Targa Zahara is a form of racing designed to pay tribute to some of the great sports car races of yesteryear, like the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio, using Gran Turismo's latest track, Circuito de la Sierra. The club will be casual and open to the public. Rooms will be hosted once a week on Tuesday nights, technically Wednesday mornings at 1:00 AM New York time, but I'm just going to call it Tuesday night.

Some races may also be put on YouTube thanks to @MannYhAvitZ Here's one of our races from last Tuesday, this is the kind of close racing that can be expected in every race, right to the finish...

RULES
Cars: pre-80's
PP: 450
Power: 270 hp
Weight: 1050 kg
Tires: RH or less
*NOTE: these rules are subject to be tweaked slightly*

Races
Tracks: All races held at Circuito de la Sierra
Laps: 1 (though there is a potential we might try 2 in a big room)

Miscellaneous
Although it's won't ever be a rule, it is highly encouraged that drivers put a driver number on their car. The big circles and squares are very period correct and add that much more authenticity to the racing.

TIMES
As I already mentioned, the rooms I'm hosting will be on Tuesday late night in America. If you are interested in this kind of racing but can't make it when we're doing it I highly encourage you others to start these rooms too. If somebody is interested in hosting one at a different time let me know and we can add it to this thread.

So yeah, we've already got about 5 guys running for sure. If we end up filling up totally we might make the rooms private but otherwise they will be public.

Sign me up if I can attend what time is it in GMT?

I believe that would be Wednesday 5:00 GMT

New York is 5 hours behind UK time normally (sometimes the daylight saving time changes are different I think) so 1am New York time would usually be 6am in the UK (definitely not 5pm GMT ). Which is why unfortunately I can't make these races.

I am thinking of running the same events at around 8pm UK time once a week, depending on how things pan out and the amount of any interest here in UK or Europe (most of Europe is UK time +1 hour).

I'm just back from holiday (thats the UK word for vacation :sly:) yesterday though, so I haven't had time to do any of the Rally Events yet or deal with other stuff I've come back to...

@MeanElf I saw on the other Targa thread that you might be thinking of doing something similar?

If it's 8pm UK time I might actually be able to join you for like an hour depending on the day. :D

I would love to race, but due to school and waking up at 6:30 every weekday, I wouldn't be able to. Unless there would be a day off... :(

Well, @Amac500, you know I'm definitely up for this. It'll give me a good chance to get the back end sorted on the Cobra.
That's why I raised the hp limit from 250 to 254, now you can change the oil on the Cobra and still make the hp. :D

Your more than welcome any time, Thanksgiving or Christmas break or whenever. And if we get more hosts too you maybe one of those times will work for you.

Hey Alex I was working with another GTPlanet Club owner and I just Finish his Trailer. I will work on yours, but for now I just want you to check this one out and tell me if this is something you would like.

He created his PIC & gave me the type of Music he was hoping to have in his trailer... The rest is just me putting the video together (Just to give you an IDEA)

I'd like to get in but I have a request :is it possible racing with Cs tyres?

With 450pp cars, rh is definitely too grippy imho

I understand that concern. When I started the room is was originally on RS (people were learning the track and I didn't want it to be a mess), and the goal was to scale the tires back. I originally thought we'd ultimately end up on Sport tires, but when we changed them to RH the racing got really good, and as we tested the room with different groups of drivers over a few nights the competition level didn't change. Sport tires are probably the most realistic suitor for the cars, cus they did have racing rubber back then so comfort tires is probably a little much, and Sports are an option that would be evaluated in the future, but I'd encourage you give the RH a chance in race condition.

It may have actually made it a bit more difficult because this grip level seems to have made the track uniquely unforgiving. With some of the high speed curving roads you have to be smart about how you control your momentum and placing you car, because it's not uncommon that having to get out of it or feathering the throttle can cost you a second on the car infront. It's kind of hard to word, but yeah, I'd recommend giving it a chance.

If the times were moved back abit maybe we could join.
The room will be open for a while. Like if the room's opening at 1:00 AM New York time I'm planning on being there until around 5:00 AM, so it'll be open for at least those 4 hours, and then people might keep racing after I leave. And like I've said its casual so there's a pretty good window to get in there.

Edit: Opps, sorry for dp

True indeed, I have yet to check on my hosting capabilities first, as I am operating wirelessly on a damn good broadband but the router is twenty metres and one floor away.

I am unlikely to be able to join any normal time events for the UK as I work night-shift, so there is actually more chance I'd be able to join @Amac500 events - like I say though, I need to check my PS3's performance online.

I'll get back to you chaps on this.

Hey Alex I'm ready for tomorrow and I been searching for new cars to race with you and members on "TUESDAY NIGHT"

I know you are always busy, but I would like to Invite you to an Endurance race event we will be having on October 23rd. Not sure If you are a fan of that, But you are more then welcome to join us

-RULES-

I would join you, always enjoy my Mazda TC, but 8pm is a bit early for me. One of the guys who's raced in there actually invited me to that room a number of months ago, can't remember who it was.

But yes, we'll be all ago for Tuesday night and I've sent out a PSN mail just now to some guys I expect to be there so I should have a count for the room to start with later tonight.

Hey Mac feel free to post your schedule in our page... the spinning arrows page. I am a main member so since u are my friend we r good

So last night went well, the be talking points coming from the race where 6 out of 7 cars lead and the top 5 were separated by less than a second at a stage halfway through the race. The other nice thing was that everyone ran a number of different cars, but that also showed a number of sports where pp was uneven (thanks PD).

So we'll change the rules a bit for next week in the never ending quest to balance as many cars as possible. I've thought about it and this is what I'd like to do for next week:
  • Keep the PP limit at 450.
  • Eliminate that HP cap.
  • Require a power-to-weight ratio of 4.40 on all cars.
Over the next week I'd like to test this a bit and I'd like any of you who can to help. So try setting your cars up to that reg and do either full laps or just the segments under the special event, but please do all the full lap times in the special event so they can be done from a standing start. I think the easiest way to test though might just be to use the 2nd sector for all the times.

Also sorry for the double post, but I know some people have alerts set up for this and sense it is a rule change I want everyone to see it.

We will be racing tonight and we are gonna run new rules. It is not one of the things we tested but its a method I have tried with success once before. What we're doing is setting a power and weight cap, and then taking the lowest pp car to set the curve. So here's what well be running at least to start, but this should likely work for the full night:

PP: 436
Power: 254 hp
Weight: 1050 kg

Oh the things we do because PD can't balance pp correctly. This is mostly to knock down the speed of 4 particular cars, the Stratos, 250 GT, 2000GT, and Dino, but by doing this we should also level out the rest of the field so that no car has even a marginable advantage over the others. Regretfully however, the Alpine A110 will not be able to make the weight requirement, which I hate to see happen because it was one of the lead cars I thought of when creating this format. The next car on the edge is the '54 Abarth Fiat, which will be good by these rules but it is fully makes out on power. If there has to be another tween it might find itself slightly slower than the rest, but should still be able to hang and is fully conpetative so long as we stay with tonights rules.

Room opens in about 2 hours, at 1:00 AM New York time. Hope to see some new faces in addition to our 7 guys we expect to see. Will have enough guys for some good racing so feel free to drop by!

Hey Mac I freaking have no internet!! This will be day 2 for me and I hope I can get it fixed soon!!
