Swedish, German and American cars are by far the most common classics in Sweden. French, Italian and British cars - especially the smaller and lighter models - are very rare.

I'm looking at the biggest online trading site right now, and there are 166 Chevrolets older than 1980 for sale right now. Only 5 Alfa Romeos.

I don't know but could the climate have something to do with the fact that there are few Italian and French classics around? More than any, the Italians don't like cold weather so much. If it's not for the engine that refuses, it's the Ligurian iron that attracts rust like chocolate attracts the fat kid. And although many Sweds live in houses with a garage, not all have one or they don't have the patience to roll a Guilia out for only during summertime.

I think it's more of a cultural thing. Germany has always been a big influence, and that probably explains why Volkswagens and Mercedes-Benz were so popular here. America got a big cultural influence after the war, I think partly because they won the war and partly because they had rock 'n' roll.

These days, you never see classic cars around in the winter. They're all kept in garages and tinkered with this time of year. And that's probably a good thing, because they would all turn to rustbuckets if they were driven on the winter roads, since salt is used to clear the ice.

They're used during the short summer, and then they're brought back to the garage for maintenance.

I disagree partly. Ever since I came to Germany I was teached that the relationship Sweden-Germany is rather fueled by scepticism and distrust on both sides. How exactly has Germany had an influence? OK, there are large comunities of afiliates of certain brands, Opel has a big fan base all over Scandinavia, just like Volvo and Saab has it in Germany. I love my Scania truck and wouldn't change for anything, and I grew up in the very town that has the Mercedes truck plant!

Well, if it was for a won war, the Britons had their share, right? Rock N Roll is probably a more valid point, but it doesn't exolplain why exactly there is a wide spread Rockabilly subculture in Sweden while other countries citizens might have never heard of such a thing.

As I was typing the previous post (on the phone, which is a pain in the behind trying to write on gtp) I remembered I been told you don't use salt there but leave the snow over the ice, which made sense, but it seems you either changed that or what I was told was just wrong and you used salt ever since. Anyway the salt isn't the. Only thing that attacks the cars body and makes it rust. Sealing has been used since the fifties, just not all manufacturers provided it from factory or as a service after purchase, Italians sure didn't.

I don't recognize that there would be scepticism and distrust. There is scepticism and distrust towards the European Union, for sure, but not towards Germany.

You can read more about it here:

I think it's the combination of having won the war and having an exciting new culture that gave them a big influence, especially among the young generation. Why Sweden in particular was more open for influences than many other countries is probably related to the emerge of the welfare state, and the way it "declutched" us from religion and tradition and made it possible to form our own cultural identity.

It's mainly the bigger roads that are being salted. There is so much traffic on them that when it snows it just quickly gets packed into ice anyway. Smaller roads are sanded, but they have started to use salt there as well, depending on the weather conditions.

I'm very skeptical about Germany. Once we had a exchange student from Germany in our class, so he claimed. But he was clearly Brazilian or something like that, and oddly enough had Swedish parents.
Also I think that @Flaco13 seems a little to nice, which scares me a bit. But I kind of like it at the same time. ;)

Hm... was it Prince Carl Philip?

Well, there are Mercedes-Benz, BMW's and Volkswagen's imported in USA....

Anyways, Midfield Raceway is a classic track in my opinion. My first racing in this track was when I did the Sunday Cup back in Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, which we have to do 2 Laps around the track.

That is a shame that Midfield Raceway is just a fictional track unlike the Deep Forest in my opinion, but I think that it should stay in GTSPORTS. With quality improved, but mantaining the spirit of the classic GT's. ;)

I had practiced with my Lotus and Ford GT40 in Tuesday and my Ford GT40 doesn't show much oversteer though. 👍

Is anyone available for practising tonight?

I meant cars only sold in Europe imported over here once they became 15 years old which is when foreign cars become legal to ship to Canada (I'm waiting for the caldina GT-four to become legal in a few years, I'm seriously considering importing one). I feel sorry for Americans, they can't import anything until it's 25 years old which is an eternity.

