Super Unofficial DiRT 4 Thread (PS4/XB1/PC)

We want Your Stage in leagues with no possibility of the reset/restart trick, and we also want live PvP stages/rallies. Does anyone know if this has been confirmed?
It's known that you can share Your Stage creations via RaceNet, and I expect that you could use them in leagues. I have heard some talk about live PvP stages - maybe not for Your Stage - but as I understand it, Codemasters have some concerns about its implementation.

MXH
It's not in, unfortunately. Licensing issues as usual.

:ouch:

Ekströms team wasn't supported by Audi before which made licensing difficult. According to the devs that has now changed as Audi is supporting the team, which mean there is a chance the car might be available for licensing :)

That's confirmation of a sixth circuit for rallycross, which is good because rallycross felt really under-developed in Dirt Rally with only three circuits, and the initial announcement of five circuits - the original three, plus Loheac and Montalegre - was pretty disappointing because it didn't really add much, especially for a game with an official licence. Six circuits is a little bit better, but it would be nice for a much more complete roster.

Hmm. What is the sixth circuit you're talking about? As far as I know it's the original three + Montalegre and Loehac.

Yeah, that was the missing piece in (possibly) getting EKS S1 in DiRT as Paul said on the official CM forums. Crossing my fingers for DLC down the line.

:)

The gameplay was literally from Barcelona.... definitely wasn't being played on the screen.

Notice how he says Montalegre is new to DiRT 4, alongside the three from DiRT Rally. There is apparently "another surprise" but we can see later that it is Loheac.

Did you read the thread?

So unless Codemasters spent all that time, effort and money developing assets that thry have no intention of using, I'd say it's confirmed.

Yes. It wasn't gameplay from the Barcelona circuit, they showed gameplay from Montalegre at the RX event at Barcelona.

I will answer my own question. I did some digging and the info is in the release announcement and then they shed more light on it in an EU PlayStation Q&A post. Some snippets:

"So, this is big: Your Stage technology also provides you the tools to generate your own stages. At the push of a button, you can specify what kind of stage you want – location, long, short, complex, straight-forward, night-time, sunset, rainy, whatever – the choice is all yours. And once you hit that button, you have a completely unique stage created to your own personal spec. This is a stage you’ll be able to take time and time again, share with your friends and the DiRT Community, and even use it with league and PvP functionality. And with over a billion different combinations of stage at your disposal, the possibilities are near endless. It’s absolutely mega, and I don’t use that word lightly."

"Beyond Your Stage we’ve been working on a whole suite of improvements across the game. In rally these include things like PvP support, multi-class rally events and flying finishes (where you cross the line and then have to stop at the time control)."

"One of the most requested features for DIRT Rally was PvP, and we’re bringing it back in two different flavours. You may remember Jam Session from DiRT 3, which makes its triumphant return to provide you with all of your custom lobby needs. Also back is Pro Tour, powered by a new, truly competitive ladder and ranking system."

"We have an almost infinite amount of rally stages available in the game with our new tech, which means players won’t ever be able to learn a stage off by heart – especially when it comes to our online events. And then bringing the 8-player MP Landrush, PvP Rally, Rallycross MP, and the ranking system... there are so many reasons for people to return to the game time and time again."

"PvP Rally is in DiRT 4! There were limitations when it came to DiRT Rally, so it’s something we prioritised with DiRT 4."

"The short answer is yes – PvP Rally is returning, so you and your buddies will be able to jump into a session together and race against one another in real time. It’s one of the things players asked us most for throughout the development of DiRT Rally, so with DiRT 4 we’ve made sure to deliver."

So there you have it. It was confirmed way back in the release announcement. Don't know how I missed it. I also read on other blogs that the system will allow you to save PvP rally formats, so in a session you evidently could quickly swap locations and load full rallies in the lobby with the push of a button. Gonna be EPIC!

[EDIT] Forgot to mention there will be no ghost cars in PvP. That's fine with me, I turn them off in Loeb as I find them distracting. I assume they will show gaps at the split points or maybe have a progress indicator or something. [/EDIT]

I loved Dirt Rally and still do, i always knew code masters had a great rally game under all the ken block/xgames stuff although real rally content was minimal, when Dirt Rally came out i thought finally back to some proper rally!!

In short i am just not as excited for DIRT4 purely because i feel it will be watered down rally wise, have no interest in land rush whatsoever, i know i could just ignore it but i feel time spent on that mode could've gone into more locations for actual rally. i would've preferred some dlc for Dirt Rally.

One thing i'm very interested in is creating my own team, loved it in the original GRID game.
Was also hoping for ghost cars when racing online, hopefully all my fears will be proved wrong and we get some nice rally content :)

As far as I'm concerned, Your Stage promises more rally content than all of Codemasters' other rally games combined. Their practice of recycling and recombining chunks of road to fluff up the stage list turned me off from trying Dirt Rally. However, I understand that the five locales aren't enough to offer a proper WRC season's worth of rallies.

What I'm most curious about, besides how Your Stage will actually turn out, is this notion that Dirt Rally is a simulator and therefore Dirt 4 will also possess a simulation handling model. I don't refuse to accept it, I just can't believe it because that would be such a 180-degree flip from CM's back catalog.

Dirt 3 was simulation-ish in how cars reacted to environmental geometry, but its handling dynamics were firmly rooted in CM's traditional arcade-style pivot-steer model. GRID Autosport, the most recent CM game I've played, was no different; its attempt to be "simcade" basically amounted to making cars artificially challenging to drive. Knife-edged, twitchy, vague, and nonsensical from the perspective of cockpit view, but serviceable and enjoyable nonetheless...that's what CM games have always been to me.

It would be great for Dirt 4 to defy my expectations. 👍

Does the career mode being procedurally generated means there are no hand created tracks at all in this game? I was expecting a mix of hand made and generated tracks. That will make career mode a completely different experience for everyone - and how will they ensure difficulty consistency, target times, etc? You could have a player stuck at a race and unable to progress just because the target time is unachievable or the track has a design anomaly that means it can't be finished. Also that means if we come across a nice road we can't re-run it? I sure hope there's an option to save a track from career mode for later use.

I would not judge the physics of Dirt 4 until is possible to try it. Is very difficult to clarify the depth of the tyre model by watching videos. Only with certain tests like moose test, donuts or turning the wheel at maximum steering when driving fast to test the understeer would be possible to figure out.

But in Dirt 4, is impossible to know how the physics are, because it could be simulation mode or arcade mode.

I know DR tarmac physics is bad, but that looks nothing like a sim. Here's hoping it's much improved in D4. The disaster is we won't have Pikes Peak anymore in D4 (damn you PD).

I could be wrong but I took CM's words to mean that the tracks in career are fixed, they've just been curated from the stage generator.

All this control and flexibility has allowed us to curate the career with different tracks that allow the structure to increase the challenge as you progress and develop your skills – something we’ve not been able to do in the past. This presented its own challenges to us, but after much hard work the player should now get a much more in-depth, progressive experience from the Career Mode – as well as a colossal variety of unique tracks through the freeplay mode!

If that's the case then if there is any flaws in the generator, the career will probably be the last place you'll find them.

Career consists of 300 fixed stages. They are all made in the generator though but chosen by the devs. These stages have online leaderboards.

The stages you generate yourself can be saved and shared if you choose to.

Looking good. After Persona 5 released, this is now looking to be my most anticipated game, and I'm especially excited to rip around in the R2 spec vehicles.

Indeed. I'm surprised how much I'm looking forward to driving those little things. It's cool to have a modern entry class.
