ordering that down the line.
My cousin had a silver "fat" PS2 just like that one for years, with a matching controller.

He ended up giving it to some friend with all of his games...

The "fat" model seems to be more reliable than the Slim, so if anyone's looking for a 2nd-hand PS2, my advice is to get the fat one 👍

TBH, the Slim is also very reliable overall, but it is a lot easier for dirt and whatever else to get into the disc tray and drive. I've also heard that it's possible for the mechanism that controls/holds the Slims disc door to scratch discs if it gets damaged, but I never personally experienced that with either of the Slim PS2s I've owned.

That being said, I've always gravitated towards the Fat PS2s, because I had one for most of my childhood. I also love all the funky color variations that the Fat models got. At some point I'd love to have an Astral Blue PS2, but it's currently a little hard for me to justify dropping ~$1000 on something like that. :scared:

Needed a new laptop after several years of just using a phone & Chromebook at home. As I loathe Windows and my old iMac (the discontinued 27 inch version) was the best computer I’ve ever had I decided to return to the Apple herd.

Macbook Air M4. Primarily for work and some basic photo/video editing but it seems I can get some games on it as well. Anything too recent would probably cause it to melt but there’s a load of old PC stuff I’ve never played on GOG (and Stardew Valley of course).

So the HDD in my PS3 is dying and has been in need of a replacement drive for quite some time now. So I decided it was time for an SSD since my current drive was pretty slow at times, and I wanted something faster. Fortunately, I had saved up enough Microsoft Reward points the past couple of months to get an Amazon gift card to cover most of the cost for it. Normally, I would've waited until I had enough to cover it all, but it was on 30% discount, and I wanted to hurry up and get it before it went back up again.

And here it is:

While I have seen a lot of mixed things about whether using SSDs in PS3s is worth it, I did a lot of research on them before buying this one, and I am convinced it is. Of course, I know the PS3 will not be able to fully take advantage of the drive's speeds, but it'll at least be better than what I had before. I am also aware the PS3 lacking trim is an issue, but from what I gather, I think as long as I am mindful about how often I delete stuff, I should be fine.

I have already plugged it into my computer via a USB adapter, and everything seems fine. Unfortunately, I cannot test it on my PS3 right now because my console is out for maintenance, but as soon as I get it back, I am going to plug it in and see how it goes! Looking forward to seeing how it does! :)

I own a PS2 Slim, got it like 20 years ago as a birthday gift.
Never had any major issues with it, but from my personal experience I can tell you're very much right about dirt getting into the disc tray (and even on top of the laser lens).

However, my Slim isn't exactly in its original state... it's modded to run "non-official" CDs and DVDs, which was a very common thing to do back then.

That means I can play a game with my disc tray completely open, with some inventive use of duct tape, a coin and a piece of paper... 😅

Also, there's another issue I've spotted on my Slim: there is an orange strip inside the disc tray, I think it's connected to the laser unit, and as the laser goes back and forward to read the disc, this orange strip can easily start to go up and scratch my disc as I play.

I noticed this only after hearing this very strange "scratching" sound while playing... and sure enough, some of my most beloved games are already showing quite a few scratches on the surface.
Can't seem to find a solution for this. The only thing that seems to work is : use the DVD I've been given to bypass the system and allow it to read non-official DVDs, use a piece of paper on a very specific place to trick the PS2 into thinking the disc tray is closed (but it isn't), run the DVD so that the laser unit comes foward, remove the DVD, push the orange strip down with my finger, and then put in the disc I actually want to play... switch off the console and on again.

Might sound tricky , but doing this seems to be enough to prevent that orange strip from scratching my games... thank God my PS2 is modded, otherwise I couldn't do this work-around.

This one not exactly a purchase, more a reward for previous services rendered. Someone at work asked if I wanted an old Mac they were going to scrap, as they knew I liked “Apple stuff”.

I wasn’t expecting it to be quite this old

Not sure what I can do with it, or if it’ll even work, but a nice little project.
