Some modding questions....

Firstly, does anyone know how much it costs for neon undercarriage lighting?

Secondly, what is the best and cheapest way to learn how an engine works (as in, how to modify it without causing irreparable, ultra-expensive damage)? Should I beg a mechanic to take me on as an "apprentice" of sorts?

Thirdly, what is everyone's opinion on decals? I plan on adding some once I get a new spoiler and have my Trueno repainted, but I'm not sure which kind I should put on, or how many. I don't want it to look tacky.

Finally, does anyone have any idea where I can find the manual for a 92 Trueno?

Various lights kits

If I were you I would try to find some type of automechanics class to enroll in. That would teach you a lot. If you just want to know how an engine works you might be able to find out at this place. What kind of modifications do you want to do to the motor in the Trueno? Internal stuff?

Decals? That really depends. I hate crap like huge window banners, and decals for stuff that you've bought for the car if the company you bought it from isn't sponsoring you, or giving you **** for cheaper for advertising for them.

I looked for a manual, but couldn't find one. I'll let you know if I do, though. Are you looking for the original owner's manual?

Thanks for the link, helps alot. :D

I know how an engine works, but I want to know how an engine works. I mean...I want to be able to confidently screw around under the hood. Right now, I don't even know where to find the spark plugs! I'd like to be able to do complex tuning by myself, and be able to find and fix most problems without having to go to a mechanic.

And yes, I'm looking for the owner's manual for the Trueno. I want to know everything about her that I can. I appreciate the help; I can't find a manual anywhere. -_-

Night..There is no real way to "Confidently screw around under the hood".....All you have to do is remember how you took something off..And you'll be A-OK...back in the day I had NO clue about cars what so ever..But I dropped my tranny took it appart replaced 2 synchro's the final drive gear and installed a limited slip differential all on basic "Hey this looks like it goes here, and I remember that this went right here"....And as for Decals..all I havta say is if it matches the car..Cause I remember this one civic in a magazine...No crazy bodykit, no crazy wheels..but it did have a full body decal of Gran Turismo and those 2 stripes above the GT..Except they were all either grey or a goldish color..And it looked freakin awesome...Some of the nicest decal work I've seen..That or the "Chrome paper" with clear coat over it..That looks cool too

MIT (Manukau Institute of Technology) has Automotive courses, but thats in South Auckland, and it would be quite a slog to get there from where you are....

Thats the only Tech Institute I can think of around Auckland.. Maybe a local college has a Beginner Auto night class thing?

Some might say a super slog, in fact!

Sounds like you should go buy the book called Auto Repair For DUMMIES.:P It really would help out, though. It's 567 pages, and it'll show you how to do pretty much anything, and everything.👍

Well firstly our lovely government is in the process of making all undercarriage lighting illegeal. Go Labour! Currently guys with them are getting harrassed big time so maybe it is not a good choice unless you buidling a show car only.

You want to learn alot about engines mate. Yep school is the way. Also start spending some time at high quality tuners and engine builders. See if you can even get a part time job sweeping the floors at one stuff like that.

As far as manuals if Repco does not have one, check here http://www.jpnz.co.nz . They are located in New Lynn.

Depending on the under bodies I've seen them from 80 bucks to well over 300. Check eBay to!

I just mess around under the hood or ask friends who know.

Decals are ok as long as you put em on right.

You douchebag, Doug.:irked: I said it'll show you how to do pretty much anything, and everything.

It tells you how to make sure ABS is working properly. If it isn't working properly it suggests you take it to a professional who specializes in ABS to get it fixed. IMO anyone, who isn't a pro, who tries to fix something as complex as ABS is a complete idiot.

Replace an AT? No, Doug. This is Auto Repair For DUMMIES, not Major Car Repairs That Should Only Be Done By Professionals.

Install a DVD player? This is Auto Repair For Dummies, not Bling Blingin' For Dummies. Installing a DVD player has nothing to do with repair, does it?

Tinting windows? See above.

I wouldn't recomend tinting your windows by yourself unless you've got someone with you who's done it before or you really understand how to do it because it isn't hard to get bubbles. And when you do, you're car will look like ****. It's kind of funny when you take notice on how many people have screwed up their cars when you're driving down the road.. :P

I'll have to look for that book, sounds like something I need, hehe. :D

And as for NZ gov't intervention....

I'm appalled at the continuous and glaring stupidity of New Zealand government in general. Not just in the area of automobiles, though that's a big one.

I know there's a growing movement by the various annoyed immigrants to start a political party to take over the government. South Africans, Americans, British, Indians, even Asians.

But that's a topic for a different forum, heh.

Pretty much anything, fine, but then you added 'and everything,' which is all-inclusive, including the things I mentioned.

'If ABS is not working properly, a light in the display will come on, similar to this: ((ABS)). Take car to dealer immediately.'

Whoa! I just wrote the first four chapters. Where's my $8 million?

Install a DVD player? This is Auto Repair For Dummies, not Bling Blingin' For Dummies. Installing a DVD player has nothing to do with repair, does it?

Does a PlayStation 2?

What about repairing the DVD player that's already in your car?

Tinting windows? See above.
Since when is getting window tint bling-blinging? I remember my mother putting window tint on her 1993 Isuzu Rodeo S in 1994. Were we bling-blinging? You're crazy.

Fine! I take back the 'and everything' part!

I was referring to the 'has nothing to do with repair, does it?' part when I said 'See above,' not the bling blingin' part.

Oh, and you wrote the last part of chapter 10.:P Where's your $8 million? Probably underneath the ground in a puddle of oil, or invested in your 5 houses, and 12 new cars.

Ha!

So you take that back too? Ha!

I'm saving up, actually, for ear correction surgery. So just the two houses and four cars for now.

You've never seen the stickers on the back of cars that say "OBX" that are all the rage in eastern North Carolina?

As far as I remember I've never seen one of those, or even heard of that OBX. What is it exactly?

It's a trendy gen-X designation for the Outer Banks in North Carolina - these things are really popular there. Lots of North Carolinian cars have them on their bumpers.
