Personally, I like the personality you have given to Loeb, Kakashi. Most people just despise Loeb and view him as someone who refuses to lose to others no matter what, but in Louis' story, he is just another eager yet friendly driver, who wants to bring the best out of anyone he races.

And this time, he wants to bring the best out of Louis himself...

Louis, not only in terms of looks, but also shares the same "never giving up" and "refusing to lose" fighting spirit that Loeb has, as evidenced by his street racing days and his clashes with Rob.

Simply put, it will be the clash of Sebastien Loebs, the young vs. the veteran.

I knew that much about Louis' personality, with him being a young Loeb in spirit and skill, sharing even some of his looks. Just like Loeb, Louis wants nothing but the best rivals, and will not stop even if he's falling behind them.

Obviously, now it'll be the time to see how will this youth vs experience battle go, in the snowy roads of Chamonix...

Just as about as I am immersing myself into a new field of racing, along with briefly meeting the legendary French race car driver none other than Sebastien Loeb...

...a random challenger in a Citroen C4 Rally Car gave a sign of challenge. Just who are you? You have some guts there.

20683618309_4b22d76e5f_c.jpg

And without any slight hint of hesitation, that car overtook me. Great, I have snow all over the windshield!

20247774034_82c105e477_c.jpg

Loeb: "I want to see if you truly are living up to their expectations. To think you finished in Le Mans. That's not something a mere racer can do."

He must have been a local. To think he can tackle the corners much faster without fear. His lines are perfect.

20682309020_152b37b777_c.jpg

And I'm getting smoked, little by little.

20683616299_e5a6355224_c.jpg

Loeb: "I've watched you all along ever since you've started winning races in France. You're quite the reckless one, much like myself 10 years ago. And that's a good thing, having brought me to where I am today."

Cut me some slack, will you? Don't expect me to master snow rallying in one sitting!

20249356213_605d6408a6_c.jpg

Loeb: "I must bring out your best. That's the agenda for today."

20249355563_6364d151f4_c.jpg

Loeb: "Never, for one moment, let off. The harshest lesson that life taught is, is to win, no matter what. It's easier said than done."

I'm trying to brake late and hit the accelerator immediately, turn and countersteer. None of those work, and I'm even making things worse.

20249355313_224a22ef18_c.jpg

Calm down. This is just a practice run, not an official race. Yet the urge to win is here. It's in my system. Every challenger is to be accepted, and defeat them.

Next corner... shoot! Too much speed! The car's understeering!

And off to the ditch I go.

20683614889_75ac5ca5eb_c.jpg

I'll let you go for now. You caught me unprepared. But next time we meet...

...you'll face my wrath.

20682306340_85bbddc748_c.jpg

Loeb: "It seems that you haven't mastered this course at all. Is it your first time here? I would understand. But commit this to memory. Use this as an urge to fight back and win next time. I'm not going to consider this as a win on my part. Don't get me wrong, you are truly a great driver. You are now just entering into a different challenge. Youth can be a wonderful thing. Cherish it, and someday it will bring you to new heights. Being reckless isn't all that bad."

I returned to my team, with that crushing feeling of defeat. I was never defeated that way. That driver left a thorn, that stabbed my pride.

Stephan: "What happened? Why the sudden return? Is there anything wrong with the car?"

I take off my helmet and just sit down. I'm internalizing everything, including that brief skirmish.

Louis: "Nothing. Someone just..."

Stephan: "Eh?"

Louis: "I encountered someone as I ran along."

Stephan: "Who could that be? We're the only team here."

Louis: "A Citroen C4 Rally Car, with Red Bull livery."

I noticed Toru and Nina's gasps as reactions. Mr. Stephan, on the other hand, just giggled.

Stephan: "Hehehehehehe... that prick actually chased you down?"

Louis: "Who? Do you know him?"

Stephan: "Hehehehehehe! He's the man you met a while ago! Sebastien Loeb! He is the only one who can pilot that car to crazy speeds in rallying. He has no fear. He's got... balls."

That was Loeb?! So that wasn't just an ordinary greeting. I knew it. He was onto something a while ago. Was he testing me?

Stephan: "That man can drive anything to victory. May it be a Rally Car, Touring Car, or even a Le Mans Prototype."

Such credentials. But would those be enough to intimidate me? I say not. That just means one thing.

I found a new Rival.

THE END

LE ROI DE CHAMONIX
(The King of Chamonix)

leroidechamonixtitlecover.jpg

With the demons of his past finally have been taken care of, Louis Montagny can start his new life in peace and everything is back to normal to Blue Streak Racing as well.

Shifting to a new path with a clean slate would also have a new set of challenges. Upon entry in the snow rallying tournament in Chamonix, Louis finds one in an instant, in the form of a fellow French racing driver none other than Sebastien Loeb.

It may seem that this won't just be playing on ice.

Location: Yuki's home, Ginza, Tokyo, Japan
Time: 4 pm

A large television set is showing the rolling credits. Another movie has ended, time to switch for a new one. Yuki today is having a movie marathon of Hollywood movies in which he believes can improve his fluency in English.

Just as about he is to switch to the next one, a door bell interrupts. He then stands up and looks over the window, opening the curtains.

He sees a familiar face, none other than Iwasaki coming out of his blue Impreza.

Yuki: "Iwasaki, huh?"

Descending the stairs, and then he immediately lets Iwasaki in.

Iwasaki: "For someone your age, you're sure to keep your house nicely."

Yuki: "I already know how to clean my own bathroom when I was six."

Iwasaki: "Hehehehehehe. Hey, I know what happened lately, and I think it's time for me to cheer you up. Want to go out for a drive?"

Yuki: "Sure. Let me just turn off the television upstairs and fix my room for a bit. I've heard too much English slang. Give me a minute."

After those simple chores, they leave and headed to Kanagawa.

chamonixstart.jpg

Yuki simply observes Iwasaki's driving style, from steering to footwork. He can easily give out a feedback, but...

Yuki: "It's been quite a while since I haven't seen you driving this Impreza again. What happened? R34 stressing you out too much?"

Iwasaki: "Part of it, yeah. And this Impreza is much more suited for the touge than the R34. In fact, I restored this car in the hopes of having a revenge match with Takuma and his FD. But your cousin has moved to UK, am I right?"

Yuki: "With his family, yes."

chamonixstart_1.jpg

Iwasaki: "Missing opportunities can sometimes hurt much. Now, on to the meat of the problem. What are your plans?"

Yuki: "I'm going to Germany next week, as I'm selected as a driver in snow rallying tournament in Chamonix. For me, it's an opportunity too good to pass up."

Iwasaki: "Heh. Lucky you. Why say that?"

chamonixstart_2.jpg

Yuki: "Retribution. I cannot simply let him walk away with a win."

Iwasaki: "I was about to say that, and I think it's a good move on your part. To think a foreigner who lived here for a brief amount of time managed to outrun you in the downhill. If I were on your shoes, it would be too hard for me to get over with. It's something that can't be taken out of the system easily.

Are you feeling that?"

Yuki briefly looks down, but then he clenched his fists for a second.

Yuki: "Yes. And it's still burning, that feeling of crushing defeat."

Iwasaki: "The world is full of people like him. Who could've thought we'd bump into them, eh? Destiny has its ways."

