Hate it without watching already. I am a HUGE Star Trek fan. And the "reboot" is the worst thing to ever happen to Star Trek. However, I will say that as individual films, they are good. But they are not Star Trek. No no no...

We'll I've never been a Star Trek fan and I'm a huge fan of JJ Abrams. So you can guess what I think of these movies. :)

BTW: I love them.

Huge fan here, and how was the reboot the worst thing that happened? Honestly, probably the best thing that happened, since it made since how they rebooted it for the most part, and they casted it fairly well.

Seriously, defend yourself.

I've never like Star Trek, but I did like the '09 film so I'll give this one a chance as well.👍

I liked the reboot, thought it was entertaining, but I definitely see why the hardcore Trekkies call it "MTV Trek" etc... The storyline didn't have the big metaphorical issues that Roddenberry used to be known for, although who knows? Maybe they will flesh out the 2nd one and it'll please everyone!

I really enjoyed the reboot the first time I watched it.

And the second.

But since then it's gone downhill badly.

The entire mind-meld sequence makes me want to throw kittens into spike pits. As do the good/bad black holes, the red matter McGuffin and everything apart from the casting. I hope they let someone with Trek experience write and direct and don't let JJ *lens flare* Abrams have free reign again.

I've just watched the first one for the 2nd time. I'll not watch it again.

Yesterday I watched (for the first time) the "Reboot" one. I didn't know anything about the movie, so I just thought we were presented with a 3rd generation crew. And it was nice to be surprised.

(didn't like to see Uhura kissing Spock though ... a bit lame but whatever, she's Capt. Nyobe from the Matrix, I'll give her permission to be sexy everywhere, even as Uhura without the afro hairstyle :P )

About the technicalities (red matter, black holes) I don't even care.

About "old Spock" being in the same galaxy, same system, same planet, same latitude, same longitude, and even SAME CAVE as "new Kirk" when he gets booted from the Enterprise by "New Spock" ... made me chuckle, but I just grabbed more peanuts and drank more beer (not a popcorn-cola guy) and enjoyed the show.

Immediately after I had this urge to re-watch the entire series (I have it on DVD) so I saw the first movie also. I shouldn't have done it. Seriously lacking a lot of everything, and I do understand how old that movie is, but there simply is no PACE in that movie. V'ger being helped by a machine planet (Cybertron?)and returning home is/was a nice idea to start with but .... I'm with daan, don't plan to watch it again. Will go on to Wrath of Khan now, I just hope my youth's memories don't keep being shattered

So much negativity! :P

I actually like the lens flare... :nervous:

I question the sanity that this board has sometimes.

Put it into this perspective, the only reason why the old films got stale is because of the target audience. Abrams actually broadened the target audience of the franchise by putting less emphasis on science and more on entertainment. It has worked so far seeing as the general audience as watched the film more often than Star Trek fans, which might seem like a mirror mirror situation, but in truth, that franchise needed to be less focused.

Niobe = Jada Pinkett Smith
Uhura = Zoe Saldana

You may remember Zoe from Avatar:

Hmmmm.... what does that remind me of?
Worse, it's INCEPTION and THE DARK KNIGHT as well:

Not to mention THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM:

What little we actually know of the film's plot alos makes it sound like a THE DARK KNIGHT rip-off.

I shouldn't be surprised, though. It is being made by Abrams, Kurtzmann and Orci.

I'm a big trekki too (just going to work in an enterprise t-shirt as I type - edit wow talk about a slow post, I sent this this morning and it seems to have posted now.). I even enjoyed enterprise to a limited extent.

When I heard of J.J's reboot I was apprehensive, he's not what I would call subtle much better than some others though. But after watching the film I was happy, it's split the timeline so as hardcore fans can't grumble about timelines.

I'm happy to sit through the next film and enjoy it, I know it won't take anything away from the trek I love and if enough people pump money into the franchise I hope we may get a new series.

In about one hour from now, or Dec. 6, a one minute teaser will hit the web. This is according to TrekMovie. The teaser will preceded a full trailer that will hit non-IMAX prints of The Hobbit. Obviously, IMAX prints of The Hobbit will have the first nine minutes of the film.

Hmmmm...... the Wrath of Khan?

"Vengeance" of course is a common theme (it was the theme for the previous movie as well), but right at the end we see another scene in there that makes me think this is a reboot of one of the all-time greats - Wrath of Khan. Pretty sure the "Vengeance" guy was human too, which also supports that concept.

Edit:

Also it should be obvious that I'm keying off of the fact that this is the second movie in the reboot and Wrath of Khan was the second movie in the original series.

Wrath of Khan is the first movie. That joke they released before Wrath of Khan is erased from my memory. :sly:

No, it looks like Abrams has decided to cram MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL and THE DARK KNIGHT into STAR TREK and then presented it as something new and original (or at least imply that he was responsible for all the good films that influenced it).

Seriously, he's probably the most over-rated person in Hollywood.

Well I like his work, so to each their own good sir. :sly:

Maybe I'm the only one that watches movies for entertainment value anymore, I don't feel the need to pick them apart and look at every little detail to see if it was copied from other movies. If it keeps me entertained and the special effects aren't too cheesy, I'm happy!
