Team GTPlanet.net has been created for SETI@Home!

well the web page says are we alone? well i think its impossible the UNIVERSE is freaking huge. I'd join but my computers running really low on hard drive space and every little bit helps well unless i dont have to install anything that is.

My last workunit finished in 3 hrs 49 minutes. It was under the screensaver for the majority though. I know this was directed at TVRKing, but I felt like mentioning this. My CPU is clocked at 1.73 Ghz.

Meh, Meh and Meh. :irked:

Okay, with my new account (which has an average cpu time of about 3hrs 20minutes :D) I've got a password but trying to join the team results in a HTTP 500 error.

Gah. Berkley's servers don't like our team, I guess. Maybe I can report it in their forums. I get that error when trying to manually update the team statistics page sometimes.

Yay, finally got it :D

Check out that average CPU time :D

Your credit:
Name (and URL) Macro
Results Received 12
Total CPU Time 39 hr 58 min
Average CPU Time per work unit 3 hr 19 min 53.4 sec
Average results received per day 3.69

Yay, and now I have joined TeamGTP, which is wierd seeing as it gave me yet another HTTP 500 error.

But I'm there none the less :D.

Meh, how do I join? I've downloaded SETI and set up and account, but I can't join the team. I want to be the first Aussie on the team dammit! :grumpy:

Well its about time. Congrats. Berkley's been really strange lately. :odd:

Yeah, stupid server!

During the morning and night when I'm most active is when SETI will run slower, but if I leave it running during the day when I'm doing something else then it should steam right through and hopefully maintain that average CPU time that I'm so proud of.. :D

Yay, still averaging 3hr 20m per work unit.

I look so out of place on the team page..

[edit]
Hmm, so how often does the team page update? Because I'm sitting here with 27 units completed (89hrs 48mins) but the team page says 21?

I haven't gotten around to manually updating the statistics in awhile. I've been somewhat busy working on a website for someone along with mine. I've been playing Tron 2.0 as of late also. It's a great game and I recommend buying it. I found it for twenty dollars at KMART.

Yeah, Shannon quit the team because he had one work unit completed and it hadn't shown up on the team page

Bah. He could have pmed me to update the team statistics manually. Otherwise it takes a few days for the stats to change because Berkley doesn't update each teams stats every day.

Here's the pic for it :irked:

Wow, when left in the windows + L button I managed to get a unit done in 2hrs 45minutes, but the ****ing screenshot didn't bloody well work!

Nice... over 500 workunits too.

note: This post marks my 2 year anniversary of joining GTPlanet. I didn't feel like making a thread about it. Apparently I registered on February 2nd in 2002(Also Groundhog's day, I believe). Weird. I didn't plan that one.

Has any member of the team found a decent program for SETI that caches workunits and also displays information about your workunits/sky where the workunits were recorded from? I found SETIMonitor off of the site but I'm thinking that it is a 16 bit program and not a native 32 bit program for Windows XP.

Well done on the 2 years 👍

No luck on the program though.

My average CPU time has been dropping slightly over the past week, I hope it will drop below 3 hours :D.

:banghead:
The "folks" at SETI need to more adequately "queue" the tidal-wave of access to server "requests" coming from their "user base" aka us folks running the client. They are obviously buried from time to time with various requests to the "hood", but are just under-powered to handle the ebb-and-flow of the load. A front-end internet "queue server" would remedy this, so that instead of receiving the message and having to retry your request/access constantly, you would instead just have to wait a few extra seconds or so as the "queues" flush threw all the requests (no pun intended). The only potential problem there would be that your "website request" would timeout, but you could control that at your end, verses the perpetual annoyance of the "Web Server Error" message...which wastes cumulatively more time than most can imagine given the number of users who (more than likely) receive this message daily and thereby only further the "load Problem" by having to "click again". Just my 2 cents worth...of course... ;-)
:banghead:

Woohoo! I've just completed my 251st workunit. And with that, I jumped in rank to 569,768th place out of 4.9 million plus users.

Oh, and I've found that SETI Monitor works well for those who do not want to upload 1 unit after every complete workunit crunched but multiple workunits at a time. It's PC only though.

Well, A few weeks ago Berkley released a new version of SETI@Home under the BIONC Project. I have made the switch to this new version and I have mixed feelings on it.

A. I am unable to figure out how to make it work through my software firewall. This isn't really an issue at this point for me because I have a Router with a hardware firewall built in. My software firewall just blocks banner ads(Sorry, Jordan!) and other things.

B. I am curious as to how it schedules work for specific computers. I do not like this aspect of the program as it does not allow a user to just download a workunit and crunch away continuously if there is no work available.

C. The program has issues with my router or something apparently. Whenever the screensaver is active, a message that says "This Machine is a Windows Secure Desktop, BIONC does not currently support this." appears. What am I going to do, open my machine up to the World Wide Web and let anyone that feels like it into my machine? I don't think so.

D. The site layout for the program is pitiful. You cannot search the forums for specific issues such as the one I am having with my firewall.

E. The servers dishing out the work seem to be having problems at the moment handling the stress from user requests for work.

F. The BIONC version of SETI has been released far too early in my opinion. Berkley really ought to have set up their network infrastructure to handle the workload better as the project has been down multiple times a day/week.

If any member of the team or anyone who wants to join the team wishes to help me to test this new version of SETI, feel free to go ahead and do so. The site for the new version is SETI BIONC Project. Otherwise, wait a while for Berkley to fix some of the problems with the project.

EDIT: Here is the Team page under SETI BIONC.
BIONC Team GTPlanet.Net

I am unsure as to whether or not current members who port their accounts over to BIONC like I did will have to rejoin or not.

Hmmm, this might something I will have to look into when I move. I can set my at home work computer to do this when I am not using it.

Not to bring up old threads, but this could be really cool if more members would step up and contribute. :)