Yuki: "This time, I'll be controlling my fate. I will crush that foreigner, in his own land."

Time: 12 pm, the next day

Brake hard... turn in... and bury the throttle. Let the 4WD system take care of the traction.

chamonixstart_3.jpg

I cannot afford to mess up here! I have to beat his time! He put a thorn in me, and so I shall do the same to him!

chamonixstart_4.jpg

Steering a car in snow proved to be getting more and more difficult. I have to time it right... unlike in the tarmac.

chamonixstart_5.jpg

Good, I'm in line. Just bury the pedal, unleash all 350 horses.

Next corner...

Shoot! I'm coming close to the wall as the car slides! Gotta apply opposite lock!

chamonixstart_6.jpg

Damn... that cost me my speed. I have been running for several laps already. Am I that pushy?

I crossed the line, and I actually asked Nina to stand there to record the time. I wonder what I came up with this time?

chamonixstart_7.jpg

Nina: "3 minutes and 42 seconds. Still 4 seconds slower than Loeb."

Dammit! I've been averaging 3:42. For that to be consistent, it just means that I have a long way to go."

Nina: "Please return to our tent and have a rest. It's not recommended to strain your body too much, Monsieur Louis."

Louis: "Roger that."

And so I returned as instructed. Maybe I do need to take a break and... chill.

Nina: "Here. A warm bottle of water for you."

Louis: "Thank you."

Stephan: "I'm quite impressed though, your lap time improved by 3 seconds, actually. You were really flailing in our previous session."

Louis: "But still, at this rate I'm too far from Loeb's. We've done everything we can in the car setting, so that just leaves the driver factor. I really need to brush up.

It's truly a challenge to drive with very little grip. I had no problems in rain, but snow is a different story after all. For one, steering has gotten harder, it's like I have to apply even more."

Toru: "If only she's here, though... I've got to check."

Eh? Toru's up to something.

Louis: "Toru? Who is she?"

Toru can give mischievous ideas sometimes, especially with that grin on his face. But I think he's onto something serious.

Toru: "Heh. Looks like we're heading back to tarmac for this, but what she's going to teach you will be truly helpful in any rally stage."

So Toru is suggesting some "lessons". I wonder what could that be?

Louis: "I'm interested."

Toru: "But let me check first, she might still be in Europe."

Immediately, Toru reaches for his phone...

Toru: "Moshi moshi. Hishashiburi! Ano... Europa ni mada iru ka no? Sou da na.... Darega omae ni aitai da...Furansujin da yo... Ah... Paris de au? Wakatta. Arigatou. Jaa na."

("Hello. It's been a while! Um... are you still in Europe? I see... Someone wants to meet you. He's French. Oh... we'll meet in Paris? Got it, thanks. See ya.)

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

- Looks like the woman Toru is referring to might be familiar. Let's jog our minds here and guess who is she. :sly:

Hmm... A woman who did rallying once before, and is Japanese? I'm sure Maria may have an idea or two. You know, it could be a rainy day for Louis when he has to endure her harsh training... :sly:

Not really. She's a different woman, and hasn't returned for a long time.

She drives a Z that has a movie reference on it. :sly:

Oooh, she's a character from a previous story of yours...

Fair enough, then I don't exactly have a clue. But those who remember your old fanfics well will be capable of doing so. :sly:

Page 2: Detour

Seeing that I am struggling in driving on ice, Toru proposed an idea that he believes can help me get through with it.

We're going to meet a woman, who can teach me some tricks, Toru said. But why on tarmac?

Anyhow, with Stephan's blessing, we'll go through with it if it means increasing our chances of winning.

Two days later, Toru and I head to Paris. However upon arriving there, he got a call from that woman again, changing our meeting place to a suburb. It's not that far, thankfully. Plus, this Citroen Berlingo van I'm driving is one of the best. Buy one, if I were you.

Who is that woman, anyway? And silly me, I didn't bother to ask about that.

Louis: "May I ask who that woman is?"

Toru: "She says she wants to introduce to you personally."

Huh... a special request, huh?

Louis: "I'm assuming she's Japanese, the way you talk to her over the phone."

Toru: "Yes. She and her drifting team are in Europe for the global drifting tournament. Since they're on a break, she's willing to help us out."

Drifting, huh? So I'm assuming she's going to teach me that. I don't really get it. Why get so excited in seeing a cloud of smoke and cars going sideways slowly? Isn't oversteer a bad thing?

We arrived at the spot 20 minutes later. It's an arena, huh? Quite big. I'm only hearing revving engines, and none of the crowd cheers. Perhaps it's a practice.

What I first saw upon entering? This.

Background Music

20983980041_7699597ff4_c.jpg

Louis: "I'm going to be honest. Are you sure this is a good idea? I don't want disturbing other people."

Toru: "We won't be here if she doesn't like to meet us. Plus, this is the only technique for you to play around on ice!"

Louis: "First, I do know how to combat oversteer, when the rear starts to hang out. Apply opposite lock and feather the throttle if possible."

Toru: "But in rallying, you actually need to oversteer, if you want the car to turn."

We watch that Nissan perform a long drift. So there is grace beneath that cloud of smoke after all.

20966665522_47e5424516_c.jpg

And it keeps on going sideways...

20788559168_15fa5a6837_c.jpg

Still sideways. Normally, a race car driver would end a slide immediately in order to recover in corner exit.

20355419133_1a10d89112_c.jpg

Man... when will that stop? It's like a crab. I never even drifted as a street racer in Redview!

Oops... I jinxed it. That stealthy Nissan sports car did stop. Coming out of the car is woman with a figure. She's coming this way.

Juri: "Ooh... hisashiburi, Toru-chan." (It's been a while, Toru.)

And her tone of her voice is sensual. Plus her clothing looks the part as well.

Toru: "Toru-chan ja nai yo! Otoko ni natta yo!" (It's not Toru-chan! I'm a grown man!)

After that brief bickering, the woman proceeds to stare at me. She then looks down first, then up to my face.

Juri:
"Omae no tomodachi? Furansujin mo sei ga takai to omowanakatta. Kawaii sou da na. Oishii darou?

(Your friend? I never thought the French can be tall too. He's cute, actually. Is he delicious?)

Toru:
"Zen otoko wa tabemono darou? Kowai da ze." (Are all men your food? You're scary)

Juri:
"Hey you. Your stare means something. What's your name?"

Louis: "Louis Montagny. Pleasure to meet you."

Juri: "First of all, what's with you French for messing up pronunciation of names? Like you say "Louis" as "Louie". But hey, I don't intend learning your language anyway."

Now she's getting... too close to me. Her body gestures are too suggestive, as she goes around inspecting me. Okay... this is getting uncomfortable, now her finger is on my chin, as she looks straight up to my face very closely.

Juri: "You're something I can sink my teeth into. Interesting."

She then puts her tongue out, slithering around her lips. What are you trying to imply, woman?"

Juri: "Oh, almost forgot. My name is Juri Takeuchi. That name will forever be in your head, big boy. You can come at me anytime you want. I'm ready..."

Hey, I'm not here for something erotic.

Juri: "Toru-chan, kare ni oshiete ageru? Sore kara, tanoshii da yo! (Toru-chan, I'm going to teach him? If that's the case, then this will be fun!)

