STORM Watch: Hurricane HARVEY - Aug 2017

Earlier today on ABC13 here in Houston, a woman was hanging onto a concrete barrier in the middle of a flooded freeway. She was rescued by a second boat that came in to try to rescue her. What happened next, though, stupefied me. Guess what the woman did? She was on the boat and happily rescued... and then threw herself back into the flood waters! It was a "wow" moment. Either she didn't want to be helped or that she maybe was looking for something. Either way, it was depressing see someone get helped who, in turn does the ultimate "f:censored: you" after being saved. The very definition of ungrateful.

I saw that, they said later that she walked out of the water. Not sure what happened to her after that. What an idiot.

Hearing more & more stories of looters beginning their **** ways. Someone said a group is going around stealing wheels/tires off trucks with a U-Haul and being followed by a car with armed men. :ouch:

Ya I don't get that. It's one thing to loot a supermarket because you have no food or water, but it's another to steal things like wheels and tires.

I guess the Cajun Navy was fired upon at some point yesterday too. Why in the world would you shoot at people trying to help?

I'm guessing the longer they can prolong this, the more they can steal.

Hope they capture those morons on Twitter going by the name #HarveyLootCrew

Now Hurricane Harvey is mostly impacting eastern Texas and Louisiana. Its forecast track is told to go northeast and impact the likes of Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, and even Kentucky. It is told that Port Arthur is completely under water. I know Port Arthur mostly for legendary hip-hop artist Bun B. You folks know what Harvey did to coastal Texas, so I hope you all can deal with Harvey like us Texans and coastal Texans had to. So stay strong!

One last note... today (August 30) is the anniversary of Houston being founded. Yep- the city of Houston was founded on this day in 1836. A picture on Twitter said something along the lines of donating money to Harvey relief efforts. As a proud native Houstonian, I am hopeful for this fine city and its finer people to return this city and surrounding areas to their former glory before Hurricane Harvey's arrival.

I was surprised to see on the news how many people seemed to be living in caravans instead of proper houses - is it that a big thing around there or had they already been evacuated to them?

Our local weatherman tonight said Hurricane Irma is now being tracked, and European model shows it will come into the Gulf as well unlike the American model which shows it moving up along the east coast. TMK, the European model is typically 60% accurate. It expected become a CAT 4 by Tuesday, and may possibly land among southern Georgia & Louisiana.

What's really superstitious is how similar this is to Katrina & Rita who followed each other, I think, just weeks apart? Praying Irma does not become as bad a Rita.

It's the peak of hurricane season; they're going to form with some regularity. Irma is already quite strong, and once it reaches warmer waters and completes its eyewall replacement cycle will likely strengthen, but it's too early to tell where it will go. The NHC themselves have noted that beyond 72 hours there's not much consensus on where it will head, and at that point a small turn extrapolates into quite a wide range of possible targets.
