Space In General

SpaceX updates:
  • Starlink launch has been scrubbed until Tuesday.
  • Saocom launch is still on schedule currently for today.
  • Starship hop is GO and you can follow along here:

Saocom 1B launch going off shortly. Weather is still iffy. This mission will actually do a dog-leg maneuver off the coast and head south towards Cuba. First time this has been done from Florida since the late 60's. The booster will return to dry land.

It still incredible to see the booster land with such grace.
The vapor through the grid fins was amazing.

Starship SN6 150m hop may happen on Thursday. I will post stream links when available. SN7.1 (tank only with new alloy) will test in the days afterwords.

As always you can follow along with their progress via the 24/7 live stream below.

I totally understand why they are doing that, and it's well done and impressive. But man... that is such an inefficient way to move a few feet.
It's all about learning how to get it off the ground, and back on it. Fine tuning the landing accuracy, etc.

SN7.1 popped last night. No word yet on pressure level. Skip to 2:10 if you just want to see it explode.

Why do they call it a "starship" anyway? It's not likely that they'll be going anywhere near any stars any time in the near future except maybe the Sun.

Kind of like calling a riverboat ferry an "ocean liner" or something.

Because it's cool?

Or a level two autonomy driver assist "autopilot".

Cool as the whole SpaceX programme is, when i see images of the ships and the locations of the test pads and production facilities (exteriors of) i can't but help think that its all a bit Zefram Cochrane. Does Elon Musk like getting pissed on moonshine and dancing to bad rock and roll too?

Considering how much that facility has grown and the leaps in progress they have made in only one year, in ~5 years it's going to be incredible.

I would be unsurprised if this was an entirely deliberate image.