Toru:
"Haiii, hai... Rallying wo kachitai kara. (Yes yes. We want to win rallying, that's why.)

Juri:
"Sore jaa... nakama no kuruma wo kariru. Matte ne." (Okay then. I'll just borrow a teammate's car. Just wait.)

That woman then heads to her teammates, talking to them. What's the deal with her?

Toru: "Sorry about that awkward introduction. She can be like that, but she's a great drifter."

She then calls us out. Upon seeing an array of cars presumably tuned for drifting, she shows a car that we can use, and Toru gives me the key.

Juri: "We're going to have a rough ride. Hehehehehehe... just kidding! You will take the wheel. I'll be the passenger."

Louis: "Got it."

I then take off my jacket, leaving my sleveless undershirt on. You know, I can be worked up so much when I'm doing something for the very first time.

Juri: "Oooooh... such biceps. Looks like I'm going to extend my stay here in France for a while. You've got nice cuts, big boy. Mind if I have some?"

Huh? Now this is getting creepy.

Toru: "Uhhhh... can't you just two get this over with?"

Louis: "Don't worry about it, Toru. I'll be fine."

So we head out. I'm trying not to look at Juri as much as I can. Another eye contact and she might take off my clothes.

20789718019_af8e05a7fe_c.jpg

Juri: "So big boy, you haven't done drifting at all?"

Louis: "None at all. But I do catch a car's oversteer on corner exit."

Juri: "That's very typical for a precision race car driver. But in drifting or rallying, you need to lose yourself and your car. Just like me... I always lose myself and go wild.

Okay, first off, accelerate immediately as you turn on that next corner. That will start the slide."

20983977551_701390b265_c.jpg

Doing so can induce the car to oversteer. That's something race car drivers try to avoid, as they always "feather" the throttle.

Without further excuses, I followed her instruction. Full throttle on steering...

...and here I go.

20976500775_2dba51e422_c.jpg

Great... I spun on the first try.

Juri: "First-timers always mess up. It's a fact. But hey, I get to spend so much time with you. This is going to be... fun."

There she goes again, with her erotic expletives. But I have no choice if I aim to win in Chamonix! Looks like I'm going to have to bear with her for a little while.

End of Page 2

So this is Louis' trainer... He is going to have to endure one hell of a creepy teacher if he wants to defeat Seb. Thank godness he is not married... yet.

Also, a Sileighty? Picture perfect car when it comes to drifting training. Good choice of ride there.

Page 3: Unconventional

A detour is in order, if I have to prevail over Loeb. Toru suggested I learn the art of drifting, which can be useful in rallying.

I have thought that it will all go smoothly, but it seems that this unconventional discipline of motorsport has completely taken me off guard. I have thought all along that it's all for show.

And then there's the matter of the teacher.... she's weird, and creepy to an extent. She's getting on to me, for sure.

20815321299_d7b8538131_c.jpg

Juri: "Okay, let's move. It's normal to mess up, I know. We're not perfect.... and that turns me on."

Here she goes again.

Louis: "Uhhhh..."

Juri: "Next, you'll be facing continuous corners. But to start a drift right, you must have a lot of power, hence this car has. So slam the throttle once again while turning. Then if you want the car to change direction, simply let off the gas, then turn to the intended direction, and immediately get back up the throttle."

Okay, those were a lot of steps. All right, calm down. Do this slowly but surely. Turn, then apply suddenly the throttle.

21002115525_c8852c10c3_c.jpg

The rear end breaks again, so naturally I have to countersteer.

20975872036_862c91a94a_c.jpg

Juri: "That's it, big boy. I want more!"

That sounded suggestive, but I think she means I have to keep it going. This is where the feathering-the-throttle part go in.

20814208298_2ee839d15d_c.jpg

Juri: "Sweet... you've just hit the clipping point. I guess I have my man."

If you intend to teach me, I suggest you'd get a little more serious.

Next corner, take the foot off the gas, turn left, and hit back the throttle. Countersteer.

20814042340_b256b4234f_c.jpg

Juri: "You're quite a fast learner."

Louis: "It's just instinct to control the car, am I right?"

Juri: "Relying on instinct. You're just as animal as I am. Looks I truly found someone whom I can play with. Ahahahahahaha!"

Stop distracting me! I'm already doing good.

20379496484_18d1218a10_c.jpg

As a result, I got a little off the track. Great.

20975870286_10e4d43700_c.jpg

Juri: "It's also big points if the rear almost scrapes the wall. Don't be afraid to go all out. Out-in-out technique also applies in drifting. And pro drifters use that."

20379495134_9113ddbd6e_c.jpg

Juri: "Now, to extend the drift, kick the clutch!"

Clutch? Drifters use the clutch for drifting too? I thought it's merely for moving the car and changing gears.

21002112345_0b5eebe45a_c.jpg

Juri: "Looks like we're not going to make it."

Louis: "Huh?"

And BAM! I feel bad when I crash someone else's car...

21002111805_7f06e56d23_c.jpg

Juri: "Hmmmmm.... it's all right. I'll take care of the damage. Tell you what, why don't you go back here next week, with your own car of course. It has to have three pedals, an LSD, and of course rear-wheel drive. Doesn't matter if it's stock."

Own... car? My Peugeot 205 got burned into crisp, and then the Murcielago SV is being fixed at the moment, and it's four-wheel drive too.

Louis: "Okay then. I'll work on it."

Juri: "You know, I take care of my friends. Which is why you need to bring your own car. I can't let my teammate down because of this."

Louis: "I'm sorry."

Juri: "Don't sweat it."

All of a sudden, she shows a simple smile. Huh... she's nice after all. To think she'll handle the damage.

We headed back to pit garage, and I apologized to the car's owner as well. Juri assures that she'll be here next week to continue teaching me.

After that brief talk, Toru and I leave the arena, heading back to the headquarters.

Toru: "Looks like you did well back there, considering it's your first time to drift."

Louis: "I then realized, it's also a test of skill. No wonder drifting attracts legions of fans all over the world, despite having underground roots."

Toru: "That's true. Sometimes it's boring to watch cars go on circles tackling the best lines precisely. It won't hurt to let loose for a while. So, when are we going to buy a car for drifting?"

Louis: "Shall we do it tomorrow? We only have a month left before the Chamonix Time Trials begin, you know? We're tight on schedule."

Toru: "Got it. I'll chip in."

Louis: "Hey, you don't have to."

************************************************************

In just a span of two days, we managed to secure the car. I'm fond of French performance cars, that's the extent on how I love my motherland. But most of them aren't rear-wheel drive at all.

So as a result, we settled for this. We brought it to the headquarters for Mr. Stephan and Nina to see:

20975868516_8652d4ac0b_c.jpg

Mind you, we didn't spend any bit of the team's funds for this.

Rear-wheel drive? Check.

LSD? Check.

Lots of power? Check.

Nina: "The BMW 135i. It's an ideal drift car. Short wheelbase, front engine and rear-wheel drive are a good combo for going sideways. The turbocharged engine can help you burn the rear wheels immediately for a drift.

Stephan: "This can help you. I know it's unconventional, but sometimes you'd have to go out of your way if you want to gain something. I have finally seen the meaning of Toru's suggestion.

But do note, we only have a month left. I propose you do it alternately. Practice on tarmac with that BMW, and then apply drifting on snow with our Subaru. Finding the difference between the two is important, Louis.

