Team GTPlanet.net has been created for SETI@Home!

You can see me as Cygnus_IX. Looks like it's been a while since I've uploaded anything. :D

The Last time I uploaded anything was:
Mon Dec 11 00:25:57 2000

Berkley is combing the skys for E.T.'s. You receive a packet of data, which your computer processes, then returns the results back to Berkley's, SETI server.

Yes and no, maybe I have. So theres a huge random satelite somewhere or are you just reciving jumbled up binary taken from who knows what.

That would be the radio dish in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Ever seen Goldeneye? That's the dish.

I've always been intrested in ET, so I downloaded the program and I joined the team.

I just joined...but the email address I used apparently had an account over 3 years ago - back when I had a 333 mhz laptop that barely ran. Soooooo, my average per day thing is very very outdated :P

Sounds like me....except I was running a Intel 486DX2 Processor at 133mhz. :-)

So,... what help are we by doing this? Is it just "to be apart of something",.. or are we actually helping them? Please give more specifics as I am interested but am having a hard time processing a lot of this information. <-stoner->

Basically, the SETI@Home project is about internet users letting Berkley use their unused CPU cycles in order to analyze workunits that Berkley would not be able to analyze on its own. There is so much information that the Arecibo radio dish is able to capture that Berkley does not have enough Supercomputers to analyze the data by itself. That is why the SETI@Home project was started.

More information about the project may be found at this page. It explains how the project works.

How SETI@Home works

Still? Argh. How many workunits have you done? I would try creating a new account and see if that solves your problem. I'm am extremely confused as to why it would take so long to send a password.

w00t, go AMD! (check out that average cpu time :D)

Wow. What's your CPU speed? Mine is a 2100+. I average under 5 hours per workunit. I may upgrade to a faster processor but I don't think I really need it at this point. I also let SETI run all the time when the computer is on.

XP2500+ overclocked to 2.38Ghz (standard is 1.83Ghz)

Pah! Excactly the same as mine. :P

Btw - Has anyone noticed that their internet speeds up whilst using it? 'Cause mine does.

My Athlon at 2.4Ghz (2.38 ) did a unit in 3hrs 35mins, whats the fastest your P4 at 2.4ghz does? :P

Heh. Nah seriously, My average is about 4 hours.

But that's because I've got some pretty outdated components in my computer I think.

My last workunit finished in 3 hrs 49 minutes. It was under the screensaver for the majority though. I know this was directed at TVRKing, but I felt like mentioning this. My CPU is clocked at 1.73 Ghz.
