Sloppy's Fast, Stable and Fun Career Tunes

Formula A Championship - Complete Series - 1 tune + gears for all races - AI@100/100
As this method (1 base tune we can get used to) worked well for us in Formula Renault I decided to keep the same format here. Crucial too is that PS4 users (like me) have limited storage space for setups so no reason to make 8 when 1 will do!
Will be posting the final drive gear page for each race as this IS crucial. We want 7th gear to be in the 'zone' when we press the DRS button!
I tested the tune at the full Azure Coast to see how it deals with dodgy roads with unpredictable camber and obstacles(!) plus the Monaco (Azure Circuit) itself. It's not in this series (shame) but at least we know we can deal with all kinds of corners if we need to (lowly PS4 records set - go and beat them!).

We are varying the AI as a couple of races are impossible at 100, BUT by half way I found that I was way ahead on points so next time I would do 100/100 for the whole series and just write off the couple bad races. I am judging the AI in each race to what a human can expect to do performing at the top of his/her game. Overall though the series is perfect at 100/100. Thrills and spills but hold your nerve together and PRACTICE the courses first and you can win without too much difficulty.

Recommend you take this tune and try out as many different tracks you can to familiarize yourself with the cars handling. Here is the tune around Bannochbrae (final drive 6.400):

All races will be 10 laps. This race length passes FAST in this car so don't blink!

Race 1/8 Red Bull Ring GP - 10 Laps

My first FA race. My first practice saw me 4 seconds off the pace so I went off to the Azure coast and Monaco to get used to handling this car under tight conditions. That coast road + the circuit are great for practicing handling the car when it's bouncing around, almost losing it and tight corners. Makes a race track seem like child's play after!
Back in qualifying now 1.5 secs behind. Fine tuned the final drive to the track and bingo got my pole! Except....last minute some dude beat my time. Ah well top 5 is always good. There are 8 races and whatever the game throws at us we're gonna hang in there.
IF.....you have jumped in here after just buying the game well....this is gonna be hard! Recommend you start with lower open wheel tiers first. All the tunes are here. We are now just one step away from the big boys, Formula 1! I mean Formula X of course, but a rose smells the same etc....

Race was a blast, full of excitement. Keep clear of the AI and make your apexes or else they will dive in there and steal them from you. DRS seems to be available on every straight so use it for final straight and the one after it. KEEP ahead of the AI when braking so they don't hit you. We have a sweet stable tune here so unless you have a major crash you should be able to keep facing the right way. Use major throttle and brake in straight lines if you can. There's a ton of power and torque in this thing it WILL spin out if you try to show off...

BIG tip. It rains after about lap 6/7. Make sure you have your wets ready as the default pit option. Pit as soon as you see rain drops. In moments the course is waterlogged. Fortunately no major nasty puddles to deal with just ease off the gas a little and don't hug the apexes where the puddles usually hang out.
The AI will pit a lap later gaining you precious seconds. In my case some cocky (NOT copyrite HAHA) Ai driver did NOT pit, and opted to drive carefully. This can make you anxious as on the last lap he was half way around! BUT he corners dead slow so keep calm and pick him off. Phew race #1 done maximum points!

Race 2/8 Road America - 10 Laps - AI 50/50

The AI are mercilessly fast here at high AI levels. Tried 100/75/60 and eventually 50. Needed a setting that would give me pole if and ONLY if I made my best qualifying time ever in the session. As it happened I fluked it right at the death, stealing pole by fractions. The part about AI needing 80 to apply their own 'setups' for the track seems superfluous here. They can and WILL use DRS to boost right up behind you and past if you are not careful at several places round the circuit. Auto tires chooses soft slicks for the 10 lap race and they will be half worn out by the end. Fortunately the AI too seem to slow down along with us. Won't stop them attempting nutjob passes at any moment so be aware! Without actually cheating you can block them legally by making your one allowed line change before a corner so set up on the wrong side of the track often to fool them. You WILL get hit...keep it full on rear if you can. My race was a whole bunch of stress AND fun....AI never more than a second and a half behind I saved my DRS for when it was needed most. Use it on every final straight for sure. The video of last 2 laps I am including will show how hard I tried to keep ahead! Off the track a couple times on the last lap I had to change my t-shirt after the race finish. Hands were shaking a little by the final the few bends as my grip had mostly gone and I was hanging on for dear life. Hard slicks won't wear out so much of course but you will have to be a superstar to keep up with them at this AI level (50). Phew!!