Ah all those Scandinavian countries at the top of the secular/rational value end of the scale makes me want to move to Iceland even more....one day...I did expect them to be up where Sweden is though rather than further down.

Otoh there is this swedish desire to fika, which can be irritating to german ears... :boggled::sly:
I most definitely agree with the fika part. I prefer to lock myself in a room, and have no contact what so ever with other people.
And I do like German design, after all I had a Porsche once, back when I had money. :D

There is nothing more comfortable than socks with sandals - it might be a fashion no no, but I don't care!

Just reminding you all that I won't be racing this Sunday so Lex Lathor will be hosting. I'll be back next Sunday. Until then enjoy this great video of Mark Schmidt racing his Austin Healey - turn up the sound!

My race report:

At Race 1, I was 3rd after a fight with Siggers.

In the Race 2, I was 2nd until Manasseh overtook me. I was going to for the first, but because I had bumper into Sigger's GT40 left side, then decided to give his position back, as the win would not be fair for both of us. I still had a good fighr with Sig and Manasseh for trying to get my 2nd place back, but because of their GT40's were much faster than the Europa, then I have decided to stick with 3rd place overall. That made 1 victory in 1967 Three Ten Cup and 6 class wins and with that, I just passed @bloodyboyblue in the GT5 standings.

At the Race 3, my tune of GT40 worked very well. Because Manasseh had left the lobby, then I only needed to deal with Siggers and Lex Lathor, as they tried to reduce my vantage.

In the final lap, I started to be under pressure and scared because Siggers was almost getting closer to me. However, I wasn't expecting that Siggers would make a mistake on the final lap. He actually had spun out, which was very strange for me. Lex overtook me and has made a Ford 1-2 finish. That win was amazing for me, as my #6 car just got a GT40 class win number 6. So far, I have 2 wins and 6 class wins on 1966 Sports Car Cup. :D

Well, for curiousity, why is it called "1967 Three Ten Cup" and not "1967 Sports Car Series"?

Well, for curiousity, why is it called "1967 Three Ten Cup" and not "1967 Sports Car Series"?

It's called "Three Ten" because it's 310 bhp (310 = "three ten").

As for my race report, here it is:

1. First race with the Ferrari Dino. Great straightline speed, but I had a pretty bad suspension setup that made the car unstable in the corners. Had a couple of battles with BBB, basically his Corvette ran circles around me in the corners while I soared past him on the straights . I finished 9th in the end, after a couple of incidents during the last laps allowed me to catch up with some cars.

2. Second race. Ditched the custom suspension and went stock. I was actually slower during the first half of the race, but was pretty high up in the rankings anyway - I guess the start was more chaotic than in the first race? After a while Tarnheld caught up with me and made me shave off 2 seconds per lap! Nothing is as motivating as having a GT40 in your mirror! Finished 6th.

3. The GT40 race was very close, especially during the first couple of laps. I guess we were 5 or 6 cars who ran in a pack, I had If and BBB in front of me (best seat to watch their epic battle!) and eventually their battle allowed me to catch up and pass If. A lap or two later BBB went off the track and I was briefly up on 4th place! As the race progressed and my rear tyres started to wear, the downforce-assisted Jaguars got an edge in the corners and quickly closed in on me. I did my best to try and cover the apexes and make them go the long way around to make a pass. If managed to sneak past after I had made a mistake, but he was the only one. Finished 5th.

Good times, after a decent qualifying i let it slip in the first race and had fallen back a few places. Then lost the flow somehow and managed to park on track after a slide. :banghead: Sorry Lex, he had no chance to avoid hitting me, truly unfortunate. :ill: Second race i started from the back but managed to make up a few places thanks to the well set up GT40, but didn't manage to sneak past eran, good battle! :dopey: The last race was epic, battled with Flaco and Simba for a long time, truly intense racing fun!

