There is a few on this page.

Not really the same as what you have already looked at, though.

Not orange but this might be to your liking.
Click on the pic for true image shape. 👍

there is a brand called ichibahn that made some aluminum orange shift knobs and e-brake handles however they must of went out of buisness because I cant find a store that sells very many of there products.

as for the shift knob with the light inidcator is awesome! 👍

Looking good 👍

What seat is that and where can you get it?

I dont know the brand of the seat been trying to figure that out? There is also other colors. the place you can get it is here

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dautomotive&field-keywords=UNIVERISAL+AUTO+RACING+SEATS+4+POINTS+&x=0&y=0

here is some more simular to that but different brand and more colors 👍
http://www.performancealley.com/product/Racing-Seats/Default.aspx?gfid=p703-o3453

and a few of those are on amazon for a little cheaper

Question for anyone who has modded there g25 or g27 steering wheel.
If you have a 350mm size steering wheel does it feel to big or clunky and does the effect on the rumble motors on the g25/27 badly enough to have less force feedback?
I think 320mm or 13" would be the ideal size however I really love that momo wheel.

[Edit]
also does it effect the reach of the shifter paddles with your hands/fingers?

geeze man, I wouldn't go that far and buy gloves and $300-$400 steering wheels.

Just focus on building a rig/sim first

agreed, i wouldnt bother with the boots and gloves, i can understand the steering wheel, knobs and that but yeah i guess just a tip to save you some dosh

like i said those are possible not guaranteed ill be doing everything else before i get those.

What about a rollcage, helmet and full race suit?

Only joking mate...
Im glad to see another member looking to do a d.i.y sim.
Love reading these kind of threads....

I wish though, people would consider being more creative than copy "Chillicokes". Yes excellent as it is having thread after thread of copycat projects its beginning to get a little repetitive.

like i said it will be based off of chilicokes cockpit things like the positioning of the reversed pedals however i havent designed it yet.

Ok would it be bad for me to ask for donations on my cockpit? LOL im really broke I forgot ill need a hdtv as well ha maybe ill scrounge up enough cash this summer kinda hard when your out of a job!

LOL try and be more realistic with some of the stuff for your cockpit. You want all this stuff but have no way of paying for it :/

You should prolly start building the thing before asking for donations lol.

HA like i said ill be building it just gonna take a while this is more of a prep list that im showing everyone its going to take me a few months.

Nothing wrong with it taking a while.
I dont think your approaching it too realistic is all. Maybe reconsider your prep list to accomodate your budget and go from their? Your "prep list" is rather extravagant isnt it. I love the way you said "thats all for now" and only a few posts later bring us into the reality of your current situation.

In all seriousness have you any idea the costs involved in making a cockpit like the one you want? The materials, buying a seat, then things like seat runners, tools, paint and possibly paying for additional things like delivery or someone to help in building/welding then paint and plastic etc? Its hard for me to guess in $ but for the cockpit without mods and with a G27 something in the region of $800-$1000 has to be realistic. Depending on how much you spend on a seat as it could easily go much higher.

Later then to add in items like the JP mod, wheel mod, new wheel rim, hand brake, gloves, 3DTV, surround sound. All items you refer to and lets just take a guess at it being a $4000+ project.
Thats quite a BIG "thats all for now" isnt it.

Why not if on a budget get the wheel first, use it on a wheel stand and even mod it a little just for starters?

Completely agree!
When I looked at the costs involved, I decided it was better to buy the commercial product($readymade < cost + time + ability from me), it's not perfect (I've modded it already) but it continues to give me lot's of fun.

later when I have more time(haha), I know I'll build "my cockpit" and those numbers are very realistic, except I'll want motion as well :scared:

but one step at a time... like I said dont give up on the dream of a sim rig, and good luck.

To the OP, you don't need lots of cash for a functional cockpit.

