I dunno, I honestly think the sounds, for the most part, are spot on, there are some cars in GT5P that are a bit ropey, but on the whole I think they are realistic, not over the top Forza or NFS style.

And road/rolling noise is a major pain in the ass if you have some sort of Earthquke/Buttkicker device

I didn't know the sounds in GT5:P sucked until I played Shift. But here is a comparison of FM3 vs GT5:P sound.

I hope they fix this glaring problem in the final version.

Both are wrong here in my opinion, because to me it looks like Forza has its roof up but sounds like the roof is down. And GT5P is vice versa.

My DC5 when stock had a more pronounced Vtec change over point than what is heard in Prologue, but none the less pretty authentic.

To me Prologue seems to have more realistic sound from inside the cabin if not a little under done, where as on Forza it's over done.

Somewhere between the two would sound more realistic IMHO.

The problem with those Engine sounds are the deep tones they are missing, th S2000 has all the raw rattle and noise of the exhaust but misses the deep Intake sound.

Obviously it sounds a hell of alot better in surround sound with a Sub Woofer and an LFE device, that was captured in two channel stereo !

Well, of course a surround setup and especially a subwoofer offer you more opportunities to alter the sound to your likings. Nevertheless, while GT5P probably offers a whole lot of very authentic sounds, it misses a certain liveliness a lot of other games deliver. The arguably "thin" nature of the sounds has been brought up repeatedly as well.

And since Polyphony wouldn't need to sacrifice any of the authenticity when making their sounds "meatier", I don't really see why they don't do it.

I hope they add mechanical sound and effects in GT5.
That would add soooo much to the realism.

Yep, thats a must.

There were some drivetrain noise in GT4, especially in the race cars, but it was very hard to hear, and very understated.

So basically, the sounds should be realistic enough that in a surround sound system + a G25/27 cockpit, we should really feel as if we're driving the car. Until then, neither game would sound good.

With a 5.1/7.1 GTP sounds really damn good, if you are judging sound off of your stock tv i can understand some of the cars sounding a bit weak. when i got my 5.1 the sounds really came alive. For example the R8 sounds really weak on my tv speakers however with the SUB ohh baby!!! Gives me chills just thinking about it. Even the stock turbo spool i can hear alot more with my surround sound system. 5.1/7.1 is a must when playing GT IMO
