I rented the game couple of days ago, enjoying it as a game so far.

Some gripes are the FFB has gone 5 out of the ten races now on the G25 and it comes back when you move on to the next race be it the full race or moving from practice to quali.

The auto save screens are driving me up the wall. The three screens that shoot in with the silly SFX "accessing, then another "accessing, then another shoots in "saving.

These pop every time you do something, why do I have to see the 3 separate screens when I go into the pit to change a setting. Why not just one screen or save in the background or turn off autosave option.

No save replays, or decent button mapping and I've turned off the thrash/speed metal music.

I'm enjoying the tracks and I think some that are in FC play and look better in terms of modeling, I hope to see them in Gran Turismo or future PC games. I shall miss them when the rent is over.

I'm on legend mode and can get 1st in quali then get a gap of 6 seconds just doing scruffy driving. I did a 1.51 for Vallelunga with lots of mistakes and it was a second clear for pole.

just got my platinum trophy! after playing so much this game I pretty much know where this game fails and where it rocks! did a comparison with SCC beta if you a beta tester you can read there the comparison!

This game is great, but it needs a wheel to be enjoyed properly. It's horrible playing with a controller. The graphics are so-so, but the physics are quite deep, better than GT5P I daresay, but not as good as FC. Biggest gripe for me is the saving screens; why the hell does it save three times?! And the clunk clunk clunk sound is driving me mad :mad:.

Haven't tried the Championship mode yet, as I've only been playing around with the tracks & cars and trying to beat the Superstars Licenses. Much more fun than GT's license tests (although easier too). I only need to get 1 more platinum (Race Scenario #4).

The best thing about this game so far though is the telemetry. Not as detailed as I would like (as is the tuning), but it'll do. I can see myself pouring over lap data much more than racing :D.

I have a question though, for the "Smells like burnt rubber" trophy, what is eactly meant by powerskid? A burnout, doughnut or just plain powersliding round corners? And is it 10 seconds continuous or not?
 
I don't have a wheel to play it on, on the 360, but I will soon get it on PS3 and play it with my G25. I still can't find it doing any justice, because I personally think this game is just another arcade game trying to act like a sim. It really can't beat the likes of FC and GT5P (soon to be GT5!!) and also there's no variety, and it has no replay value, due to the fact there's no cockpit view and very little cars and tracks to choose from. The game modes seem ok though.

Also, Monza isn't done properly at all.
 
I don't get it! Why do some of you complain about this game? It's a great game, it's fun and I like it, eventhough I have to play it with the keyboard for the time being (PC-version).

People, people, ... people, it's a budget game and their first try at a race-car-game. What do you expect! Even GT5p has its bugs! The next Superstar V8 racing will be a lot different.

From what I've read so far, the PC-version has some advantages over the 360/PS3 version. There is no auto save interruption, you can choose the graphic's settings etc... .
 
It's not a budget game in any shop I've been in. It's full price. That's down to the greed of independent games shops. None of the major outlets have the game at all.

Ok, I was playing SCC BETA with a guy called Mcleeve yesterday and we had a long conversation about this game (PS3 - G25 combo in his case).

Overall, what I got from him is: this is no sim, physics more closer to the old Toca Race Driver games. Anyway, good recreation of tracks, good fun and flawless (lag free) online.

He reported to me a bug about losing FFB while racing, but he said it was so obvious that this was a bug that he expected a patch to solve it will soon be released.

So, I decided to buy it and try it. :)
 
great news Mário! but give it at least 3 days the main difference I see with FC is the braking and turning in FC you have to break really early and start steering the wheel early too whereas with V8 you break almost inside the corner and start steering almost inside the corner too. keep in mind these are touring cars so obviously it will handle completely different from a Ferrari. but beware it took me over 50 laps to get used to FC again and will take another 50 laps to get some fast laps again with V8! keep all assists off and try to setup the car to your likings!
 
I've never experienced losing FFB while racing. But there's a huge deadzone in the middle (bigger than the deadzone in FC), and I found the FFB to be very very weak (weaker than GT5P even). I use the G25.

The physics for this game is quite alright if you turn everything off. Entry to mid corner the car squirms and feels more real-life-like than GT5P. But corner exit feels a bit weird. Powersliding feels quite dead too, which doesn't help if you're trying to save a big slide because you get no feedback from the car. Ferrari Challenge's physics is still better though. And I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of detailed settings, seeing as they bothered to include telemetry, why not include a full-blown settings menu while you're at it?

I still maintain that this is a good game for its price though (and coming from a developer that normally makes bike racing games).
 
Inspite Mcleeve's report (referred in my previous post) and after reading all the stuff in this thread I'm again undecided about buying this game, reading all these conflicting reports.

So I'll ask to the ones that bought it their impression on:

1 - Physics (please compare them to one or more games like GT5P, FC, Grid, Enthusia, TRD3, it will be easier for me to understand the "feel")

2 - AI - Do the AI drivers "know" you are there? Do they challenge and try to overtake you like in TRD? Do they act as punters, like in FC? Are they mindless bots sticking to their line no matter what?

3 - Tracks - Do you feel them (the ones you know) to be well-recreated? Are there penalty zones? Is it possible to cheat, wall-ride, etc?

