I drank VB when I was in Oz, but didn't like it. Sorry to be gross, but it had this aftertaste of bile that I just couldn't get past you know?! :( And in the UK it's pretty awful too.

No, when I was out there I drank, for my sins, Swan Lager. Which I liked, quite a lot!

Fair call on VB. I've always thought Tooheys had a better range - their New isn't much chop, but the Red was always good.

Swan Lager is an interesting story. Infamous businessman Alan Bond owned it for a while before his whole business went belly-up (due to creative accounting and a few optimistic acquisitions - hey, it was the late 80's - everyone was doing it).

This of course meant he went broke selling beer to Australians....

Victoria Bitter (VB) is generally the preferred brew, although I don't personally care for it - has an odd metallic taste, although it's better on tap.

It's only popluar in Victoria!!! It's made from dirty river water.....

XXXX all the way. The only beer to drink in Queensland.

Or maybe a Tooheys Daught!!!!

Beer, it's the nectar of the Gods!!!

It's ceratinly a taste that you need to acquire but once you have you'll never turn back.

Having been a hardened drinker for a number of years I should be able to comment on this from experience rather than hearsay!! Over a number of years you will through trial and error find a beer/s that will agree with you more than others. At the moment Stella Artois agree's with me. I can drink 6-10 pints and get absolutely pi$$ed as a fart and only have a minor to no hang over the next day. If I was to do exactly the same thing with Heinekin Export I would suffer from one of the worst hang overs of my life the next morning so I just don't drink the stuff. Just find a Beer you like and that won't try and kill you the next day and your set!!

beer is good
i like to drink carlton draught from the tap
carlton cold from a bottle
and sometimes vb from a throw down

but my all time favourite drink is johnnie walker blue label scotch whiskey.......mmm yummy

I really (!) can't believe that there are actually people who drink liquids like Heineken, Corona, Budweiser etc. without being forced to it.

This stuff does not only taste disgusting, it will also give you a headache after only 5 to 10 glasses of them...

Take it from a beer freak, living in beer-paradise :
1. Chimay Blue (9°)
2. Orval (tip : try to find bottles of over 10 years old*)
3. Westvleteren (8°) (only available in the abbey and in a limited number of specialised stores in Belgium)

Talking about lager : this largely depends on personal taste, but you can certainly exclude the big names such as Heineken, Stella Artois (even if Belgian), Bud etc.
Non-exhaustive list :
From Belgium : Jupiler / Maes / Bock Pils / ...
Others : Carlsberg (by far the best) / Becks / Asahi Super Dry / ...

A true recommendation :

www.orval.be

* I recently tasted one bottled in 1971 : beats the best champagne -> that's how you should drink it (the real old ones) : as an aperitive !

Gezondheid !

Man you do know your beers... But the best beer is still Heineken! And when I'm drunk enough, I switch to the Smirnoff Ice or Bacardi Breezers! But hey, everybody's got their own favorites!

Cheers!
