The new truck's pretty cool. Slow, but unstoppable and can carry a full 8-point load of lumber!

The little 4x4 is pretty cool too. Light and good wheel articulation to get over all the logs that are scattered all over the map!

The logs on this map are so frustrating, but they do at least provide an interesting challenge for the little 4x4. The new truck is an absolute monster though, it'll pretty much go anywhere!

Yeah, I found myself constantly winch-release-winch-release-winch-release to pull myself over everything. Ended up on my roof a couple of times with over-ethusiastic winchery!

I almost did the same, luckily I managed to stop winching before the truck rolled. I've just reached the garage in the north-east to unlock it, I will then be off to explore and reveal the rest of the map.

After ending up stalled on my side twice in the A-969 while trying to beat the map with one star, I opted for the C-256. :lol: I moved one of the garage trailers with that, then collected a D-class (lucky roll!) and used that one for much of the boulder- and log-crawling, together with the C-6317, which is definitely a handy truck. :)

...So, I tried the new map. And picked the LuAZ. But not not from the DLC - from Steam Workshop. This model is based on the dev's one, but has better textures (with manufacturer badge visible and detailed interior), reworked physics (more realistic suspension), different sound (the author says he owns a real LuAZ and he recorded it himself - and it's different from the ZAZ 968, although it has the same engine - probably because of drivetrain noise) and 3 colors to choose from.

It's the first time I drove a LuAZ in a game, and it's very fun. Even 40 hp seem enough for this light thing to rove around and get over the lying logs.

Also... What I like about mods is detailed cockpits. Unfortunately, the modeled gauges don't work and there's no way the modders can fix it. The devs could do some work on this.

Ural 5557 - a variant of the Ural 4320 (present in the game as "C-4320"), designed for agricultural use. It has different wheels and tires for better traction on soft soils (in real life, at least).

Too bad the game doesn't have a photo mode, or at least an option to disable HUD for screenshots. But I tried cropping and editing some images. It kills the resolution though...

I just want to let everyone know that there was this hot discussion about this game and its not a true mud truck sim as the physic simulation is not like real trucks in real life so one of the poster was upset. The driving mechanics like the gears is not the same as in real life that is what they were complaining about. If you compared this with project cars everything in that racing game is how it would closely be in real life but not for mudtires. :(

I don't think you'd ever seriously compare this game with Project Cars! It's a very different beast and all the better for following its own path.

Maybe it's not a perfect simulation, but it does a good job of making you work hard to make progress through tough terrain, at a pace that's still tolerable for a game. I've done a bit of off road driving on mud, rocks, rivers and desert and I wasn't offended by any of it - I'm no truck driver though, so I may be wrong! I've also driven a racing car and the intensity of the real life experience is quite different to what you get in any racing game.

Hopefully someone leaks the info before the articles come out next week. It's kind of lame they talked about all the stuff today, but need to wait till next week to actually release it
One week later and still nothing. Hopefully some news will appear today or, at least, one of their community managers will say something.

According to whoever runs their Twitter account it should still be coming this week:

Good to know. There's also an update from their CM:
"The embargo lifted Wednesday, journalists who discussed with the team are now free to publish their articles. But we haven't seen many articles yet" (Link)

Well, here's holding out for some news today then. I'm actually really curious as to what the expansion will entail.

Me too. But if Focus Home/Saber don't release any statement and journalists don't publish any article, then we're left in the dark. The whole situation is surreal.

  • There's another free DLC in the works, set to be released soon;
  • Focus Home is currently talking with American manufacturers to include fully licensed vehicles in the USA DLC;
  • Expansion will be centered around North American locations/environments; planned to be released in late summer or early fall;
  • GOTY version after the release of USA expansion;
  • Saber Interactive is currently working on a Switch version and It's progressing nicely;

VXR
It will be a wonderful mix, having Russia and the USA. Deep contrasts, but very much welcome.
Hopefully the US expansion offers the chance to shift something other than logs. Would be nice to have to move some crazy huge loads to remote locations in an Ice Road Trucker style or delicately maneuver big bits of aeroplane through a village!

From Focus' community manager:
"We plan on posting today's community update at 4pm, which is when we post most Spintires: MudRunner announcements"
I think we'll get some news and details about the upcoming free DLC.

Edit #1: Here it is:

February Community Update

Hello all!

As was stated in the last update post where we announced The Valley, we're going to be doing a monthly community update for Spintires: MudRunner, to let you know what we're working on, what to expect soon, and some other cool things!

To start, it's not been that long since The Valley released on February 13th, but we're very happy to see so many players enjoying the map and the three new vehicles that we added to the game at this time. What has been your favourite part of The Valley so far?

We have a little treat for you all today, in addition to all the news below. We've noticed that some players have been making their own navigation maps and that these have been made using screenshots of the fully explored map screen, or in some cases hand drawn. We understand that this is something that many of you would like to do, and so we've packaged all the map images, in high resolution, for you to print off and make navigation maps with. Please enjoy!

The maps can be found here: https://we.tl/IYVl6j93B6

Now, the bit that you've all been waiting for, what we're working on! There's actually a lot going on with Spintires: MudRunner right now, all of it in various stages of development, and not much of it that we can actively talk about at the moment. With that said, we can specifically say some things that we're working on and aim to have out this year.

We're currently working on an additional update coming out early this year that we currently expect to include workshop map support, as well as some other cool new features!

As well as this, yes, MudRunner USA (work-in-progress title) is currently in development, and we aim to have this out this year. It will, of course, be set in the United States. We understand that a large part of the Spintires: MudRunner community are based in the United States, and would like to support them with content that is a little bit more familiar. We're also looking into licensing official vehicles for this.

In addition to MudRunner USA, we're continuing to explore the options of adding mods to the console versions of the game. We love the modding communities for Spintires: MudRunner, and thank them for their enthusiasm in continuing to help us make Spintires: MudRunner the best game it can be. We continue to currently look into the possibility to add some of our favourite mods into the console versions of Spintires: MudRunner as DLC.

Finally, a Nintendo Switch version of Spintires: MudRunner is currently being worked on. We don't have much more to say about this right now, but it is coming, and we'll have more news about it in the future!

In conclusion, we're working on a lot of different things currently, all of which will come later in the year! We'll have more news on these individually as the year progresses.

Thanks, and talk to you soon!

Edit #2:
  • MudRunner USA is "currently a DLC, but as it's still very heavily in development, nothing is set in stone";
  • "The maps in the workshop will be party of the next DLC, but we don't have a date for that yet";
  • Someone asked if this is going to be a paid DLC and the community manager said "All those kinds of details are still to be decided".

Its good, just getting back into it...shame you cannot remove the hud..grrrrr ps4 here.

Also if anyone knows, when you complete things, get further into it, can you say disable the time cycling etc, i hate that in games that have that, it always seems to stay dark far longer than daylight.

I think on the normal, non-hardcore mode, there's an option somewhere to "skip night". It's part of the challenge on hardcore mode though - I just try and do the easy bits like popping for fuel during the dark phase.

Do the challenges first as they teach you handy things that you can use in the single player mode. I jumped straight into single player and struggled a bit to begin with.

And another thing: be prepared to lose a lot of time playing this game!

This. Mudrunner isn't a game that likes to be rushed! Slow and steady is usually the best way to make progress; better to crawl through the mud with steady throttle in 1st than to nail it and then have to bring a second truck to tow you out.

Also, the map is invaluable on levels with water. You can use it to plot routes across easily using the red depth markers as a guide.
