Formula C - Euro Series - Race 1/5 - Brno GP - Tune for AI 40/40
AI 40/40? Why so low you ask? Well if any of you have tried or read about the current state of Formula C on PCars 2 you will know there are some major tire problems. To be short, in the cool Brno weather it is impossible to warm the tires up to race pace no matter how many laps you race. So you have this slippery machine losing its front and/or back end on almost every corner however you take it. The TT record is around 2.02 but that was with pre-warmed tires, a luxury you do not get in qualifying here, and in the race after the first lap those warm tires go cool and you have a terrible time. We are at post patch 5.0 at this point and rather than wait for a possible fix I decided to go ahead and make this race fun and stable despite the odds. If the problem gets fixed, this tune may become redundant but if like me you want to work your way up the tiers from bottom to top here is the way to do it right now!
First task was to 'cripple' all the excitement out of the car to make spins less frequent, then by using wet tires on the rears and slicks on the front. Some people recommend using sports all round which is possible but they just don't feel right to me on the car. As my tune will mean top lap times for the car are now around 2.10 racing against the AI at any high level is impossible (they don't have tire problems!). I finally found AI 40/40 would lap the same as you with this tune so it makes for a good and still fun challenge, even though the car is way slower than spec. It still is possible to spin, but short shifting and avoiding strong power changes in sharp bends (well any bend) should give you a pleasant time. I raced full distance of 10 laps and once I got in a rhythm it was no problem. The AI give you a good race, especially at the start! You can't hear your engine above the roar of all the others so you shift from memory not sound. As long as you don't spin at the start (car is not THAT crippled!) and keep your cool you can soon draw a comfortable 2 or 3 seconds ahead for the rest of the race. I used a low radiator opening at only 10% as I intended to short shift a lot and wanted all the grunt I could get. Temps reached 266 by the end of the race as long as I used this strategy. If you want to rev the car higher and push it more I recommend at least 25%. I am using the viscous LSD as I liked the predictable smooth handling it gave, the geared LSD can be used with similar results tuned as shown below (just turn it on and viscous off). The Clutch LSD resulted in the car wobbling around too much through corners, never seemed smooth to me, fortunately we have alternatives!
If the rest of the FC series has the tire issues I will stick to this extra stable tune, as to not waste time producing 5 throwaway tunes! Gear ratios will be provided for each track.
