Great videos as usually, Adrian. The game looks like a lots of fun. Too bad the physics are basically 'copy and paste' from Shift.

No they're not. I've attempted to play the mess that is Shift2 physics. Hated it...a lot. FRC is a different animal. Seems like the thing to say from people who've never tried the game. Use no aids, cockpit view and with the steering settings Amar posted in this thread, the steering is spot on.

Game is based on Shift 1 engine not Shift:2, it was created long before Shift 2: Unleashed was released. But then for legal issues was postponed.

Try to remember that DLC for first Shift. Ferrari cars were available only for X360 because micro-soft payed SMS studios to have it only for their console. So Ferrari Racing Legends had to wait until agreement has expired.

Game has no steering lag like Shift 2 unleashed had before patch fixed slightly.

Oh, I didn't realize that. No wonder the graphics look dated. But yeah, the steering lag was what I was referring to in S2. It's too bad, S2 has a great track list. I just have a hard time enjoying it with the steering like it is.

I put in FRL last night. Had put it away for a couple months. Love the old cars. Had a couple fun quick races at Rouen. Fun watching the AI doing rollovers!

I should've been more specific. I wasn't referring to S2U, but the first one, as ussr mentioned.

Good to hear about the input lag being gone though, which completely ruined Shift for me.

👍

Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends PC - Ferrari FF @ Silverstone

I only have the PS3 version so far but couldn't find the FF. Did they take it out of the PS3 version for some licensing issue? Like... maybe Microsoft wanted payback because the Ferrari 458 was missing in the last Test Drive game on their console?

Or is it just me? I only got this game yesterday so I might have missed the car until now (though I searched for it in quick race car selection). :dunce:

I tried googling this but it's very difficult to specify a search term and when I used something like 'PS3 Ferrari Racing Legends FF missing' nothing helpful came up.

Thanks for the info.

Any advice in the modern era races? Coming from years of GT5 being average I'm not that much of a noob I think, but I stand no chance to beat even the first race in the Testarossa. The problem isn't the mission itself, it's that I get disqualified hearing 'The idea is to stay on the track. ;) ' every few seconds. I keep losing control when trying to outbreak an AI car - mostly because we have contact and the collision model is a bad joke.
I'm using a G27, and to save concentration on my line and throttle/brake control I'm using ABS, TCS, and even automatic shifts (downshifting with paddles when needed while braking), still to no avail. I didn't manage to get into 3rd lap a single time so far, always got disqualified after 2 and a half lap or earlier.

After exactly 50 restarts in less than one hour I tossed the disk back into its case. Can I have my money back, please?

Oh, and I cancelled pCars from my wanted games list.

Be patient, many times in this game when you want to overtake them immediately game will punish you. I've notice that there is plenty of time to find overtake spots.

As for controlling those modern era cars, turn off All aids, except ABS. Seriously turn them off! An you may find this game more likable, i had a real blast with it, and also used G27 👍

project cArs is going to be different animal. Ferrari is closer to Shift arcade game, project cars is further away from it. Closer to games like GTR and rFactor.

Lol @ cancelling project cars because an unrelated game was bad.

I might cancel my interest in GTAV because body count was bad.

Maybe you should change your approach if 50 restarts didn't do it?

And, if you want your money back, ask the shop you got it in, not us.

Oh, and I cancelled pCars from my wanted games list.
Very interesting news

Care to try this settings for the wheel?

I am impressed you give it 50 restarts. I won´t say you didn´t get it a chance then.

But general tips you really have to know the tracks. To do this don´t quit as soon as you realize you may not be able to achieve the goal. This is not efficient. You need to get laps in for future efforts. However often I find the first lap you do catch up and you do the real overtaking on the last laps so don´t be to stressed about lack of progress early on you may get surprised later on. I recon there is some rubber band thingie happening here.

Then it get a lot easier. Did you start with modern era? The way the game/sim is lay out they do let you learn one track at a time if you start at golden era, then silver and modern last. Knowing the tracks is A and O.

Also driving aids I really suspect that if you area decent driver and know how to use a wheel they will just slow you down. May be wrong though since I never use them :)

Dead zone is where you turn wheel and there is no reaction up to the moment where wheel finally reacts.

Set Dead Zone to 0 and Steering Sensitivity to 100 and you will have perfect sharp control. Then you have to find right Steering Degree angle for your personal preference.

That's a very odd Monaco Circuit ... :odd:

That is because this is a very odd game. I bought both the PS3 and PC versions. The PS3 version was very playable using my CSR Elite wheel, but the graphics were crap and it was only single screen. The PC version looks amazingly better, with triple screen compatibility, but I cannot get the wheel settings dialed in. I gave up on it, despite committing at least 5-10 hours per version to it. The game is also way too hard.

Its amazing to me that this game was made by the same guys that are doing Project CARS, which is already light years ahead of this game in every department.

That's because Ferrari Racing Legends is old game. It was developed after NFS: Shift 1. And then SMS studios had to put it away because of Legal issues, with Ferrari License they cars for Microsoft. And firs DLC for Xbox included Ferrari Cars, so in order to release game for both consoles and PC, SMS studios had to wait until this license expire.

Few years after they finally released full game which is indeed old game :) Never the less it's good, and for NFS:Shift games fans it's almost obligatory. 👍

Huh, weird, TD: FRL is one of Steam's weekly deals this week, 33% off. I think I'll still pass, 33% will probably be 50% in the next big Steam sale, but I was tempted for a second there.

I'm not even a fan of NFS shift games and I love it. It's a great game. Though it can be a bit frustrating at times, just like Shift the collisions with other cars are ridiculously exaggerated, the smallest tap from another car will send you out of control. Other than that it's a lot of fun.

Oh and in the longer races, when the tires wear off, it becomes nearly impossible to drive. If the tires are going to get that bad you should be able to pit, but the AI doesn't so you'll lose if you even try that. Small details though. You really get a lot for your money because the career mode is super long, and challenging.

Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends for PC is $7.49 on Amazon US until the 31st, I believe. It registers on Steam. There are ways to purchase it if you're outside the US but it would be naughty of me to discuss them.

Nice final touch before ill put this game for good. 👍 Some good memories there, this game proves that Shift 2 could also not freeze and could run smoothly.

Did they ever come out with a patch for the PC version? The game never worked right for me, it had 2 killer bugs and I had to get my money back last year.
