It will be at the same time we run on Tuesdays: 22:00 Eastern.

Note to all: All Races Will Be in the SNAIL_Division2 lounge. Send a friend request if you haven't already.

So, are you going to tune and drive? And that is perfectly fine, that just means you are driving your own car (along with the rest of your team).

And thank you.

JB? As in a person? No, I don't have that one.

Resent the PM to you.

Vol, please sign me up as a driver! (G27)

As far as suggestions go, I like the idea of our constructors actually taking that role very literally. In other words, they would not only build the car, but also manage the race as well. They would be like the designer, race engineer, and crew chief all rolled into one. To copy a term I used here, it would be like the constructors playing B-spec, but with real drivers!

To force teams to communicate and coordinate, we could simulate that each constructor only has one pit crew. Therefore, only one of his cars can refuel and change tires at a time. If two of his cars were ever in pit lane at the same time, the second car would have to do a drive through penalty on the next lap (to simulate the time lost while waiting for his pit crew to finish working on the first car).

Speaking of communication, the idea that I'm most excited about for this series is is the idea of having team-specific communication. Obviously, this wouldn't be a problem if we were on Xbox Live, but were aren't so how should we implement this? I guess we could do some testing once the draft is completed? Each team could then test and decide which option works best for them? Ideally, a few of us will have access to either Ventrilo or TeamSpeak, but if not we can give Google+ Hangout a test drive as well.

These are just suggestions though. The single pit crew idea may add too much complexity for the first season (although adding complexity, aka strategy, is kinda the point of that idea). And having the team-specific communication depends on whether all of the drivers and constructors have enough bandwidth to connect to a GT5 lounge will simultaneously running VoIP software on their computer. :scared:

Since for whatever reason Vol has ignored my PM's I'll just go ahead and post it here:

I went ahead and whipped you up a quick phpBB freeforums.org test forum so you can see how it'd work.

I made it so that when people register for the forum they apply for their team's Usergroup, e.g. Team 1, Team 2, and so on.

So only people in the Team 1 usergroup can access the Team 1 forum for example, but every one can use the General forum.

It'd be a great way to avoid the hassle of people needing to use the GTP PM system and it would be great fun for constructors and drivers alike to meet in the "garages" before and after a race for intense discussion. People could pick up tunes from there too and such, it would just be easy and awesome.

Since I already did the admin. forum work for you, you can go ahead and start using this forum now or you can try and set it up yourself so you can be admin.

It'd be easy to work either way really, you don't need to be admin to change much, I can just make you a moderator.

As far as communication during a race goes, I don't think it's absolutely necessary at first. Most of the groundwork should be enough for the team to prep the drivers for them to set off in the race on their own. But then there's also the issue of the room limits, if there's 10 drivers for example, that's gonna be least ten supporting team members, and they all won't fit in the room so we've gotta drop any idea of trying to get live communication going.

Umm, there are three drivers per team, and some Constructors are also Drivers. :sly:

Otherwise, I like the idea of a forum dedicated specifically towards a constructor, personally, and it should probably either be called "- Team Garage" OR "- Team HQ."

Done.

And I like this idea, but... if we have enough drivers, I don't want to take spots in the lounge, during the race, to use for people who aren't driving. And a team might be at a disadvantage if their constructor can't be in the room. So I don't want to make this compulsory.

Since for whatever reason Vol has ignored my PM's I'll just go ahead and post it here:

Sorry, not ignoring, just haven't had a chance to work on it.

I don't like the big ad in the middle, but that comes from free forums. I know it is possible to set up little sub groups here at GTPlanet, and that might not be a bad idea. Another idea is to go back to my personal site and revamp an old forum I had there for my Eve corp: http://odndt.garris.us/forums/

Either way, yes, we need something other than PMs. I'm also a big fan of Google, but they still haven't really gotten the collaboration thing down, yet. Google Wave was teh lamez. I'm not sure about Google+ or Google hangouts, yet. But we can look into them.

