Super Unofficial DiRT 4 Thread (PS4/XB1/PC)

Codemasters explained months ago that they were not able to use current WRC cars or certain locations (like Finland) due to FIA licensing.
Current WRC cars. What are the chances of cars from like 2010 for example? Its been 7 years now.

Can we use all cars on the rallycross tracks, say like the sierra cosworth etc... I know we couldnt on Dirt rally, a right bummer that was, shame as you could use the rally cars in sebastian loeb on the rallycros bits im sure, not played that for a while though.

I haven't got the game yet as it comes out on the 9th in Aus, but I'm a little bummed about not having any Pikes Peak or Hillclimb courses, or even the 'Trailblazer' course like from Dirt 3 which were quite fun. 5 locations does seem quite low, hopefully extras are added via DLC. I guess Germany has been replaced by Spain as the Tarmac rally and I have heard about finland not being being allowed.

5 locations does seem quite low
Codemasters have said that they chose the five locations because of the surface types. Sweden is snow, Spain is tarmac, Michigan is light gravel, Australia is heavy gravel, and Wales is wet gravel.

And a couple of weeks ago, someone here was saying that career mode contains three hundred stages. Plus the Your Stage creations can be included in career mode.

hopefully extras are added via DLC
I do, too, but I would rather that they make DLC that adds something to the game rather than being for the sake of it. For example, Mexico is run at high altitude, so the thin air starves the turbocharger and makes the aerodynamics less effective.

I have heard about finland not being being allowed.
All of the stages from Dirt Rally had to go because they're all taken from actual stages.

New Zealand would be an awesome opportunity to add, without having a WRC round there at the moment. Bit like Michigan mixed with Wales with hills, real hills, with long serious elevations so it satisfies the Hillclimbers too.

They're pushing for one. The FIA want to expand to fourteen rounds in 2018, and New Zealand is one of two rounds (the other being Croatia) vying for the vacant spot.

Bit like Michigan mixed with Wales
This is exactly what I was thinking of when I was talking about adding locations for the sake of it. If it's just a combination of existing locations, it doesn't add anything to the gameplay experience.

It's not the countries themselfs that is an issue. It's just the fact they can't model the stages as the real ones being used.

The landrush stuff is more fun than I expected in fact I think I like it more than rallycross. I unlocked historic rally races last night, I hope to try some Group B later on tonight. Also, I'm having a ton of fun with team management stuff, hiring crew, improving facilities and so on. May sound pretty boring to some, but it's surprisingly fun to delegate winnings to your team or to new cars.

My understanding based on what has been posted at Codies' forum is that all current-decade WRC cars are off-limits due to licensing with Kolytonn and the official WRC games.

Unfortunately, no. The physics engines are totally separate, that is the reason why we can't run rally cars on rallycross tracks, and vice-versa.

Can you do online rally?? (like everybody starts at the same time and other cars are ghosted)
Online lobbies are fantastic. Championship with up to 6 rallies, 12 stages each, generated right there with Your Stage. Only eight people max. No ghosting. Stage and cumulative times are shown at the end of each stage.

I'm not gonna say it's 100% fact, but the reason we can't use RX cars on rally stages and rally cars on RX cicuits is mainly down to licensing. They use the same physics, just a different tire. After all, all cars in the game can be used in the Dirtfish rally school area.

I'm not too bothered by that. Every rally game always contains the same stages. At least Dirt 4 offers something new.

Agreed. However, I ran the Kit Car weekly in Australia last night. It was 6 stages. The same tiles came up quite frequently during those stages. In the end I did expect this to be the case with the Your Stage feature.

RX cars on stages may be down to that, but the other way around shouldn't be an issue, as in SLRE you can run anything on the RX stages (including licenced ones).

Might have something to do with the whole WRX license. That branding is present on the circuits too.

I would love to run the rally cars on the circuits as well though.

Good point, bit of a pain. To be honest given that we don't actually have the full WRX despite the licence I could live without it if we had more freedom of choice in regard to cars and tracks.

Indeed.

I'm truly torn about Dirt 4 at this stage. The RX cars are brilliant to drive, so are the rally cars as long as you stay away from the gravel(ironic). In my opinion they should have kept the gravel surface grip level they had in DR. I'm not sure if the excessive grip on gravel came as a product of the improvement they did to the aero model or suspension.

Throwing the cars around the Dirtfish school is splendid. It truly feels awesome. On the actual gravel stages it's a bit different.

The most odd thing about the Australia Location is where it's supposedly set. Fitzroy?! To those who don't know, Fitzroy is a inner city suburb about 5 minutes from the Melbourne CBD, and is about as far from what it looks like in game. Unless there's another Fitzroy that I'm not aware of..

I've actually read somwhere that there indeed is another Fitzroy in Australia. Can't remember where I read it sadly.

There's a Fitzroy county just west of Coffs Harbour. We don't use counties much - they're really just a legal subdivisions used by the department of lands.

It's not exactly the same, but Your Stage can come up with stages that have considerable changes in elevation. As you traverse a stage you might drive from a low-lying area into hills or vice versa.

Right, took a drive in Spain and the start was somewhat sealevel clear and sunny then arrived up in the hills only to be blinded by fog or sand one, limiting vision to say 30 ft then back down the hills to clear again.
The Opel was destroyed. it was amazing

Picked this up the other day and so far i am really enjoying it. As a cew have said already i found myself surprised by how much i enjoy the team managment stuff. A few minor things like with any game that could be better imo but all in all a great addition to the dirt franchise.

Hmmm I was so looking forward to this...I cancelled it now...hmmm

no photomode:(
no proper replay unless anyone can say for sure, i hate that cutting back to interior view etc
cannot use all cars on all tracks:(

On the subject of DLC locations, I think the top of my wishlist is tarmac rallying in Japan like CMR3 and CMR04...or a similarly green and wet Germany/France. Procedurally generated touge would be quite a winning feature. :)

So the game comes out tonight in the U.K, but the 55 quid price has me a little stuck. I can't help but wonder If I should wait for a price drop.

Can you guys help me out? Can you tell me if much has changed from dirt rally, and what has? And is it worth justifying the purchase of it on top of dirt rally?
