Artificial, yeah maybe. But I think I'd rather have those sounds over the PD's faulty kitchen appliance versions. They do have more grunt to them. There are some good ones but I have to turn my volume down sometimes because many sound that bad.

Doesn't Laguna Seca look good too.
Hmm, Forza 6. :)

Race Report Round 0 (Test Day) from Trial Mountain Reverse - Part 1

Slide 1 Title.jpg

Thirteen Drivers attended the Test Day (Mannasseh and Harsk were unable to attend) so the numbers are looking promising, but we still have a couple of spaces (for reserve drivers) for those who read this and are interested please contact Sick Cylinder asap. It was Great to see Maximusmonster back and welcome a new driver SimbaLora.

Many drivers had not yet got a good setup on their cars, so there will be more speed to come, but it was a good test with some close racing. I will post some links later in the thread to tunes created by our favourite tuner @feydrautha whose tunes for the Ferrari 250 GTO, Lotus Europa Special and Corvette C2 were used when developing this series. Many of you are expert tuners and have your own style, but I recommend trying these tunes while you are developing your base tune - note these comments only apply to the Gold and Platinum Drivers who compete in GT3 or GT5 - Silver drivers use the Ford GT40 in this series and a suggested tune for that car was posted earlier in the thread (Insert post number).

Fastest race laps were as follows (NB these are quite variable due to traffic):

Race 1: Alfa TZ2 - Pimiki = 1.34.381
Race 2: Ferrari Dino - Lex Lathor = 1.35.787
Race 3: Ford GT40 - Sick Cylinder = 1.36.452
Race 4: Ferrari Dino - Flaco = 1.37.766

Picture above - Top, Dubois and Tuerlinckx raced a number 17 GT350 in 1967 - we are using numbers 17 and 71.

Middle - Ferrari 250 GTO is standing in for a 275 GTB/C in yellow and Red - the 275 probably raced in more Le Mans than any other Ferrari and is therefore an essential car for any serious racing game. [INSERT Link]

Bottom - Alfa TZ2 is standing in for Austin Healey Sprite Le Mans which competed on several occasions including 1967.

Slide 2.jpg

Picture Top - Flaco's "Austin Healey".

Middle - John Wells "Lola T70 Aston Martin". In 1967 John Surtees entered a two car team of Aston Martin V8 powered Lola T70's - we are replicating those cars using the Ford GT40 MK1.

Bottom - Three abreast up the hill - there was plenty of close racing.

Slide 3.jpg

Above action close ups.

Slide 4 Corvette.jpg

Above we are replicating the 1967 Dick Guldstrand and Bob Bondurant 7 litre Corvette with number 9 and 99 Corvette C2's from the game. Unhappy with the handling of the car Dick visited scrap yards in France before the race and using his engineering skills made up a new set of leaf springs for the car to his own specification!

Slide 5 Mirage M1.jpg

Above JWA Engineering lost their role heading Ford's Le Mans effort in favour of Carroll Shelby so for 1967 with sponsorship from Gulf Oil they produced their own car - the Mirage M1 powered by a 5.7 litre Ford engine, which was closely based on the Ford GT40. IfAndOr (14) and Sick Cylinder (15) are driving these replicas.

Slide 6 Crash.jpg

Picture Top and Middle - Mirage M1 spins out. Bottom "Austin Healey" chases "Ford GT40 MK2" - we are using the rear deck scoop to create a 7 litre MK2 replica while 4.7 litre MK 1 replicas use rear metal grilles.

Gold and Platinum Drivers - try these tunes by Feydrautha before setting up your Chevrolet Corvette C2, Lotus Europa Special or Ferrari 250 GTO - link takes you to the contents page where cars are listed alphabetically:

Sick, how about trying the Pit Standing wall Start Method on Round 1?
I'm going to be sitting in the lounge waiting for when Sick says "Gentlemen, start your PS3's". Then I'll leap up and run through the house to leap into my seat. I'll probably have to leap out again because I've forgotten to switch it on at the wall socket but then I'll leap in again and fire it up, log on and get GT6 going. Then I'm off and running, although probably out of breath what with all the leaping.

Of course Sick will maybe have to phone me up because I wont hear him without the PS3 on. Perhaps he could fire a flare into the sky.

I'm sure it's do-able. The details will just need to be sorted out. :)

Start from the Living Room?