Right now, we only have enough for two drivers per team.

At this very moment, with Zero, we have an extra driver, so we could have either four teams of two drivers and a fifth driver running independently, or three teams with two drivers and the forth team with a third driver (only two of them counting toward constructor's points).

It seems to make the most sense to keep the organizational aspects of this confined to :gtplanet:. We can create social groups for each team which you can lock down access to team members only. For race days, the teams can communicate via their choice of voice communication.

I'd not set up Social groups as Jordan will be removing them from GTPlanet in the near future. He has plans for 'something' to replace it, I'm just not sure what.

The Constructors could be responsible for creating and maintaining the Social group for their team. That way, if trades and Free Agents come into play, you can literally fire someone from the group page.:sly:

Sorry for jumping to the conclusion that there'll be teams of three. It's just because this seems to be a very active thread... It won't be impossible...

Anyways, dabney... brought up a good point; There are already social groups on GTPlanet. Let's just use those for now. No viruses, no 18+ advertisements, no 18+ pop-ups... It seems like the best idea.

Sorry I didn't quote the original dabney post... I posted this and then edited it.

I was actually considering Skype for this, since its free to have group voice calling and has easy text chatting abilities. I find the user groups here dull and useless.

I think Skype (or hangouts, or Ventrilo, or TeamSpeak) may be good for race time, but I still think there should be some sort of forum for teams between races.

Yeah, I would've suggested social groups too, but as others have noted, they're being removed, so it could work for the first season, but I would rather get set up with something that you plan on using for the foreseeable future rather than a placeholder.

But hey Vol of you have your own space then hosting your own phpBB forum for team meets would be ideal. The free forum I set up was just a proof of concept.

Link? First of heard of this.

Says there will also be plenty of notice before they do get removed.

Also, I think I would be interested in this. I sometimes have softball games on Tuesday's though so I will just have to confirm.

It does, it's just if you invest a lot of time and effort into building it up, moving it somewhere else could get painful. Depends on how much info you have to store/talk about I suppose.

I would be interested in driving in this, as well. D2 driver, DFGT. I'll have to get spousal permission to allocate another evening to racing, though. I'm also not sure if I have any way to chat over anything but the PS3 during a race. I guess it would depend on whether or not the Sony Stereo Headset is old mac compatible.

Pencil me in, I guess, but have an eraser on standby.

Okay, so I'll start tuning for the FD3S I'm running. I have a procedure (in a hospital) to go to, on Tuesday, but, I'll see if I can get a few RX-7s sent out to the people who want to try them out.

It just depends on how groggy, etc. I am from the anaesthetic (Schmerztablette?) whether I come or not. The schedule of the procedure won't conflict, it'll be the "squidgy biological bit behind the wheel." as Jeremy Clarkson said, testing the McLaren SLR...

For conformation, as of right now, are MR or RR cars allowed? Or is it only FR cars.

My 3 FD3S RX-7s are finished. The tune was simple, but secret.

I took the tune off, then took some photos of the cars. The cars look stunning. I'm highly pleased.

Anyways, I will speak with vol about the tune and the photos. If he allows them both, I will upload the photos. But, the tricks of my tune can't be found in any of the photos, so don't try to copy. ;)

If there's still room, I would like to throw my hat in the ring as a driver. I really like where this idea is going.

I've penciled you in.

I've penciled you in.

I don't mean to argue. I'd just like to draw attention to an error.

To be fair, you aren't the first person to ask about that. I guess I should've just left it in GT terms and put FR.

If there's still room, I would like to throw my hat in the ring as a driver.

I've put you on the list.

With our two maybes, we are up to 12, which is a great number. With four constructors, that gives us four teams of three drivers each.

The car regulations are set. The track schedule is set. So, do feel free to start working on cars.

Maybe by next week, we will start the draft.