Thanks Lex for hosting! :)👍

I wanted to write a race report too, because of my first pole ever, since I began to play GT6 in June 2015. But as I watched the replays I noticed that in the third race I had 3 invisibles. This was sig1611 and flaco (funny because we were using the same network for the internet, and pimiki, whom I have to apologies because I spoiled his race in curve 3 of the first round; very very sorry.
Should I be more carful, maybe quit the race when I see empty grids in the starting field? I don´t know.
Nevertheless it was a great experience for me and I could learn a lot. Thank you guys for that.

Round 10 from Midfield

Sounds like I missed a good one and in the past this track has been kind to me, but as @IfAndOr said I had to buy some new sandals (attend a Christmas concert with family). Thanks very much to @LexLathor for hosting this round and thanks to all of you for posting up some entertaining race reports. I'm looking forward to returning for round 11 from Rome.

Interview with Manasseh

This week an interview with the joint top scorer from the "1967 Three Ten Cup" - the very fast @Manasseh257NSX

1. What is the secret behind your speed?
Practice, and learning my track. I practice a lot for a surplus amount of other series, what I learn from there, I just translate it to every car I drive.

2. Do you use a wheel or controller?
Haha sadly I use a controller. I'll be moving to a wheel once I get a PS4.

3. If you use a wheel, what sort of wheel and rig or stand?
N/A

4. How many hours per week do you practise?
Goodness, haha I'd say about 3-5. I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment, so I'm able to practice a lot.

5. How do you tune your cars - what do you start with first?
I tune my cars by testing to see what setup works and which doesn't. I pretty much go through trial and error. I always start with suspension. I adjust my spring rate and dampers more often than anything.

6. How long have you been playing GT?
17 years. No lie, I've been playing GT since I was a pre-schooler!

7. How old are you or is that private?
I'm 20 years old

8. What does your family think of your hobby?
They think it's an interesting hobby to have and find it pretty cool that I communicate with people from all around the world from it.

9. What sort of car do you drive in real life?
A 1996 Acura TL

10. Do you drive fast in real life?
Yes, I need to stop before I hurt myself.

11. What car would you drive if you won a lot of money?
A 1996 Dodge Viper GTS! I love that car so freaking much.

Next Round 11 from Rome

But Sick, how do I send a replay to you and Sig? There was an amazing battle me and Sig had in the 2nd race and I want him to see it. (I was invisible to him)

You can export the replay (go to your gallery and choose export for the replay), then go to the PS3 Save Data Utility and select the GT6 replay file and plug in an USB stick. Then you can copy it onto the stick. The replay is contained in a folder with a cryptic name, don't rename it, but you can zip the whole folder and send it to someone. They can import it by following roughly the reverse way Stick -> GameSave Utility -> Gallery. Hope this helps! 👍

Thanks Tarnheld! 👍 :D

Should I be more carful, maybe quit the race when I see empty grids in the starting field? I don´t know.
A way to notice there are invisible drivers before race starts is when you see less people on track in practice mode than stated by others in the chat. For example: we have 16 drivers in total inside the room and many drivers type '16' in the chat, meaning of the 16 people in the room all are 'on track'(including in pits) but you can only see 14 on track, this can mean you have two invisibles.

Leave and re-enter a room only before race was started by the host, if you leave after Qualifying or from the grid right before the actual race starts, consequenses are you will miss the race and get no points but it could also lead to more lag and instability for the remaining drivers.

So I think its best if you stay in and finish the race at that point. Even better would be to realize it during practice, as stated above.

@Manasseh257NSX Wow, never would've guessed you use controller, your driving is so smooth and accurate I could've sworn you had a wheel! 👍

You take the best pictures John! I promise on everything. Pictures always catch the intense moments.

Haha thanks man! A lot of people are shocked when they find out I'm a DS3 User ( well everyone but TRL boys and TNR lol). I just gotta hit apexes and stuff correctly. Then i can be even faster :D Planning on getting the T150 soon :D

It's gonna help my steering input A WHOLE LOT! lol