4 - Online - Please tell us about online features, lobby customization, lag, invites, stats, whatever else you might consider pros and copns of V8 Sup. online.

Let's start here. From my point of view, the physics is good. Not great, but good enough. Of course, you have to turn all assists off for the simulation feel. Entering a corner is a tricky matter, if you're not smooth with your braking you'll spin. Dropping a wheel onto the grass wil also spin you out. Corner exit will also see you experiencing oversteer if you just mash the throttle. The biggest flaw with the physics is during long slides. The car feels 'dead' and unresponsive. For comparison with other games, I'd say it's as good as GT5P (though each excels in different areas), but not quite as good as FC. It's definitely far from GRID's physics.

The AI isn't as dead as GT5P's, but they're not smart either. They move off their lines and will try to overtake you if possible, but if you close the door they will still crash into you. Punting the AI also have little effect (not that I do it often), they don't spin or lose control unless it's a really big crash. When racing they take different lines, but in Licenses they don't. I'd say they're more lively than GT's AI, but less aggressive than FC's.

3 - Tracks - Do you feel them (the ones you know) to be well-recreated? Are there penalty zones? Is it possible to cheat, wall-ride, etc?

Most of the tracks are new to me, so my answer on this is somewhat limited. I only know Monza, Mugello, Vallelunga and Misano, and most of them are well recreated except Monza (too narrow). Obviously you don't see GT5P style of perfection, but they're quite good. I'd say the tracks are on par as FC's, although they're not as colourful. Trackside environments like grandstands, pit, etc are also quite 'busy' (i.e. not sterile like GT5P).

4 - Online - Please tell us about online features, lobby customization, lag, invites, stats, whatever else you might consider pros and copns of V8 Sup. online.

I haven't tried out online yet, so I can't comment on this.

As a final note, I suggest you rent it first before buying. This game doesn't appeal to everyone, I have to admit. But if you're looking for a good simulation that offers straghforward, simple racing, this game's for you :).
 
I nearly bought this game but the ridiculous price turned me off, $100AUD!.:grumpy: I also wanted to check here and see if it's a good game, the posts here seem encouraging. I will probably buy it when it gets cheaper, not paying $100...
 
I've just played the demo and it's shockingly bad. The physics are terrible, even with all of the driving aids off the car feels like it's steering from the center on a pole and instead of oversteering when you apply the power in a RWD car in a slow corner, it just understeers for a bit and then spins out in a random direction. :lol: Oh dear. I'll be deleting the demo very quickly.
 
sorry for the horrendous bump, but i must disagree. i'm off work for the week, and i've been delving deeper into V8 Superstars

imo its very good 👍
 
Yesterday evening I played Superstars in 3D (anaglyph). The bumper view in 3D is really realistic and it feels like you're actually driving on that track yourself instead of on a monitor/TV. You have the feeling that you're going up and down on the track when driving over some small hills (don't know the right word).

The problem is to get the anaglyph view right. It's difficult to get the right setting. I was messing around with convergence and separation setting and messed up so badly that I can't it right anymore.

I even tried GRID demo and this is also very nice. It would be nice to have a real stereoscopic TV/monitor without having to use some sort of glasses (anaglyph, shutter glasses, HD Chromadepth 3D glasses, 3D mounted display = VR glasses etc...).

I don't know if it's good for your brain to use anaglyph glasses but I'm sure (my opinion) that it is not good to use shutter glasses.

Oww, I almost forgot. I can play these two games on pc in full 3D for FREE! No need to buy a nVidia shutter glasses with a Samsung 120Hz monitor.

Here are 2 screenshots I made. Superstars V8 racing in 3D. The settings are still not optimal and it's also possible that the these settings are right for other people.

It would be nice to have a real stereoscopic TV/monitor without having to use some sort of glasses (anaglyph, shutter glasses, HD Chromadepth 3D glasses, 3D mounted display = VR glasses etc...).

That technology is being developed as we speak. No clue how long before it is affordable, but I'm excited for it to say the least. All I've read is that they work like those 3D post cards that change the image as you rotate the card. The jagged surface reflects two independent images to each eye, allowing for convergence-based 3D viewing.
 
A few years ago, I was able to bodge together a pair of 3D glasses out of a pair of safety glasses that had a single lens frame. What I did was I cut a clear lens and darker shaded(greenish-tinted) lens right down the middle where they would be going over the bridge of the nose, then I would put them in the frame with the darker lens going over the right eye. Not much hardware or software is needed because it would give you a 3D feel to what you would be watching on the monitor. :)

Going back to the game, the website for it is back online after it wen't down for a few days. I only wish this game was available to us in North America.
 
You don't need any hardware, unless you call those anaglyph glasses hardware, only a driver. Anyone can download this driver, and it's perfectly legal. No crack, no keygen or what so ever needed.

The anaglyphic part of this driver is free. If you want to enjoy better 3D graphics, you will have to get a 3D monitor and shutter glasses and pay to unlock to full potentional of this driver.

It's similar as nVidia's 3D vision. You also need a driver, a samsung 120Hz monitor and a pair of shutter glasses.