You won't need to start from there. I will show you guys how to do it in Sunday. 👍

Sick, how about trying the Pit Standing wall Start Method on Round 1?

I have a lot of respect for Icx for refusing to run to his car in 1969 and waiting to start until he had fastened his seatbelts and secured his drivers door - he probably did this protest because in 1968 Willy Mairesse had been seriously injured when his door opened on the Mulsanne Straight. In 1969 John Woolfe was leading the first lap in his Porsche 917, but crashed on the high speed corner at Mulsanne - his seat belts had not been fastened and he was thrown from the car at over 200mph.

Ickx was last to leave the grid, but went on to win the race and the Le Mans start was abolished for 1970 onwards.

PS - We won't be doing a Le Mans start on Sunday - it will just be a normal grid start.

Why did they run to their cars? Was there some kind of historical reason?

Yes - originally it was known as a "Herringbone Start" (presumably because the cars lined up at an angle looked like the bones of a fish with the Pit Wall being the backbone). It became known as the Le Mans start because it quickly became the most famous and most important race in the world. Running across the track was introduced to Le Mans in 1925. The regulations required that the car complete the first twenty laps of the race with the soft top raised - presumably in order to prove its effectiveness - after which the driver could lower the soft top during a pit stop if desired. To check the efficacy of the hood (soft top) mechanism the driver had to stand on the opposite side of the road, run to his car which had to have the hood in its folded down position - the driver then erected the frame and hood and secured it in position then entered the car, started the engine and raced away.

The requirement to have the drivers run across the track started in 1925 - the idea was to keep them away from their car to stop the possibility of them cheating by partially erecting their hood - presumably this had occurred in 1923 (the first running of Le Mans) or 1924 or perhaps the organisers suspected that drivers might be unable to resist the temptation to cheat.

IMPORTANT CHANGE TO GT3

As for GT3, I think the Dino and the Alfa Romeo are close, but the 250 GTO isn't really competitive. I didn't use a flat power curve though, but I think the main issue with the car is its slow cornering. Maybe the GTO needs to step up to SM tyres to be competitive with the other GT3 cars?

After completing more testing today I have changed the tyres used on the Ferrari 250 GTO to Sports Mediums in order to make it competitive with the Alfa TZ2 and Ferrari Dino which will remain on sports hard tyres. Even with a good tune the cornering of the 250 GTO is very poor on SH tyres - I don't know why PD did this and made the camber etc. non-adjustable - although primitive by modern standards the suspension of the 250 GTO in real life was every bit as good as that on the Alfa Romeo TZ2.

The above change will be made to the first posts of the thread to aid new drivers.

The above change only affects the four drivers competing in the GT3 category - namely: @LexLathor @Pimasz @Flaco13 and @eran0004

I will be making one or two colour and number changes to accommodate leavers and starters in the series, but will notify of these tomorrow. I am pleased to announce that @tarnheld has decided to join our series.

Strange, sometimes I don't get a notification when posts are made here, even though I am watching the thread...

Anyway, nice pictures! It's good to see some diversity on the track :)

If you happen to miss one notification and not visit the thread you won't get any further alerts until you have visited the thread. It's caught me out a few times.
Use the watched threads button on the main forum page to spot any missed posting action. :)

Important Information for all Racers

All Racers please look through the tables below of cars, race numbers and colours etc until you find yourself and check whether there are any changes - I have tried to detail any changes below, but it is easy to miss something - Thanks!

The series is now almost full and has 15 Regular Drivers. If you are unable to attend a round please post this on the thread. I will then notify the drivers on the Reserve list and the first to respond that he wants to race will get the vacant grid slots for that week.

There is currently one Gold License Reserve - Zmihalik and he is now shown on the Driver List as RESERVE 1 Gold. There is space for two further Gold reserves. (These could be GTP TLE or GK Gamer etc. if they are available and want to race).

There are currently three Silver License Reserves - Mallet JR (St Bridge), Tony Lomas, Mannyhavitz. There is space for one further reserve.

Changes to Numbers and Colours - 1967 Three Ten Cup

GT5 - Corvette v GT350 v Lotus
Following the Test Round 0 I have made a small number of minor changes to improve the series. With the reduction to three in the number of regular drivers contesting the GT5 Championship the race numbers have been changed to the original numbers used in 1967 namely 9 on the Corvette, 17 on the Shelby GT350 and 44 on the Lotus. The reserve slots now take over the fictitious numbers of 99, 71 and 88.

