SPACE ENGINE: Best Thing Ever. (0.97/V2 Released!)

Gave it a try, but anytime I get close to a planet or star, my system slows way down. Anyone with tips on graphics settings for slow systems?

Gave it a go yesterday.
Missed a couple of targets because I was traveling to fast.
Did not fiddle with the config yet so it crashes alot.
But it does looks stunning.

R1600Turbo, try lowering the Landscape LOD scale in the graphics settings.

Flex0r, you can click a star/galaxy and double tap "g" and it will take you to whatever you have selected. If it's a planet then you can hold "shift" down and double tap "g" and you will go to the ground level of the planet. :)

It is :( I can't think of anything else that you can change to help it as generating the landscape and textures is pretty intense stuff. Maybe a LOD -5 or -10 would help :P

When I go to planets my PC slows down quite a lot with the LOD at 1 and then I switch it to 2 for screenshots and my PC just goes "I hate you :grumpy:" then slowly loads the landscape

My Laptop must want to bash me over the head with a floppy disk then!

(Nice Earth-Moon analog by the way!)

Imagine wandering that lonely rock watching the ocean of stars....

Thanks Southend Rage, and thanks for starting the thread, wouldn't have known about it, its my sort of thing and I'm really enjoying using the sim.

I'm so happy (and sorry) that i've got someone hooked on this like i've been, it means alot! xD (To know i'm not the only addict...) :P

Sadly, my shots will never look as pretty as yours do! I can still try though!
It's just that the terrain is so much more detailed! It really does S-E justice.

Here's a couple more of my (relatively) ugly shots. :indiff:

Very good shots

Last night I went to M82, Messier galaxy. Press F3 and type NGC 3034 to find it. There's some others close by too, very busy place.

Aww Shucks.

Search for 'Hoag's Object' it's a pretty unique galaxy.

Also I find photos from the Magellanic Clouds are cool because you can see the whole Milky Way in the sky, we sure do live in a particularly beautiful Spiral Galaxy!
Another thing to look for is bright stars with an asteroid field close to the star itself, you'll find you can see the asteroids from any planet orbiting.

It looks particularly spectacular, and if you speed up time, you'll see them flying round, since a planet further way will have the sun in horizon for hours, while the asteroids usually spin round the sun very quickly.

(The pic above is an example) But I think a close asteroid field is rarer around giant stars as such.

Thank you southend Rage for introducing me to this great software

I already did that. What I got was each star/solar system I visited was blank, four in a row. Is this a game fault or something? I was going to ask in a thread on the official forums. It seemed as though Hoag's object wasn't finished even though I assumed every star/galaxy would have some procedural generation.

It's taking a while for the new update to come, so here's a few more pics.

It'd hard to take pretty pictures of green planets, but I gave it a go. :)

Back before Christmas I heard 0.97 would be a new years release.... I guess there's still half of January left!

Weird works fine for me, but i've had that problem before.

I think it's got something to do with the procedural not switching on when you go from outside the galaxy to inside, or the memory running out.

Sometimes just going through the generation options and ticking the boxes off & on again kicks it back into generating bodies, but remember, not all stars actually have planets.

BTW, that green planet is your proof, it's in Hoag's object. So it should work.

Thanks for the clarification, I'll visit the galaxy again soon.

If you've got time, is there plans for rocks?

Another video I made.

Bloody hell that's awesome chromatic.

Have you dl'ed some extra for such detailed grounds or are they default?

Not downloaded anything but I made some changes to one of the files. Info is one the SE forum but you need a decent GPU.

Well, I did some more optimising and managed some higher detail too, but i'll never make videos.
I'm pretty proud to get this out of non-dedicated 256mb video and 2gb system memory.

Interesting and nice pics there mate. Where's that green planet?

Where are you guys finding all these worlds? O.o

I haven't been able to find any...

Huh, have you looked around in options and checked any 'procedural' boxes?

They should be orbiting most stars, just saying. Maybe you havn't the memory for S-E.

Oh and chromatic, it wouldn't be much use for me to tell you where my individual planets are, since I've edited my universe config file. Sorry.
Lovely pics though, I should visit the terrestrial worlds more often

Ominous, Huh?