Here is the final drive you will need for the circuit:

Race 3/8 Circuit Of The Americas GP - 5 Laps - AI 90/90

This was a LOT of work and not a lot of fun. Game seriously needs more types of slick tires in open wheel. Softs last only enough time to qualify and hards last 30 laps so the handling is completely different. This whole thread is about having fun so I will spare you my hours of testing and just recommend 90/90 and a short 4 lap race. You could go hard tires for 10/20 laps but turn the AI down to 75/75. That's for the serious racer only. Like I said it's hard work keeping the car on the track.

Final drive as shown here:

Race 4/8 Brno GP - 10 Laps - AI 100/100

Most run race in the series so far for me. This tune is easily capable of beating the PS4 record in TT, and I suggest you go and do a lot of laps to practice BECAUSE qualifying is in HEAVY FOG! With our correct gearing this is not too hard as even blind you will soon know when to brake depending in what gear you are in. BIG tip: As soon as you come out of pits tag behind the first AI car you see and stick with him for several laps. This should get your first safe time in top 5, then DRS past him on final straight to gain a position or 2. Then pit again and once you have a top 5 position this way tag the next AI car but this time as soon as you can safely do so power past him and go for broke. I managed to pole on very last lap as time ran out. If you don't drive with the other cars they seem to post faster times, it's like they are wary when you are on the track. As we know we can lap around 1.40 in TT we know we can race well in the race itself as it's hazy then sunshine. The soft slicks will slowly wear out during the race but nothing dangerous and the AI slow down too. Drive as smooth as possible without jerky movements which will make it easier on the tires and safer at the end when they are worn down.
I won the race by half a second, one guy (who had fastest lap) dived bombed me and took himself out of the race points. Another guy did same and took first but I took it back a lap or so later. Just be patient, drive smooth and the race is a blast!

Here is your final drive setting:

Race 5/8 Watkins Glen GP - 5 Laps - AI 80/80

Short race as mucho tire wear on this circuit. Use 100/100 at your own risk! I thought I'm well ahead so will do it anyway but unless you lower the aggression a lot (which takes the fun out TBH) they WILL wreck you repeatedly as they fly past (through) you on this circuit. They have 3 seconds per lap on you at 100 and you can't stay safe on such a narrow circuit. 80/80 was pretty even. Fun race.

Your final drive:

Project CARS 2_20180625004931.jpg

Race 6/8 Imola - 5 Laps - AI 100/100

Rain in all sessions. Puddles randomly in crucial places. I qualified last but only 2.5 seconds from pole. I went from last to 10thin 1 1/2 laps easily as AI nerfed after patch 6.0 in the rain BUT they glide over puddles, whereas we wreck...THEN hit puddle in middle of track couldnt see it as right behind a car who drove fine over it. Spun me around. I quit to pits. Not a rage quit but pointless racing in this garbage scenario. You might have better luck. If you need the points THAT badly just put AI to 00/00 and suffer this PITA.

Final drive IF you have to guts to use DRS on the final straight! Either way the higher gearing will help you out in the wet. I added traction control and ABS but didn't notice any difference. BTW good luck at the start...I changed up to 4th and STILL spun round....

Race 7/8 Zuhai- 5 Laps - AI 100/100

Back to good conditions again. Good level competition against the AI. Fun times! Except an AI took me out on lap 3 but didn't mind cos didn't need the points. No nemesis or rivalry in this series I just lost 2 in a row and I'm still over 50 ahead! You are pretty safe keeping 100/100 all the way in hindsight...

Your final drive Sir!

Project CARS 2_20180625015809.jpg

Race 8/8 Dubai GP - 5 Laps - AI 60/60

AI are blisteringly fast on higher settings. Race at your peril! You need to keep the power on at all times here even more than normal or you spin out leaving a 1st gear turn. Change up quickly to avoid most of the oversteer. A separate tune could be made for this track but I've done the gears for you and guarantee a fair fight at 60/60.
Overall I loved this car but I will and I think YOU will have much more fun racing it in TT or MP. It's a lot of fun and very forgiving if you remember to keep the power on through slow corners. Some races are pretty easy, others tough but use the AI I recommend and they will all be even challenges. Except Imola....YUK!!

Here is the final for ya:

Tiers 1/2 - Touring Car Masters - ALL Series/Circuits - AI 100/100 - 1 Stable Setup
OK it's an FF car...and its a Megane (GT Sport players will know what I'm talking about!) BUT what a lot of fun to be had in all these races. AI is sweetly balanced to perfection at AI 100/100 (well done SMS!) and it's not as if one booboo and you're half a lap behind anyway, so no excuses dial the AI UP and prepare for some great racing.