I'm glad you are still eager to learn something new, despite your high level of skill. I like people who keep pushing themselves to grow, and not being complacent with what they have right now."

Louis: "I have Loeb to beat. If this is the way I can get even with him, then I will do it. Besides, Chamonix is getting too cold nowadays..."

End of Page 3

Page 4: Grudge Match

I'm finally in. I have bitten by the Drifting bug. That form of motorsport keeps me intriguing. For the rest of the week, I lightly tuned the Beemer myself, once again using my funds. Plus, I took time to research on that form of motorsport, and it turns out to be started by the Japanese as a solution to their understeering cars in their street races on the mountain roads.

So what I've learned should work in Rallying as well, since if you turn the car normally like in a circuit, it will UNDERSTEER, that you need to upset the rear wheels for you to conquer the tight turns having very little grip on your disposal. I also looked up on Rallying techniques, and so far I find them similar.

Of course, another challenge comes in - how to differentiate, and adjust my drifting styles for RWD and 4WD cars.

Without thinking that much further, we're back at the arena. Toru is sitting on the bleachers, and will alert me if Juri has arrived. Of course, I immediately head into practice.

21013301662_e5fecae81f_c.jpg

Reign in the power. With over 400 horsepower now, surely initiating a slide should be a walk in the park.

Okay, then let off the pedal, turn, and get the power back up and running. Apply opposite lock immediately!

20835308908_772bb0698f_c.jpg

Rats! Too much power!

I have to make a confession though... while I miss my Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 so much, I find this car equally engaging. Hence, this Beemer will be the replacement.

20996968216_e768d28fa2_c.jpg

Toru: "Juri's here. She'll get in your car."

Louis: "Okay."

Another sensual session is in order. I gotta keep my composure once again.

She gets in and straps on the harness. Hey, why are you getting close again, woman? You're smelling me!

Juri: "You smell really good. None of those disgusting sweat odors. I'll take a bite on ya soon enough."

No... not her tongue again. She purses it around her lips once more.

Juri: "Just messin' with your head. You gotta chill, big boy! Life is too short. Have fun! Okay, let's get moving."

21013300762_23f74aa531_c.jpg

Time to resume the lessons. Though I have no time to fool around.

Juri: "I assumed you practiced before I came along, judging the tire marks I saw. All right, let me see first if you've improved even for a bit."

Let me show you, then.

I got all the basics down. Even drifting needs careful application of power.

20996967756_7e542b4424_c.jpg

Juri: "Good... good."

Thankfully my efforts start to pay off. I have a month to toughen up. I have to be in my best form in the championship!

21030791491_1ca521867a_c.jpg

Rinse and repeat.

20835306968_6986743ac9_c.jpg

Juri: "You are starting to become interesting, big boy. No wonder the entire country utters your name. I made a little research."

Approaching the next corner. Tap the brake and turn vigorously.

20835124420_391bcb66bf_c.jpg

And keep on drifting.

20835123890_ba16b705c0_c.jpg

Toru: "Wow... he keeps the car drifting! You're truly amazing, Louis-san. I'm actually starting to get jealous."

And then the last corner, which is a long one. This, according to Toru, is where the "Clutch Kick" drift comes to play.

So I briefly stepped on the clutch.

21013297882_8acfc4df21_c.jpg

Juri: "That's more like it! You're becoming a pro at this!"

21013297502_9808afa423_c.jpg

And it ends there at the main straight.

Juri: "Turn the wheel."

Louis: "Already? But..."

She suddenly pulls the handbrake. What are you trying to do?!

My reflexes kick in to countersteer in an instant.

20402145663_07ef82a343_c.jpg

Since the car is going a bit too fast, it spun out. It all happened too fast the moment she pulled the handbrake, and I wasn't able to brake nor control the throttle.

21030788491_93c9664eda_c.jpg

Juri: "Looks like we'll be here all day. I'm loving this."

Louis: "What was that? Why did you pull the handbrake at the straight?"

Juri: "Drifters begin their slide as they approach the corner. It adds more zing. Who knows, maybe you can use it in rallying too."

Louis: "I see."

She may be right. I guess we'll be here until sundown. I won't leave until I get all the basics hammered down.

At night, Yuki arrives at the headquarters straight from the airport. Obviously tired from the long flight, he goes immediately to his sleeping quarters while awaiting for dinner to be served.

Having placed his luggage, he hears someone knocking on the door.

Takuma: "Yuki, Hiroyuki-san wants to see you."

Yuki: "Got it."

The cousins head to see Hiroyuki who is looking at the Celica rally car.

20835121760_b83dd89853_c.jpg

Yuki: "That car brought back some memories. Though it failed to capture the win."

Hiroyuki: "We'll be using it once again for snow rallying. We're limited in terms of horsepower though. The regulations state the maximum allowable horsepower is 350."

Yuki: "I see. But I will make it triumph this time around."

Takuma: "You seem more confident than usual."

Yuki: "This is an opportunity. I have an agenda, that's why I willingly joined."

Takuma: "Agenda?"

Yuki: "I won't let Louis Montagny walk away with a win, having finally known his name. I'll scar him. His winning "streak" will end soon."

Takuma: "Talk about vendetta. It's easier said than done, Yuki."

Yuki: "I'm very well aware of that. He and I will race... with our lives on the line."

Takuma: "You are creepy at times, for your age."

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

- Yuki, I'm not sure if betting your life against someone like Louis is a good idea. But we'll see. He can get scary at times. :scared:

- You might be wondering, how long will this drifting "mini arc" will last. It won't be that long, as it will end at the next page. After all, we're focusing on rallying here. Louis just needs to get the basics down, if he intends to increase his chances of winning.

Yuki is not backing down from a challenge, but I hope he's ready to deal with the consequences... One does not simply get in the middle of Louis' rivalry with Seb, that's simply a dumb idea. Clearly Yuki missed what happened when a third party tried to get involved, right in the middle of Rob vs Louis in Le Mans... And that did not end well for said third party, I'll leave it at that.

Especially now that Louis is quickly getting the grasp of drifting itself... :scared:

Next day...

driftmaster.jpg

Time to wrap up. I am strapped for time. I've got less than a month left. Juri understands this as well, so she now observes what I've learned, without even giving comments midway. I've been drifting for a few laps, but I don't have any spare set of tires.

driftmaster_1.jpg

I gotta jump over this hurdle.

Clutch kick... countersteer.

driftmaster_2.jpg

Don't lose it... don't lose it!

driftmaster_3.jpg

Juri: "You just nailed it, big boy!"

driftmaster_4.jpg

Louis: "Thank you, Juri."

Juri: "Oh don't thank me just yet. Let's get out of the car."

So I think this wraps everything up. It's quite brief, I know. But this would be more than enough. Forgive me, Juri, but I cannot afford any more side trips.

Juri: "So I guess this will be the last day."

Toru: "Sorry Juri, we have a championship to focus."

Juri: "I see. Hey..."

Eh? Where's her sensual tone? Don't be sad, you can watch if you want. You're a nice woman after all.

Juri: "Before you leave, allow me to give you this."

All of a sudden.... OW!!! WHAT DID YOU DO?! YOU PINCHED MY GROIN!

