I think I gotz some blackmail material then  unless you edit it out of the post I had. . . :D

I like all the styling of the other new BM's, uh. This one, is, uh, uhm, I, err.

Don't like it.

But what sort of cars is it meant to compete with? Hatches like the Focus, Seat leon?

I don't mind it, better than Mr Bangle's other efforts IMO. IIRC it's main competitor should be the Merc A-Class.

It says there is a two door version as well. I wonder what the engine options will be. It would be odd if they made an M car out of it, I mean they already made an M1 so what would they call it?

Yes, it is very "BMW-esque", and follows the current trend. But what is this? It doesn't look like any BMW badge I've ever seen.

They just cover up the BMW logo so that normal people (IE: Not car people) wont know what it is. I'd be willing to bet the kidney grill and the logo on the front are covered too.

Not to start a war or anything but if you look at the side image, it doesnt seem to look like Bimmer lights at all. Also the grill seem to stick out to much. I dont know, its not a very good angle, but it just doesnt seem like a BMW to me.

Well theres an X5 in the background, a 3 series and what looks like a porsche cayenne in the front. All germans, I think an opel would look out of place.

There's a 5-series, X5, Cayenne, and Touareg out there. I would assume the 5-series is possibly a testbed for the AWD model.

Definitely a BMW, the concave-convex transition at the hipline is very Bangle-esque. The front 1/4 panel turn light and the concave back are also typical of other BMWs.
And they should cram it full of M3 333hp six, give it AWD, and let it loose on WRXes and Evos.

That doesn't look like the new 1-Series at all, but the rather the forthcoming E90 3-Series Touring (wagon).

It's too big to be the 1. Look at the lower front dam --it looks like the 3-series sport package airdam.

EDIT: Never mind. I'm wrong.

Here are some clearer, but photoshoped pics of the 1 below.

I'd ruther have that hot Golf that was posted earlier, but 5-doors are cool. The rear door on the Bimmer looks a little iffy on usability, and overall the Volks is just cleaner and meaner.

Honestly, the Golf V is a much better looking car than the 1. I'm guessing BMW is convinced the 1 can manage okay with the Golf around due to the drive train differences.... not to mention the badge.

And they're probably right. Though people stayed away from the 318i in droves.

Erm.....
Why would an Opel look out of place among German cars?

You do know Opel is originaly a German brand right?;

1838, Rüsselsheim, Germany: Adam Opel is born. At the age of 25, Adam Opel opened a factory producing sewing machines. In 1885, the factory was selling assembled bicycles.
Adam Opel died in 1895 when the company was the European leader in sewing machines and producing 2,000 a year.
The sons of Adam Opel (Wilhelm, Heinrich, Friedrich and Ludwig) expanded to the automotive industry and the first automobile was produced in 1899.
In 1902, a 10/12 hp model with a 2-cylinder engine, the first complete model from Opel. In 1909, Opel introduced a compact two-seater which was especially liked by doctors and became known as the "Doktorwagen” (Doctor’s Car).
General Motors Corporation purchased the company in 1929. In 1935 at the Berlin Auto Show, Opel presented the first volume-produced German car with an integral all-steel frame and body, the Olympia 1.3 liter.
Following WWII, Opel employees began to rebuild the destroyed Rüsselsheim plant. The Blitz truck, and later, the Olympia and Kapitan were introduced. In 1962, Opel began a new era with the Senator and Monza models in 1977 in a come back to the executive class segment
