Some drifting Q's...

Hey,

Is it just me or is drifting like 100,000x more fun/rewarding than actually racing?

I'm fairly new to it so I have some questions like does it matter so much how fast you drift as how well you drift?

Well, as pertaining to how clean and consistant you're lines are.

As for this whole drift 'racing' thing, how does that work? Any rules according to that?

Also, I use a standard DualShock2 controller. I have a mad catz MicroCON but it doesn't compare at all. I'm curious if people use the d-pad or analog stick to control the front wheels during a drift line.

Personally I have found the analog stick is great for just tapping to keep my line good d-pad works best for precise driving (racing with actual grip).

I've been learning on Midfield. Is there a better track to practice with more complete technique?

I've seen some crazy video's where people's tyres are squeeling non stop, but I'm wondering if it you really have to drift the WHOLE TIME.

Oh btw. My car:

Toyota Altezza RS200 (Blue Mica + 12th Enkei rims from the left)

Drifting on the Complex String course is REALLY good practice because of all the different types of turns. With ur car, u can drift the ridiculously long turns =D

Yeah,

The RS200 was a pretty smooth car to begin with.
Just testing waters with this whole drift idea.

What could I do to it to make it a little more controllable in tighter areas.

I seem to spin alot more often with this zero TCS stuff...

[edit]Oh crap I forgot to add several key elements. See Setup[/edit]

Less horsepower?

It seems all you Initial D addicts prefer all the oldschool cars in the game, but what about the new ones. It's not like they can be worse now can then.

Those cats really need to stop pretending to be anime characters...

Btw, what is up with the 80's car bias.

I haven't even seen Initial D.

If someone want to sell me their set of dvds (even if it is only Japanese with english subtitles) I will buy if for $100usd shipped.

I rented Initial D from Blockbuster. It was cool. Im drifting the AE86 now and i love it. No Turbo though, gotta keep the power at lower and mid RPM also. I use the stock suspension and stock differential.

im working at mastering the S13 at 450hpbut the car is much more hefty than the AE86. I think next ill try the FC Rx7.

I seem to drift my best with the RX7 LM Car. I did start out with a 240SX K's Aero. That was a great learners car. I've gotten better but I still need work on some drifting. Midfield is a good track but i agree with practicing on the Complex String, Everything is there for you to drift..

This is what I did, and lots of other people suggest:
Stock FD3S (3rd Gen RX-7)
Drivetrain mods dor engine response, flywheel, clutch, so on.
Sim tyres.
Set TCS and ASM to zero.
This should make the perfect drift car, super smooth, you can drift super long turns, it works out good. You dont need more hp, either, just drivetrain mods, and weight reduction if you want, but its not nessecary.

A stripped down version of the first post with the things I'm still up in the air about.