Juri: "One last touch before I go. Heehee... "

Louis: "Owwww.... hey!"

Juri: "It's a good luck charm, big boy. And my eyes are on ya. Farewell! Ganbaru yo!"

You... well, beneath her strong, yet sensual demeanor beats the heart of a sweet girl. I kinda like her now. And to think she taught me without asking anything in return.

Time to hit back the snow. I can wait for the weekend, though.

And I guess what she just did will wear off later. That really hurt.

Once again, Mr. Stephan called for an assembly, to resume the practice runs. I have an agenda for today - to apply what I've learned for that week and shorten that huge gap of our lap times. I hope Loeb is watching.

driftmaster_5.jpg

Before, I was struggling with understeer here. But thanks to my brief time at the Arena, that one is now a thing of the past.

The trick here after all, is to turn much earlier, like in drifting. The little grip you have means that you have a small amount of steering feel, hence the need of early turn in and application of power like you do when initiating a slide.

The "Power-Over" drift is applicable here as well.

driftmaster_6.jpg

Minimal to no countersteer effort is needed since the Subaru is four-wheel drive. Plus, having learned the lines of the course thanks to my back-to-back driving here, there are actually only a few corners where drifting is necessary.

driftmaster_7.jpg

But still, there are similarities between Rallying and Drifting, and I'm starting to see them.

driftmaster_8.jpg

On tight turns, that's where drifting comes in.

driftmaster_9.jpg

And once again, I'm doing a four-wheel drift with zero countersteer. Comparing it to my previous run, I felt that I am faster. The lines I take are very ideal.

driftmaster_10.jpg

I'm back in my groove. That feeling of defeat is totally washed away. I'm ready, Loeb. I'm not going to be a laughingstock in the championship for sure! My only goal is to get even...

driftmaster_11.jpg

Nina: "3 minutes, and 39.5 seconds. Great improvement!"

Whoa... wait, what?! Is my radio broken? I actually improved by 3 seconds?! My mind is blown...

Well if that's the case, I need a few more practice runs. I'm this close in breaking your record, Loeb.

End of Page 5

Attention:

The next page will be posted tomorrow.

The reason? Because I unexpectedly found a car that dances gracefully on ice.

In truth, the car wasn't supposed to be the part of the story at all. It's not even in the final draft when I wrote this arc. I made that unexpected discovery just this morning while I was killing some time off before I leave for the Japanese language school. Upon arriving home, I dedicated the afternoon for setting it up. Then after dinner, I finally able to make it stable on the snow-covered roads of Chamonix.

The great thing about it is that it's faster than the Subaru, despite having the same horsepower and only driven by two wheels at the back.

So without further adieu, here is the car in question coming shortly in this arc:

21087040785_8eb6e22b13_c.jpg

(And yes, it's detuned to 350 HP...)

Wow. Simply, wow...
Of all cars, I wasn't expecting a RUF, a car which is notoriously tricky to handle in rough road conditions, to be a gracious snow dancer. But then again, people do run 911s in rally racing, so why not attempt the same in the snow roads of Chamonix?

Kakashi, color me impressed, once again. Your car choice has to be one of the most unique ones I have ever seen. 👍

Time does sure pass by very quickly eh? For the remainder of the practice time, Toru and I honed our skills in Chamonix.

Plus, the rooms are all sold out. I feel pity for those who only wish to ski. The rallying event sure does attract enthusiasts. Everyone wants to catch a piece of the action.

So here's how the tournament runs:

- Basically it's purely a time trial event. The fastest time wins, obviously, and there are also car classes based on modifications.

- We are competing in the top class - the R Class. This is where you can go all out on modifications. You can strip out the car, make radical suspension tuning, and modify the drivetrain. The only restriction we have, is that we are limited to 350 horsepower.

Too bad though, there won't be duels. Safety reasons are obviously cited. However, I'll do everything I can to initiate a rematch with Loeb, even if it has to happen outside the tournament proper. Probably a grudge match from other teams can be expected too.

And...

Dream Alliance is here?!

Louis: "That's their chief. That old man. Dream Alliance is here."

Toru: "It looks like this can get as intense as the FIA WEC back then."

Nina: "A Celica Rally car."

Stephan: "They sure have the guts to send out an aged car for this. But in rallying, age doesn't matter. Even a tech savvy car will find it challenging to keep itself planted on ice."

While the crew is setting up the Subaru, I am leisurely watching the other competitors blast by...

20462138074_4770b9a01d_c.jpg

21084768695_22fe902637_c.jpg

There are some who are competing in the Production Class - cars that have limited modifications and maintaining their street legal status.

20463702203_d566f387a2_c.jpg

Quite an interesting turn out. But I have to supervise our car. The crew is hard at work for the entire month. How about I shop gifts for them this upcoming Christmas?

Out of a sudden, Nina taps my back.

Nina: "Someone named Yuki Kanonji of the Dream Alliance wishes to see you."

Background Music

Louis: "Yuki?"

I looked around, and a familiar face is coming this way. He's the young man I encountered in Japan, and beaten soundly.

Yuki: "It's been a while, Louis Montagny."

Louis: "How you've been?"

Yuki: "Just doing great. And actually I will represent my team. I'll put up a challenge for you. You know, what happened before... I can't let it easily slip by."

I can tell... he's egging for a rematch. But through a time trial. All right, I'm--

Toru: "I'll handle him."

Louis: "Toru?"

Toru: "Omae... Louis-san ni shiriai ka? Ii kedo... Omae wa sennen hayasugiru yo, Louis-san o taosu. Ore wa yaru."
(You. You know Louis-san? That's good... but you are a thousand years too early to beat him. I'll take you on.)

Naturally, Yuki has to devise a comeback. Judging from the tone of their voices, they're having it rough.

Yuki: "Nandatto? Dare ga?" (What is this? Who are you?)

Toru: "Tanaka Toru da. Yoku oboete yo. Ore wo nikumu darou. Yoroshiku." (Toru Tanaka. Remember it well. You might as well detest me. Nice meeting you.)

Whew, Yuki decides to leave us, heading back to his team. Toru, I may not understand Japanese, but you talk mighty for your age...

Toru: "He can't just come here and talk so high and mighty! That's just damn disrespectful."

Louis: "Toru, I've beaten him once, so I think it's just normal."

Toru: "Look, I can understand people like him. We're reckless young men. I also know his reputation very well in Japan, and that's why I have to fight back like that.

Sometimes, I think Dream Alliance just doesn't know who they're messing with."

Louis: "They do. But of course they have to go rough as well, as a sign that they are putting up a good fight. I've seen their provocations as well, in the form of their lap records in various race tracks across the planet. That's why I'm taking them seriously. You too. You should see why they are feared. And...

...why we shouldn't be intimidated by them."

Toru: "Heh. You're right. I'll put up a good fight too. I'm not a kid who fools around anymore. Even I have to leave my family in order to prove them wrong. They should watch this too, and see how wrong they really are!"

We've been hearing a hush from the crowd. It's starting. Dream Alliance will perform their timed run. I think we're next, though...

Mr. Stephan is standing quiet ever since this morning. I wonder why... He didn't even bother helping us out in the Subaru's set up.

20897958149_d09d6a2849_c.jpg

Stephan: "Everyone's been spoiled with technology lately. Rallying has turned into a mere child's play thanks to one big culprit - Four wheel drive."