Tier 2 is just the Euro series and that's it. Tier 1 you have 3 local feeders, a semi series and a world championship series. There are NO broken races, just a couple of notes I will mention in a moment. This single tune will do you well in all races except the Red Bull Ring National race, which is almost a mini oval race. I have provided a special closely geared tune just for this one race. You can still use the default tune but I was well off the pace so its up to you.

Somewhere in the mix:

A Nurburgring Combined in the Tier 2 Euro. You CAN spend 20 mins qualifying (and NOT mess up) or just start from the back and go old school Gran Turismo style (remember when that series was fun?) fighting from the back. You have plenty of time to do it but a good start and dive down to first bend you can cleanly still get in the top 5. Then it's a mad race against ONE very fast driver and a couple who are not slouches. With this tune you should be able to qualify first and win all the other races fairly easily so any points here are good. Lowering the AI IS an option but make it fun and don't go lower than 80/90!

The Ring has a combo race in World Series too but this time it's TWO laps minimum. Car is great fun to drive make it longer if you wish because....you CANNOT lose. On 2 laps it starts to rain end of first and as long as you have your wet tires waiting in the pit after the change it's easy catch up time because the AI do NOT pit! Dumbos....I was 40 seconds behind after my pit having finished the first lap in 2nd place. BY half way through the 2nd I was ahead as the AI struggle both as they are nerfed in the rain and also as they have slicks on....oh dear. To make it a challenge go for a CLEAN lap. Not easy with those aggressive losers spraying rain in your face and doubling up to block you but you have such a massive advantage anyway it's a sure thing.

First race of WC is at Sugo in the rain. I could not qualify better than 15th in the rain, as the AI do NOT seemed to be nerfed in qualifying. BUT in the race they surely are, so no worries, pass them all on the first lap and then pull away. I won by 6 seconds in the 3 lap race. No sweat.

There is a Circuit Of The Americas in the mix also. Dry, hot and tire melting temperatures. Tires will overheat half way through but this is a nippy tune and with early braking and hugging the apexes you should have no real problems here.

The final race in the World Series Tier 1 is Algarve. Tires overheat again so you will need to get your qualifying laps in ASAP no mistakes. I started 15th (ran out of real life time!) but calculated from the standings which racers I needed to stay close to in order to win the series. 4th place was my goal and I got 3rd. Exciting all the way!

Overall lots of fun! At the 2 ring races you can raise your 6th gear a notch or 2 to gain a couple seconds on the downhill straights and the final straight. Not necessary though as you are only red lining for seconds in 6th at the end.

Here is the default tune, recommend leaving brake ducts the same for qualifying as you want your brakes working fine all the time. The radiator you can put to 0% for just a few laps if you need for qualifying also, or 20% so you get plenty of time to warm the tires up and get lots of practice laps in.

Here is the short gearing for Red Bull Ring National. Gives you real smooth changes during bends and passes and allows you to keep the revs in the sweet power range most of the time. The AI don't have a chance in the race! I qualified 6th but after half a lap I was in front and pulling away.

These race series with this car is probably the simplest fun you can have in this game/sim. ONE tune to dial in (just adjust fuel especially for the Ring!) and all your time then is spent racing. Enjoy!

ALTERNATIVE METHOD FOR EXTRA FUN WITH MORE RACING LESS QUALIFYING

Put race length up to maximum. Do NOT qualify and pick em off one car per lap! Start at AI 100 still (after at least practicing with the car for a while first).
Most tracks are around 16 laps full length so that's one car per lap. I am definitely going to give this method a go next. This way instead of 20 mins qualifying followed by a 5-9 minute race (the Ring excepted) you can have a fun 30 minute race (qualifying 1st and leading from start to finish gets boring fast).
These slicks don't wear down too quickly but if you find they do just pit! The AI in theory should be in the same boat. As mentioned earlier this is not a car/tune that you can easily mess up in so it's great for a mini-endurance. Anyone who tries this please post your results here, I'd love to hear how it worked out and what AI you could beat.

Finally....if you are stuck for time (real lives huh?!) but still want a fun and hectic exciting race series then:
1)Load up the race at minimum distance (usually 3 laps)
2) set the AI to 50/50
3)Select race only no qualifying
4) Dial in the tune set the fuel and go for it!
N.B. Some 'creative' passing may be needed to get through the pack with this method....
