Spoiled on Pro Physics

I finally started to get the hang of Pro Physics - I mean, I couldn't handle the cars at all at first except with std physics, but I stuck with it and now I can at least finish in the top 3 in most events, with pro physics.
So just for a change I started playing NFS Shift for awhile last night - I haven't played it since I switched to pro physics in GT5 - and NFS seemed like a joke. I mean, it's so much more of a challenge to keep a car under control in GT5 - in NFS you can yank the wheel and gun the throttle any time you want. The physics are like the arcade racing games in movie theatres. After 3 minutes I popped out the disc and went back to GT5. The difference is unbelievable.

I actually felt spoiled playing rFactor Pro and then coming to GT5:P, which on pro is still rough, but not as demanding as on rFactor. I now use rFactor for any practice that I need to do on the GT5:P courses (downloaded them all except Fuji highspeed, if anyone has it for rFactor please PM me) when my girlfriend is asleep in our room which is where my Playstation is and also when at "work" with my laptop and Sixaxis. ;)

Not so strange is it? SHIFT is not a sim and is not trying to be it either..I think SHIFT has good physics for a arcade game.

Shift is nice, but the graphics are cartoonish compared w/GT5P, and the physics are way too forgiving - that's except for that huge dead spot in the center of the wheel where you have zero feel and control.

On the other side, GT5P is missing the damage model. That's a gigantic hole, IMO. You can just ram into anyone or anything and just keep goin' like there are no consequences of crashing a car at 165 mph.

Now, I was thinking, that NFS Porsche Unleashed was the best NFS release ever - far more interesting and well-realized than Shift, and even with better physics and graphics, and that was eons ago.

Well...I was one of those guys who always felt pro physics were a gimmick....I drive a Porsche regularly at Sebring, Homestead and PBIR and my race sorted 300+hp car performs very close to standard physics....but I've never actually driven a 600hp+ car either....

That being said, I now have 2 of every car and 2M credits and last night I put the tuned Z06 in pro and started fooling around in A class races...dayem, it's a whole new game....

Yeah - it's a whole different game.
To tell you the truth I'm glad to hear that standard physics are more true-to-life than pro physics. I've never driven a real race car at 150mph, so I wouldn't know. But most of the cars are unmanageable with pro physics, with several exceptions. So I'd hate to see what would happen to those cars (and drivers) if real cars behaved that way.

But, the truth is (and don't excommunicate me for merely stating the obvious), GT5 is a video game, not real life, and pro physics are just a way of turning up the difficulty level a notch. If a game gets too easy it gets boring. If you are winning every event with ease, and continue to enjoy doing so, then have fun. But if you need a bit of a challenge to feel the adrenaline rush - coupled with a good chance flying off the track and finishing dead last - then pro physics are the way to go.

Having said that, the only cars that I seem to be able to keep on the track at all, with pro physics, are the Amuse and the Ferrari California.

Oh, I totally agree....

Winning every race easily was no longer any fun, that's why I took the plunge and went Pro.....

BTW, I've been using s2k2's pro tuned Vette, with some minor alterations, and can get Golds in the A class races but not yet in S-7 or 10....

Well, I tied S7 and S10 tonite w/pro, and could not quite make it around the tracks - so I switched to std and got 1st in S7 on the 1st try, and a 3rd and a 2nd in S10 in just several tries. First time around S10 took me a week. So driving pro takes you up the learning curve - then if you go back to std once in awhile, the improvement in driving technique is very pronounced.

Went Pro on GT5-P a little over 6 months ago,

I am not gonna switch to anything else after this... Standard is for kids ;)

Am just looking forward to GT5 new driving physics... (which should be similar to the GT5 TT Demo... ) A real improvement...

The fun resides where the difficulty is.

oh man those time trial physics were incredible...never in a game did u honestly appreciate how awesome RWD could be, and now that everything i analog, slight inputs make huge differences...i drive on pro, just cuz I don't want to be a panzy. But if u switch back, there is a massive improvement in ur game.

yes, driving rwd-cars on pro is hard, felt like a noob, trying it out
actually i'm training it on awd-cars with a g25,maybe i got it befor gt5

Well....

I can turn consecutive 1:02's in 800pp at HSR in standard....but I still can't get a lap in on pro.....

G27....

EDIT: Hmmmm...I set the wheel sensitivity down to 40...big difference...turning 1:05's.....

After countless laps in the GT5 TT Demo I went back to GT5P, and with cars that I was never consistent with or had problems driving were far easier to drive then I ever remember. I would always advise players to master the difficult cars on Pro phyics, it makes driving all of the other so much easier. This method is the best way to learn IMO!

With pro, smoothness and conistancy is key. You cant expect to jump in and pull blinding lap times. Where as if you try to be smooth, get consistant lap times, you will be rewarded with speed after time. Take it slow, keep it on the track and it will all come to you.

911_RS, if you want a good 800pp S2000 tune for HSR drop me a PM 👍 Will be glad to help you out. Best lap of 02.5 in free run and can do consistant sub 03's, on pro.