20462115404_119459d746_c.jpg

Stephan: "While there is no doubt how that system can be very helpful, if you're traversing through snow in a day-to-day basis. But in the form of motorsport, it's seen as a weapon of mass destruction of some sorts. Rallying back then was a test of true skill. How you manage to keep the car in check through twists and turns is the real challenge.

In my experience as a racer turned crew chief, I always stress out on how to improve drivers by means of challenges. My three current drivers are, no doubt, showing signs of growth. However, as for Louis...

...he's a very special case. He's not growing through conventional means. I can see how he thirsts for more."

20463687173_54ec8c3bed_c.jpg

Stephan: "In all honesty, I had doubts when I decided to choose the Impreza to represent us. But I already had a car in mind the moment I chose to join in this contest. It's just that the majority of the team decided on the Impreza."

21074700612_5f4c352c96_c.jpg

Stephan: "3 minutes and 40 seconds, huh? That's a tall order for Toru. But...

...should the Dream Alliance push us to a shove, I'd send out
that car. They'll be in for a total surprise, with Louis behind the wheel."

Nina: "We're next!"

Louis: "Here goes. Good luck, Toru."

Toru: "I'll whoop that Yuki brat. Time to see who the real brat is."

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

- I need volunteers for the Celica Rally Car and the Citroen C4 Rally Car. Both have Engine Stage 3 upgrades, but then lower the power down to 350 HP, as stated by the regulations.

Page 7: Growth

3 minutes and 40 seconds...

That's a tall order. But I'm confident Toru can do it. Come to think of it, he actually volunteered after Yuki from the Dream Alliance arrived and provoked us. That's how devoted Toru is, and truly considers me as his sworn brother.

Toru started out as a street racer in Japan that quickly rose to fame in the professional racing, eventually landing a spot in our team. Not just that, he continues to impress me. He's not an immature young man that everyone in his hometown labels him as. He's trying to break that mold, by racing globally. At one point, he even cried, when we first talked after he entered our team, revealing his plight.

It's our team's turn. I'm counting on you, petit frere...

Background Music

While I just stand by and wait for our car to finish, I see someone coming. He's a familiar face...

Louis: "Hey there."

Rob: "You have some guts to send him out."

Louis: "Why? You find it funny?"

Rob: "Not really. I saw him pilot an Audi R8 to over 400 kilometers per hour before, and then his stints in Le Mans. I'm just surprised."

Louis: "What are you saying? That I should always drive for the team?"

Rob: "That's just because everyone expects you. Everyone thinks you are the sole carrier of your team's name."

Louis: "That could be. But I have faith in Toru. What about you? Does a top driver like you have faith for someone like Yuki?"

Rob: "Don't dare think I think of myself."

Louis: "Then stop making assumptions too. Toru can single-handedly crush you."

20512335603_be7ff5ae7b_c.jpg

Louis: "In fact, I can leave him to take care of this championship."

21107201246_708f99fcfb_c.jpg

Rob: "Heh. Wishful thinking. What, you have something different in your mind?"

Louis: "That's none of your business. Your entire team is not on my focus. Sorry if that sounded insulting."

20510771514_da246beec1_c.jpg

Rob: "What's with the cold shoulder? Don't tell me the cold reached your heart."

Louis: "I protect the people who I care so much about. Toru is no longer the person that everyone thinks. He even had to run away from his family to start anew. It's all painful for him, and that gave him the reason to fight."

20946636399_acaac8cc6b_c.jpg

Our Subaru blitzed past us. The time? 3 minutes and 39.3 seconds.

21133410355_457b267177_c.jpg

Wow! I'm very impressed. He's truly keeping up. Soon enough he'll be able to outmatch me. Hehe. As for Rob though, he can only stare at that large timer at the line.

Louis: "What have I told you? How do you like them apples?"

I just walked out after giving a friendly pat on Rob's shoulder.

We are the only team that can stop you cold, Dream Alliance. You've already seen that in our previous encounters.

And as for you, Loeb... you'll watch me. Watch me when it's my turn.

After that momentous victory for Toru, a dinner is in order. Because of his humble background and all, he decided to order...

...a bucket of fried chicken. He misses eating that so much, and he needs a break from eating French food that has rather tiny proportions, which I have to admit.

Louis: "Hey hey. Careful. You have all night to savor them all."

Toru: "I just missed eating these. Back home, I can consume the entire bucket all by myself."

Louis: "And yet you don't get fat."

Then Monsieur Stephan gets in, and summons me. He leads me to our garage.

Stephan: "Next round will be next week. But I have talked to the officials for one important change."

Louis: "Change? What are you talking about? Are we even allowed?"

Stephan: "If that's what you worry about, then don't. It's already taken care of. They permitted us."

What I see next, takes me by surprise.

20945532638_a75eaaf8d4_c.jpg

Stephan: "You are going to drive this next week. A rear-wheel drive 911."

Louis: "Rear-wheel drive? Won't that put us into a disadvantage?"

Stephan: "There something about me you haven't known yet. You'll do, right now. I was once...

...a rally car driver. This very car sealed my retirement. I won my very last race in Chamonix using this. I can't just let it go out of my sight. It's a memento.

And I think you deserve to be its next partner."

Monsieur Stephan was a rally car driver? What I do know is that he was an ex-race car driver. Perhaps he aims to be specific.

But for him to let me drive that 911 on snow? That's... challenging. However I see Porsche 911s in rallying too. After all, a Porsche 911 can be a great base car for pretty much any form of motorsport.

Stephan: "Sometimes, we have to think outside the box. Having all four wheels to assist you is like riding a bike with training wheels. Your growth is very impressive, and for that keep on going, I might as well impose a tougher challenge. Besides, surely you'd find out why a rear-wheel drive 911 piloted me to my last ever victory, when my opponents were all 4WDs. I was like an innocent fish swimming along with sharks in the ocean."

Oh... my.... word....

Background Music

21236496355_13c62670e0_c.jpg

Just two days before the next round would begin, I take this 911 out for a spin on the ice. Let me tell you, it does spin...

...gracefully.

I'm quite surprised. It's actually very controllable on the snow, considering that it's rear-wheel drive only, and the engine is in the wrong place. That would usually mean a disaster, but this isn't the only 911 in the world that does rallying. Porsche has been winning rallies in various 911 platforms too, you know? So the unorthodox layout shouldn't be a hindrance at all.

21048386180_3e6eee2545_c.jpg

And despite the fact that the engine has air restrictors, the car actually accelerates at a faster rate than the Subaru! A forced induction engine can only dream of having this linear push.

21244457391_915140e9c5_c.jpg

Grasp the surface and kick off. That's what the car likes to do. This is unparalleled traction! The bulk of the car's weight, which is at the back, allows for the rear tires to cling on the surface easier.

And now with the steering...

20615362143_bfb204fd7e_c.jpg

It's magical. It's lighter and I can truly feel where the front tires are going. Plus, I can finally apply what I learned from Juri here!

I think Monsieur Stephan has a special reason behind this. Given his experience in rallying in the past with this car, he wants me to have total control of the car. And knowing how this car works...

20613808574_1f5e7fd6bf_c.jpg

...I let my right foot take care of the rear wheels for traction while my hands tackle the steering feel and grip for the front wheels. He says that human precision can outshine even the most modern of four-wheel drives. I don't know up to what extent I can do that.