All you basically need is a sturdy platform to mount a seat, wheel and display to, wood is ideal for this purpose, not just because it's easy to work with, but also because it's cheap.

I mean, the inside of a racing car isn't exactly the Ritz now is it?

Seriously though, a budget for a cracking setup would go something like this..........

Seat - Seat from ebay £45.00
G25 - £150.00
Monitor/TV - £150-£300 ( depending on size etc.)
Sound - £150-£200 for basic surround sound system if using monitor instead of TV.
Wood - £50.00
Screws and stuff - £20.00

Then after you have a basic cockpit built you can add all the bells and whistles if you like, and the beauty of using wood is that it's re-usable if you need to tweak some dimensions etc.

getting the material for the cockpit will be simple and cheap welding it ill need help because i dont weld. as of now im just focusing on getting a g27 a seat and material for the basic design then everything else comes next. im also putting in resumes for work so maybe with a joooobbb ill be able to afford that shizz

yea but im no craftsman maybe i could get my uncle to help me build somethign with wood hes a craftsman. however i dont know how buttkickers vibrate on wood if its the same or if its louder then metal or what not.

i might not even have to buy a tv for a while as im probably gonna find a way to hook up my acer 22" 720p/1080i flatscreen monitor usually for my computer but with the right cords i can easily hook up my surround sound and my screen to my ps3. a little small but better then the 36 inch old skool tv i got lol.

You don't need to be a craftsman, all you need is to be able to do a reasonably straight cut in a piece of wood, 90 degree's, no fancy angles or mitres required.

Okay lets try and get some thinking into you cockpit.
Basics come to mind.

Three points Id like to put forward for consideration.

1) First up for instance, does your 22" monitor work with a PS3, is it HDCP compatible?
If its a 22" monitor it will be 16:10 and not 16:9 so you will also have some border area in the picture. Will that annoy you? You may also require a DVI-HDMI cable as your monitor may not have HDMI input. Dont assume you just connect it and bingo, check and make sure it works if your not already certain. Some monitors have issues with PS3.

2) Next your going to need a wheel, not much point having a frame etc if you dont have a wheel. Why not even consider a cheaper wheel like the DFGT or indeed the upcoming Fanatec Carrera? The money saved on this alone compared to the price of some G27s could go towards other areas.

3) If you look on the forums lots of people have made cheap "budget cockpits".
You could always start with that. So I suggest you look in their for inspiration.

1) Thats what im about to find out. Im purchasing a HDMI to DVI cord on amazon for 3$ US. I dont know what you mean by the 16:9/16:10 difference please explain better what you mean by border area. this is the exact screen I have http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/acer-al2216wbd/4505-3174_7-32082877.html It says in the specs that it is 16:10 Not a good thing huh?

2) I just dont see a point in getting a wheel without a 6 speed shifter and a clutch whats the point? Best buy did a sell on the g27 a month ago for 150$ US I hope there will be another sell like that soon but I have untill who knows when gt5 comes out to purchase one so ill save up in the next few months wait for a good sell and snag it. that or the g25.

3) Yea thanks for the advice Ive considered using PVC piping for my cockpit a lot cheaper then metal or wood materials.

I don't know if this qualifies as exactly diy, but I bought one of the Henard Racing rigs, took 10min to set up and it's pretty bad ass. An inexpensive alternative for us guys with not a lot of money or time, plus fully customizable. I love mine.

For those of you who are not familar with my rig, I design and developed the SIMUL8R PVC pod. I've posted my PVC plans free to the public as a DoItYourself project for the past year. The most popular threads for those replicating my design can be found in LumenLab, Insidesimracing and photos I've posted on photobucket. I am introducing myself to explain that Henardracing has basically taken my ideas from my design incorporated into his and currently is trying to sell for profit. I do not mind others duplicating my work for their enjoyment but when it comes down to selling it as a product it is just theft.

Yeah there seems to be a lot of Astroturf getting rolled out for that particular site.