GT3 - Alfa v 250 GTO v Dino
No changes except the 250 GTO can now use Sports Medium tyres. The Alfa and Dino remain on Sports Hard tyres.

GT40 - Silver Drivers Only
Simba Lora will now drive a number 11 Lola T70 Mk3 replica

Changes to Numbers and Colours - 1966 Sports Car Cup

Maximusmonster will now drive his XJ13 with the race number 43 (font A, type A) painted French Blue from the Lotus Europa S2 1968.

Simba Lora will now drive his XJ13 with the race number 65 and in the original Jaguar green colour.

Tarnheld will now drive his XJ13 with race number 66 and in the original Jaguar green colour. Note number 67 is now for reserve drivers.

The silver number 7 Graham Hill replica Ford GT40 has been withdrawn - I have done this because of a race number clash with the Chaparral 2D number 7 (which was a 9 in 1966). Danielsspel will therefore now compete in the number 4 Mark Donoghue / Paul Hawkins car painted Spice Orange Metallic from the Mini Cooper S 2011.

These changes are shown on the following tables which will also be posted at the start of the thread.

1967 Gold Drivers.jpg

Note:
Zmihalik will race in the cars listed against Reserve 1 Gold.
@bloodyboyblue will race in the cars listed against Reserve 2 Gold.

Important Change for Round 1 - La Sarthe 2005 No Chicanes only

This is a very extreme track with a straight over three miles long which enables the cars to reach unprecedented speeds. For this round only the following cars will be upgraded to Sport Soft tyres: Chevrolet Corvette C2, Shelby GT350, Ferrari 250 GTO - this temporary change has been made due to these cars having a much lower top speed - this should give them back some of the time they will lose.

No change will be made in the 1966 Sports Car Cup - the Ford GT40 driven by the Gold drivers has a big speed advantage over the other cars, but it laps slower at the other tracks on the calendar.

The races have been scheduled for 15 minutes each at round 1, but if we are ahead of schedule the final race will be increased in length to its normal 25 minutes.

Peak speeds in mph achieved by me in testing yesterday were:
1967 Three Ten Cup: Alfa TZ2 197, GT40 192, Dino 191, Lotus 191, 250 GTO 179, Corvette 177, GT350 169
1966 Sports Car Cup: GT40 223, XJ13 200, Ferrari 330 P4 205 and Chaparral 2D 191.

My top speed for Chaparral 2D, was about 186:)

Hi John I'm getting 191mph for Chaparral - I'll send you the setup later.

Hi @Cu3e - I'm getting 205mph for the Ferrari 330 P4 - I'll send you the setup later.

All Drivers - I used @eran0004 straight test track to check acceleration - it is much longer than a normal dragstrip (about 1.5 miles), but is extremely useful - I recommend that everybody download from Eran's page or mine (the community section).

I'll post the acceleration results with Le Mans gearing on the thread later.

@Sick Cylinder It's precisely 1 mile from the start line to the finish line :)
Split time at 1/2 mile.

It shows as longer in the game because the distances before the start line and after the finish line are counted as well.

Thanks - it is a great track and something everyone who plays GT6 should have because it so useful for practising starts, checking acceleration etc. - thanks for a great piece of track building!

Acceleration figures with Le Mans gearing I obtained using Eran's track were (Top speeds on Mulsanne Straight are shown at bottom of earlier post):

1966 Sports Car Cup

GT40 (with 485bhp) = 26.294
Ferrari 330 P4 = 27.326
Jaguar XJ13 = 27.502
Chaparral 2D = 28.132

For the 1967 Three Ten Cup I remembered to look at the speedo as I crossed the one mile line so I have terminal speeds.

GT40 (with 310bhp) = 29.820 @ 173mph (Sport Hard)
Ferrari Dino = 30.683 @ 173 mph (Sport Hard)
Ferrari 250 GTO = 31.323 @ 167 mph (Sport Soft)
Lotus Europa = 31.756 @ 170mph (Sport Medium)
Shelby GT350 = 32.043 @ 159mph (Sport Soft)
Corvette C2 = 32.134 @ 162mph
Alfa Romeo TZ2 = 32.372 @ 170mph