21048385600_7e81c8c1d4_c.jpg

But one thing is for sure. I'm going to make everyone gasp with this car, including Loeb. Perhaps I'll even ask permission from Monsieur Stephan to borrow this car for our duel.

Whooo.... I really like this car! It dances like my BMW. You think German cars are serious? Think again.

Time to end the excitement for a bit. All these driving made me thirsty. I want some coffee...

Stephan: "How was it?"

Louis: "Amazing. It far exceeds my expectations. I'm getting attached to it."

Stephan: "Just like every car you've driven. But I am impressed, you never spun out."

Louis: "I can finally apply what I've learned from her."

Stephan: "Very well then. On Sunday, we'll have the timed run on a shorter track."

Louis: "I see. But, I will have another timed run at the track we ran last week. I aim for Sebastien Loeb's lap time."

Stephan: "Hehehehehehehehe.... is that so? Aim for the stars, huh? All right, then. Much like the GT by Citroen, you can freely use the 911. I entrust you our team's name, anyway. It will be a challenge though, since the 911 is rear-wheel drive. But, you love being challenged, right?"

Louis: "Of course. I have to keep climbing the wall until I jump past it."

Stephan: "I think Loeb must watch on Sunday. I have a contact to his team, and I'll see if I can invite him."

Heh. Great idea. I want to humiliate him.

Louis: "Please do so. I'd be honored if he is to witness my skills."

While Takuma is busy preparing to serve dinner, Hiroyuki calls on the rest of the members to have a brief meeting in regards to the next round.

Hiroyuki: "Before we can enjoy a hearty dinner, allow me to bring this concern to you. Thank you all for attending.

I have gathered information that Blue Streak Racing has changed their car for the next round. The car in question is unknown for the moment."

Maria: "Is that even allowed?"

Hiroyuki: "If their former car had mechanical problems, then surely they can do so. But after seeing their run last week makes me think otherwise."

Yuki: "I'm thinking we're gonna have this rough."

Hiroyuki: "There's no use questioning their decision. We don't want to appear like we're desperate for a win. Let's just accept the challenge they're going to throw at us."

Rob: "We're in tough times, everyone. To think a team can finally stop us cold. Our winning streak has faced a dead end. And it's not a pun."

Hiroyuki: "We must recognize their talents, but we should keep our pride and dreams intact. We must show that we will not yield!"

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT:

There is a saying - "All things must come to an end". But as much as I want to keep Louis Montagny's sidestory running, I have to remember that this is Takuma Gaiden, and that it centers around Takuma Kanonji's quest for greatness along with his team, the Dream Alliance.

Hence, to end "Le Journal Vitesse de Louis" trilogy, allow me announce the title that shall serve as the finale.

Synopsis:

A big hurdle appears in Louis' quest, that can potentially end his promising career. Will he be able to leap it, while venturing in one of motorsport's greatest championship series?

Coming soon...

We're back on ice and it's the 2nd round. As usual, motorsport fans are everywhere, and once again filling up hotel rooms. That's good on the business part. Events have now turned into some sort of business. Sponsors unleash huge waves of money just to make sure the shindig goes all well. As a result, people go and watch, caring little on how much money they have to shell out just to see the excitement.

As for me, I didn't mind. I just carried on doing warm up exercises. I'll be the one running this time, though on a shorter course. Sometimes, I don't like long courses for time attacks. You can easily lose concentration on duration alone, especially when you are dealing with too many twists and the road surface is not ideal.

In the midst of my workout, someone comes to see me. Oh... it's Rob Hatch again.

Rob: "Looking fit. Seems that you've gained some pounds of muscle."

Louis: "People like us need to be always in shape. That's a very tall order."

Rob: "I kinda like your strategy."

Louis: "Pretty sure, you don't believe in our press release. I don't care."

Rob: "Expected you to say that. Anyway, we'd all get to see it, anyway. You're running?"

Louis: "Of course. What about you?"

Rob: "It's still Yuki. That brat is stubborn. What have you done?"

Louis: "I don't know."

Rob: "He's itching for a one-on-one showdown with you. After this round."

Louis: "I'd prefer it when no one is watching. Less casualties."

Rob: "Death match? I don't think both of you would go that far."

Louis: "Accidents happen. Just to be on a safe side."

Rob: "What it will be, then?"

Louis: "Wednesday. Is that okay?"

Rob: "I see no problem with that. I'll go tell him right now. Good luck for today, though."

So that kid won't stop, huh? I'll give him what he wants. He should have his fight, if he so desires it. But I'm not going to give it up so easily.

I'm being called. Time to deliver. No further instructions. Just watch in surprise, Dream Alliance.

21102233208_ee7f440427_c.jpg

Takuma: "A Porsche 911?!"

Maria: "Aren't they getting themselves into a big gamble?"

Hiroyuki: "Blue Streak's Stephan DuBois is known to be an excellent tactician in his days as a racer. However, I simply don't buy their excuse of their Subaru's engine won't start. Surely, this is their way of saying they have the, what youngsters call today, the balls."

Yuki: "As far as I know, most 911s are rear wheel drive. I agree with Maria-san, it's like they're gambling."

Hiroyuki: "Even gambling needs calculated moves. Stephan must have thought about it over and over. Perhaps in the end he sees it as the best."

Yuki: "I see. Regardless of that, I will take him on."

Rob: "Oh, by the way, Louis has already agreed on your showdown. Don't let your guard down. He might as well unleash his inner beast. I fell for it."

Yuki: "Let's just see who's the real monster on Wednesday."

20667433024_bb1c713d5a_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "The Porsche 911 stubbornly sticks that unorthodox layout for 50 years. But look at where it brought itself."

Rob: "I haven't realized that having a heavy lump of metal at the back could bring wonders."

21103245529_79d4672736_c.jpg

Takuma: "And they chose to play it here on ice."

21263871506_3718b82fb0_c.jpg

Rob: "Though something's off with Louis."

Takuma: "Eh?"

Rob: "He told me before that we are not his focus. I don't know, maybe he has another agenda in store."

21102020840_08b2e8acc8_c.jpg

1 minute and 20 seconds, according to Nina. Huh, it's that short. And I like the last minute changes done to this car. It's more stable than the last time. Nice run.

Half an hour later, it's Dream Alliance's turn.

21102021080_ef6f5ce6ea_c.jpg

Toru: "Yuki is still pushing for it, huh?"

Louis: "Yep. In fact, I'm going to race him on Wednesday, on this very place."

Toru: "Huh?! That's getting dangerous!"

Louis: "I know. But when I'm being challenged, I don't look back."

21290125185_a2653e7b45_c.jpg

For sure, I'd be seeing nothing but snow on the windshield when that duel happens. I got the course in my head, though.

21298239571_3364008d16_c.jpg

Pardon me, but honestly Yuki isn't even in my head right now...

20667431424_a0bf51b98e_c.jpg

...despite clocking in the same time of 1 minute and 20 seconds. I am not underestimating him. It's just that I have a bigger fish to catch.

And he's facing me right now...

Loeb: "Good to see you again. I came here by invitation."

Louis: "All along I thought you are a participant."

Loeb: "I have a touring car championship to take care of, that's why."

