More photos of standards from a great distance. Take a picture close up, you'll see the big flaws very easily. Even so already in that Lister I can see the awful textures and low poly body. Just comparing it to this model from GTR2 (released in 2006) that doesn't look that great itself you can see much more detail.

Just look at the windows and body detail.

Whilst it is less effecient in the long run, since at some point you HAVE to do a new model and any time spent on the standard is essentially wasted what they've done to the standard cars wouldn't have taken THAT long. Mostly all they've done is cleaned up the roughest edges, made shutlines more pronounced than a single black line and updated some shoddy textures.

Sure it wouldn't have been a five minute job but they haven't spent as long on them as you might think.

It's still time not spent on making actual Premium cars, though - and there are quite a few "touched up" Standards such that we might have missed out on the E30 M3. :P

Well, no, I don't know how long they did spend doing this, either, but it would have been longer than if they'd made those exact meshes from scratch. There's a difference between making the shutlines more "pronounced", i.e. in the texture, and actually cutting the mesh up into its parts (body panels) and making it all "water-tight" again, by the way. Since the PS2 textures are still used in areas where their detail is not replaced by geometry, they would have to be re-mapped to the new mesh, as well.

It would make more sense to re-model the exterior from scratch and not bother with the interior. It'd give a much better result for maybe double the work (I don't know how involved the light clusters are, so that's an over estimation - if I'm right.) They'd outwardly be Premiums, obviously without an interior (which is the main drawback when driving Standards).

I think the fact that people go through GT taking pictures of standards, trying to make them look as good as possible to justify their existence in the game tells the tale itself.

Here, I can see more detail in the building behind the car (100ft away) than the car 3 feet in front of the camera.
I guess if you squint hard, ignore the background and shy away from the blemishes, maybe you could convince yourself it really doesn't look bad, maybe even borderline good.
Now look at the building in the background's extra detail. ;)

Ugly or not, i'm having a blast with the Focus ST. My god, it's awesome for 450pp with sports tires. It was good on GT5, it's marvelous on GT6.

I modded for GTR2 some Race Cars like a Lister Storm GTL, Lotus Elise GT1, Porsche 993 GT1and a Nissan GTP ZX Turbo.

I think I found the ultimate way to see just how upgraded a standard is, go to photo travel and turn just side lights on, if they are almost fully premium besides interior the headlights won't turn on, A such examples are the 240ZG (HS30) and the Isuzu Piazza, and all miatas

I request the Suzuki Alto for those edits.

Pretty please.

edit: another good one would be a standard with a Forza5 car side by side, racing, camera somewhat close.

Really had no idea the S4 got such a treatment, because front jaggies. And it's gold because i used to have one and we repainted it such (a '98 A4, though.)

And aside from RUFs, we have the great Jag. Now if we can get the lights to work like a premium..
