I was one of the people that won a free code for the game. And I like it. Although, I don't play it like all the time. But still. And maybe we could have a racing league for the game online if you all want.

I've been messing with it for about an hour now looking at the cars, names and tracks. Looked at the setting and was very disappointed that it didn't have a wheel option. Took a quick race and noticed it's very washy with the controller and stick response is a little to sharp. If it had a dead zone setting the steering could be a little better. I love the tracks though something new. I may even try to make some of them in GT5 and see how it rolls then. I'm think about doing the Count Down. Looks like a Time Attack Challenge to me, it may be good we'll just have to see.

Is it worth a $19.99 download on PSN? I'm on the fence about getting it.

had a go on SSV8 Next Challenge for the first time in a while, after reading this thread...

to me, it felt very much like i would have expected the next Race Driver (or even better, ToCa) game from
Codemasters to feel like

a closely packed field, with no ridiculous rabbit car scurrying away into the distance

handling that isn't too demanding, but will still punish you if you think you're driving an arcade game

perhaps Blackbean would be a good company to make a proper ToCa game, if they could get the licence

i do like GRID, its lots of fun. it isn't imo though a worthy new-gen chapter in the Race Driver/ToCa series

Is the game that good you forgot about us? :P

My apologies, I haven't had a lot of time lately. I'm trying to get things out of the way so I'll have some free time for the GT5 release. :)

Personally, I feel the game is worth every bit of $20. It is very fun, but it has very arcadey handling even with all assists turned off, and there is absolutely no challenge to the game. I've been doing a season on Legend difficulty and I'm consistently 7-8 seconds ahead of the pack, without even trying.

I am a little disappointed that there is no cockpit view in the game, but the chase cam is done well, so all is good. Also, if you like trophies you might want to consider this game as well. My first race I think 6 or 7 trophies popped up. I'm not really into trophies but if you are then it should be a pretty quick platinum. I believe there is also an online multiplayer mode, but I haven't tried that so I can't comment.

All in all it is a good game, but don't expect it to be up to GT or Forza standards. I do hope they release Super Stars V8 Next Challenge here soon as well.

Hope I was of help,

Parker

I sure hope they release Next Challenge for you guys soon. It is much better, has cockpit view, evolving track conditions, great AI and tracks. And I am feeling a little bit lonely in the lobby...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is there a roof-cam as well?

I hope so too. :)

I didn't bother to see if any said anything about this. I wondered if my Driving Force GT the new one I got the other and it works. Comes up in the controller list.

Well the publisher really screwed up with this game, it's still not released in Europe on PSN and GT5 is here on wednesday so nobody in the entire continent of Europe will give this game a second glance. What a marketing and P.R disaster!

It's been available for a long time, in disc form, in Europe. In fact, the sequel has been out for a while in Europe. The only reason it was released on the NA PSN was because they never released the game here. You guys have had months, if not years, to buy this game.

I have this [Next Challenge] on the 360, having enjoyed the demo of the first game. I paid ÂŁ12 for it brand new. For that price, it doesn't do a lot wrong.

It can't be up to much then because I've never even heard of it before! Must be one of those game they sneak onto the shelf with zero publicity because it's s***

Or y'know, it's a saloon car formula from Italy that gets little worldwide coverage and they're a small publisher who tend to specialise in SBK superbikes.

Well that gives them an even bigger reason to promote the game if it was actually any good.

The game is good. I stepped in with Next Challenge and never heard of It before too. GT5 Sceptic is right, It is (or was) a small company, and didn't benefit from reviews from websites and magazines that think race games are good if you have flashy menu's and graphics without even driving It. I am exaggerating a little, but you get my point I guess.I enjoy Next Challenge, and even tend to buy the first title, just because It has a few other cars and tracks. Fo rwhat It's worth, the same company makes WRC, another good and underestimated game. Without flashy menu's.

Hi guys,

Since I work at Milestone as a developer of Superstars Next Challenge, WRC, SBKX, SBK08, SBK09, MotoGP07, MotoGP08 (and so on) I' m very happy to see that you liked the game, and I'm very interested in your feedback.

Cheers guys, have fun! Milestone do read your posts! :)

Question for 1RV1N: Now that we have more of a idea as to what the schedule for 2011 will be for the series, any idea as to when the next edition of Superstars V8 Racing will be out and when will North America be able to play it or the current edition?

By the way, I liked the music used in the promotion video for the first game. ;)

Well, one of my criticisms of the game is the weak force feedback it was and the notorious deadzone on the steering wheel. I think you guys should have addressed these issues through patch after the game being published.

That is nice to know ! I have said It in many posts, SSV8NC and WRC are underestimated by the majority. It is true about the deadzone, especially SSV8NC, but still, great games. And what you have done with V8's AI is incredible, so good.

I have one issue with SSV8NC, It locks up sometimes when saving between 2 races in a championship, I actually contacted black bean, but never got a response.

Keep up the good work, and add Spa to the next game please :)

First of thanks for some enjoyable racing titles (SCAR, Evolution GT, SSV8, SSV8NC and WRC) that even for their at times massive flaws, faults and shortcomings had something that still kept me playing. And for every new title it seems that you are slowly but surely addressing those things.

Starting with the newest first, WRC 2010, it is as said a very much underestimated game. Its biggest problem was first impressions I think. The steering and handling was a little bit of before you tweaked it in settings, but as most people would never get that far sales were already lost. To high expectations was also a problem I think. Graphics and textures is not up to par, a lot of repeating (parts of) stages, and so on. On the upside the game has a good career mode with lots of different classes to drive and a very solid and entertaining online experience. As a first effort into the world of WRC it was good in my opinion and I’m sure Milestone is working hard to sort these things for the next release in the series.

For the SSV8-series the biggest problem is the already mentioned dead zone when playing with a steering wheel, lots of players seem to have dropped the games because of this. First impressions count for an awful lot when it comes to steering behaviour, feel and handling. Get that one right and so many more will get the next game. When it came to online it worked very well except for all the possibilities for cheating and down right dirty driving that could go on with no penalty. That pretty much killed online for most people. On the plus side the game get a big thumbs up for the variety of good and “not in every racing title” tracks and solid championship experience. For the next release a career mode similar to that from WRC 2010 would enhance the game a lot I think. A few different one make series perhaps, real or fictional. Maybe also some more tracks. Milestone has a nice little back catalogue from the earlier SCAR and Evolution GT titles that might be suitable.

I for one would not mind seeing something along the lines of SCAR and Evolution GT again. I remember think that if this and that had been done a little different it would be so much better, so if updated and executed a little differently I think it could be a nice and different game to all the other racing titles out there at the moment. And possibly cheap to develop if assets could be shared with SSV8.

If Milestone would be interested in more in depth opinions feel free to PM.

:)

I have the SSv8NC ( i had to import it ), and i liked it.

WRC 2010 is a different story. PS3 users feels cheated graphics wise, PC versions looked way better. Physics/handling was not as expected, I'm into rally sims but i just felt disconnected from the car.