Louis: "And you're doing well."

Loeb: "Same here to you. I am thoroughly impressed, to think you can stop Dream Alliance's winning streak."

Louis: "There's always someone out there faster than them. But I don't see them as being self-conceited."

Loeb: "I bet you will win this championship."

Time to be frank. Since he's here, might as well take this opportunity to announce my true intentions.

Louis: "Before you go, I'd like to say something."

Loeb: "Mmm?"

Louis: "The very reason why you're here, is I asked Monsieur Stephan to invite you to watch me. I knew you chased me back then.

But I simply could not let that encounter pass by. It left a thorn. I have to take it out. The only way to do it, is for us to battle."

Upon hearing that, Loeb simply gives a smile. But that's no ordinary smile. More like an affirmative grin.

Loeb: "No problem. I have always wanted to test you. You have been creating shockwaves all throughout Europe. And I want to see why."

Louis: "You'll see it soon enough. So, shall we do it here?"

Loeb: "Absolutely."

Louis: "Right after this championship is over. I'll take care of a little problem and then I'll set my eyes on you."

Loeb: "All right, then. You got yourself a showdown."

Oops, I almost forgot...

Louis: "I'm here on Wednesday, you might as well watch how I take down Dream Alliance. That should give you an idea, am I right?"

Loeb: "Hehehehehehe... sure. My curiosity still burns."

There, it's all set. The real fun begins. Looks like my Chamonix adventure has entered in its climax.

A clash between legends that will change French motorsport forever...

Bring it on.

Page 10: Bright Blue

Location: Chamonix Ski Resort
Time: 10 am, Wednesday

I've prepared myself. I have known the dangers of having a duel on a snow covered track. The key element is focus. It's the only weapon in my arsenal for today's spat with the Dream Alliance, once again.

Besides, I have a true agenda why I accepted this duel and invited Sebastien Loeb to watch. That Yuki kid is not my priority, but Loeb himself. I want him to see what I'm capable of, and how my legend came to be.

No one is around to watch? Good. I don't need publicity for this. This isn't a stunt.

Everything is in order, except for one...

...sudden snow storm. Really?

Toru: "Wow... last thing we need."

Nina: "Expect temperatures to drop below zero degrees Celsius and visibility to drop. Please exercise further caution."

And my special guest has finally arrived. This will truly give me the motivation to beat them right now.

Louis: "I'm glad you came, Loeb."

Loeb:
"You intrigue me even further, that's why I came. Did you really end the Dream Alliance's winning streak? That's what I want to see."

Louis: "You'll see it in a few moments time. I'm going to crush them once again before they know it."

Loeb: "Such confidence."

Louis: "You alone are my motivation right now. That's why I'm this confident. Keep your eyes open, Loeb. Don't close them for a moment."

Loeb: "Hmmmmm.... seeing that you have another seat in your 911, how about I watch you in action instead?"

Oh... great idea there. Why haven't I thought of that? Hehehehehe. That actually is much better. I then show a delightful smile.

Louis: "Heh. I'd be honored."

All right, no further adieu!

Stephan: "Dream Alliance is ready. That Celica is already lined up."

Loeb: "Let's strap in."

The two of us then get inside. Loeb won't act as a co-driver here. He's only an audience.

Meanwhile, in the Dream Alliance tent...

Takuma: "What's up with Louis? Sebastien Loeb as a co-driver? Huh, he is that good to attract such superstar."

Rob: "I don't think so. I am already sensing something amiss the moment I talked to him last time."

Hiroyuki: "We don't have marshals pulling the strings, so let's just go all-out, shall we? Let Louis have Loeb at his side.

Yuki has no reason to back down, for sure. However..."

21415543011_33e02997b8_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "...I'm worried that he's pushing this a bit too far. We're no means perfect."

Our clash begins. As the laws of physics would dictate, the 4WD would have a good start on snow.

21415538691_bae38502ca_c.jpg

Yuki: "Rain, snow, or even fallen leaves are no matter to me. I have conquered the mountains since middle school!"

20786043483_9d07b9b6be_c.jpg

Loeb: "Is Louis holding back? Sure, the leading car would hamper our visibility, but Louis here looks relaxed."

21396245052_cc97178054_c.jpg

Carry on, if you can, little boy. Because you're not so much of a matter to me right now. I'm putting on a good show for Loeb. I only have the course in my head. You're nothing more than just a distraction.

Yuki: "What's wrong? I don't like people holding back on me just because I look meek. They regret it if they do."

21219272228_b8c1d41139_c.jpg

You're not bad, kiddo. You show promise like Toru does. I haven't even forgotten our first encounter.

20786033023_3de63de5c5_c.jpg

Loeb: "This car is set up very thoroughly for snow. I can feel so much traction grasping right now. If I remember it right, this very car was the swansong for Stephan DuBois' rallying career. It served him well.

Huh? Louis is stepping on it! He's too confident for this! This is rear-wheel drive!"

I'm going to show to my passenger here right now, how much of a worthy opponent I am! I'LL CRUSH HIM SOON ENOUGH!

OUT OF MY WAY, I'M MORE PSYCHO THAN YOU, YUKI!

21219025540_29ccd10357_c.jpg

Yuki: "What's this?! I am feeling this sudden urge from him!"

21407338815_edf4f1abe6_c.jpg

Do not misunderstand me. You're good. But my ulterior motive is to dethrone the King of Rallying!

Loeb: "Hehehehehehe... Louis truly lives up to everyone's expectations, including mine. To think he can easily make mincemeat of a racer from the fastest racing team known to man.

Yuki: "Dammit! I entered too fast, I left an opening!"

21219257258_031b2f8129_c.jpg

Yuki: "It's that energy once again, brimming brightly with pride. But it's not as sinister as last time."

21220211749_dca1307606_c.jpg

Yuki: "Even with just two rear wheels running, you have that much traction to pull away?!"

21380862466_194b04aae9_c.jpg

Louis: "Loeb, it's time to get crazy."

Don't relax just yet, Loeb. Time to focus on me.

Meanwhile, in the Blue Streak Racing tent:

Nina approaches Toru and Stephan, and informs them the situation right away. The young Toru obviously reacts with glee.

Toru: "Dream Alliance won't catch a cold yet again. Ha!"

Nina: "On to another matter, Monsieur Stephan, your phone is ringing. Here."

She then gives the vibrating phone to the racing chief.

Stephan: "Hello? Who's this?

...I see.

...You want Louis Montagny for that? Sure, but can it wait? You see, we have another racing championship to deal with right after our conquest in Chamonix.

...Oh I see. Then you got the timing right. He'll be pleasantly surprised. I'll get back to you right after this for us to make arrangements. Thank you for calling."

Toru: "What's that, sir?"

Stephan: "Some folk from Bugatti headquarters in Alsace is actually seeking out for Louis."

Toru: "What for?"

Stephan: "He's chosen to test their latest racing machine. However, it will have to wait."

End of Page 10

Chiron awaits...

Could be. Louis has just been given a new job, and he is not even aware of it yet... After Yuki and Loeb, a higher calling will be Louis' true purpose to race. And boy will it be a wild one...

Also, I like how my mistake during the race (yes, I was driving the Celica for that scene) was swiftly translated into Yuki going wide. Rally isn't my forté, in case you couldn't tell, haha.
