Super Unofficial DiRT 4 Thread (PS4/XB1/PC)

I'm not totally sure how the "Your Stage" thing works, but even though it's randomly generated stages, could it still get repetitive in a different way? As in, familiar corners or assets used over and over?

The number of "Right 4 over crest jump maybies" in the Weekly RWD Wales event was mind-boggling. It's extremely repetitive and lacking in character. However, I prefer a less-perfect permanent unknown to a close-to-perfect 12 stages that can be memorized in a week. Despite it's limitations, Your Stage is what will keep me playing.

Right, I think that will be a good way to look at it no matter what. I'd much prefer that over permanent courses. My only complaint in Dirt Rally was repetition of the stages. The car list was perfect, all I wanted was a bigger variety of stages, so I think I'll be very happy with Your Stage. Thanks for the reply.

There is nothing wrong with the core physics at all. When playing around with the BMW M3 in the Dirt Fish area it becomes quite evident that it's the gravel surface of the rally stages that needs tweaking somehow. The RWD physics is truly **** brilliant in D4 under the hood!

Yes, the problem is with gravel physics having to much grip. It's something that was raised as a concern by the beta testers and not corrected. The FWD and 4WD are still fun to drive although the extra grip makes 4WD less fun. RWD cars on gravel are just an absolute disaster. Full throttle out of hairpins without even a twitch.

As you pointed out, in DiRTfish, Spain and rallycross everthing is fine, so it has to do with what I believe to be a bug in the gravel rally mode. I hope they fix it.

First time I know about a BGM months before the game lol. Thanks radio for put it in the most played list :D

Also, I will one of these days hop into the action since, now that I have my brother's insurance part, I can buy myself a PS4 + the game!! xDD. But I won't do it until I be debt clear ;)

There should be a day one patch. Don't know if that is already available?

I think the problem with generated stages is that they're all generic. They don't have any unique characteristics like Colin's Crest or big unique scenery objects like the tree around the hairpin in Dirt Rally.
Its like the problem with the Gran Turismo's course maker. Dirt 4 isnt as worse as that but still.

Kinda weird seeing that Dirt Rally has more variety than Dirt 4. I mean why they cut the Hill Climb Cars? Not to mention the tracks that very pleasing to look at on Dirt Rally, mostly due to how many environments it contains.

Licencing issues. The WRC games have the WRC licence, which is why the stages from Dirt Rally don't appear (they're all real roads - Col de Turini in Monaco, Ouninpohja in Finland, Vårgasen in Sweden, Perasma Platani in Greece and Hafren in Wales). And I think Polyphony have the licence for Pike's Peak. There are other hillclimbs in the world, but many of them are pretty short, so working them in would be a lengthy process with little value.

I played for a good couple hours last night and I am hooked. I am a bit let down that the physics and "sim" handling mode doesn't feel like Dirt Rally, but I still very much enjoy it. People have been saying that Dirt 4 cars feel weighted (or maybe that was referring to the RX cars, which I haven't yet tried), but I disagree. They feel light to me and I can fly into a corner too fast and still manage to brake to make the turn without flying into a tree like I would in Dirt Rally. I actually enjoyed in DR that when I messed up it really messed me up and you really had to nail corners to win a stage.

Overall, I only tried rallies so far and I am enjoying the team management stuff. The stages I tried in career mode are good fun, although maybe a bit generic feeling, but I can see myself playing Your Stage over and over without getting bored. I did encounter a glitch, though, where there was no full countdown at the start of a rally, all I did was mash the gas and take off as soon as the co-driver read "5...".

That was present in Dirt Rally, but it wasn't a glitch. It's a manual start. You have to hold the handbrake, find the bite point on the clutch, and wait for the countdown. Then you have to release the clutch, upshift and accelerate away. If you jump the start - as you are doing - you got a penalty.

Oops! I don't remember changing that, but I must have. I turned off the entire HUD, as well, so I didn't see any penalty note either. Thanks for the info, thought it was a glitch.

What you are likely feeling is the excessive grip "bug" that is present. The cars have way too much grip on gravel. Try a RWD car on gravel and you will see that the problem is grip, not weight.

Good to know there's still the added realness of wildlife in D4, porkhammer has a vid of some rabbits running out in front of his car. Some other fella mentioned some parrots almost smacking his car as well

I never had the pleasure of seeing any in DR. Fingers x'd

In Spain I came very close to hitting birds, although I doubt you can actually hit them. I thought it was weird how close they came and it was a bunch of them too. Kinda threw me off and I nearly went into a ditch.

Quite a bit of hand-holding when you first start the game. Luckily you can click through much of it.

I thought DiRT Rally's difficulty was perfect to be honest, if this is easier to manage that interests me.

My copy should arrive tomorrow.

I'm still waiting for Rally Raid T1/T4s and Stock Bajas, to make a comeback in DiRT4, in a future update. That could be one of the very reasons, I could get DiRT4.*

*(Next to, Landrush races returning and the Subaru WRX STI NR4.)

I still don't understand the meaning of landrush. I will probably only ever race it on the career mode and never come back.

Such a waste of development time imo.

Very true but it's the broad audience they shot for I assume, which in the long game may help aquire more funds for the title we all hope for

D4 feels good - aside gravel. Was in historic a moment ago in Michigan with an old fwd Pugeot and I hit multiple trees no problem. I'm no diehard but I played quite a bit of DR and it feels as challenging

I'm happy to not memorize stages from the your stage feature as well though I've yet to partake

Anyone that preordered the game know about the Hyundai R5? Is it supposed to be in our garage or do we have to buy it?
You have to download it from the PSN store. The code is on the back of the inside sleeve of the game case. Hope this helps.
