So are they going to put the passenger door on the correct side for the UK this time? or is it going to be 4 door?

I don't find the car completely unappealing, but it doesn't really make all that great of a business case for itself, either.

You know, I saw a Paceman on the road the other day, and I thought to myself, "Oh, they actually got around to making it? And someone bought one?" That can't be a good sign for Mini. They've completely escaped my solar system when it comes to small cars. Sure, suburban Mom's might like how "cute" or "fun" they seem, but when the prices shoot through the stratosphere, and they go bonkers on odd models, can they save face with the people who made them popular in the first place?

I'd happily pay for a cheaper, stripped out Mini. Give me the coupe with the doors off the back of the Clubman (you know, for practicality), and I'd be a pretty happy guy.

I'd have been happy for them to have updated the old Clubman, minus the silly side door. The four-door format seems like overkill to me and it's lost some of the character at the back now they've lost the more upright setup.

The Clubvan is still my favourite MINI of recent times. But I suspect they won't be doing that one again, at least in the U.S, since they only sold fifty of them in total there. I've seen a few trundling about the UK too but I suspect it's not been a big seller. Cracking car though. More refined than any van has a right to be, looks great and drives really nicely with the diesel they stuck in it over here.

Those tail-lights are true Brit. :D

I don't care if the current Roadster is an overweight, scuttle-shaking pig that's not really any better to drive than the hatchback. I love it. I hope MINI continues making those pointless cars.

I'm not a fan of the current crop of MINIs - the latest Cooper S is far too fussy, and most other variants are hardly an improvement - but I think that looks fantastic. Genuinely pleasantly surprised.

Mini needs to put the Supperleggera concept into production. Like, now. It is by far the best looking Mini of the current era.

What's interesting is that int he press release they seem to have trade-marked the word Superleggera! Or perhaps it's MINI Superleggera they TM'd

edit: FWIW I think it looks a bit rubbish, I think it would have been better if they'd have shown it in some slightly more Mini-esque colour combo's.

I'm quite glad they haven't. It's finally a sign that someone at MINI has figured out that not all of their cars need to look identical.

That needs an Aston Martin badge, honestly. Because that shape, that arse, with a fwd chassis is a bit sacreligious. Much like the Fiat Barchetta.

When I first saw the front and the color I thought, Aston, what are you doing?!

Then I realized it was a Mini and said, Mini, what are you doing?!

I'm not impressed at all with this. It's just ugly. All the minis are getting rounder and rounder. They look like they have a bag of marshmallows stuffed into their cheeks.

I don't mind the look of it but I don't exactly like it either. I didn't read much of the article but I'd expect a weight of around 1150kg and near 200hp which sounds good to me. The thing I like most is it seems this could be Mini's way of getting out of the corner they had boxed themselves into with all their cars looking like different sizes of the same car.

^Saw one of those on the road today. I have to say I liked the previous generation (or pre-facelift, whatever MINI calls it) much better.

The front grille in particular is awful, gives the car a goofy scared/sad expression. The whole car is blobby and not as sharp and aggressive as the old one. I used to love the MINI but now I'd take one of these instead:

Actually, they probably should ditch the entire headlight-grille relationship... from profile, those lights actually look sharp. Porsche Macan sharp. Might as well go with that vibe and drop the grille below the bumper line.

Probably a much more exciting product launch to most of us than any new MINI. :D And it's only a hundred bucks. I think I know what I want to get myself for my birthday.

Yes, it has twin SU carbs. :dopey:

Grill below bumper line? No, they just need to make it less snouty. It looks like it has a phyma compared to the other cars. That goes for the rear too.

Yup. Since the current Beetle came out, that's the one I'd have too. I'm not even a VW fan but the Beetle is one of the few I like, and it's one of very few retro designs that doesn't look hugely contrived right now.

There's a new MINI. A 5 door hatch.

It's alright to hate this MINI, (I happen to love it) but please don't turn this thread into a HUGE discussion on how MINIs "aren't MINIs" anymore, because I don't want to hear it. There are other forums for that. However, I'd like to hear what you think of it! :)

It's not a new Counrtyman, not a replacement for the Clubman, it's a 5 door version of the hatch. (Hardtop). It's supposed to have similar or the same handling and driving feel as the 3-door hatch.

I really like this car, actually! Calling it a MINI at this point is a bit silly, but it looks better than the three door and would be quite a bit more practical, too.
