Test drive - Vehicle speed testing thread

Jet pack slow...but it has to be the best thing to use when taking back your gang territories.....soaring and shooting, combining my two favorite pastimes

i agree.. but you should be able to use more weapons while soaring :)

I have a problem with the Jetpack... sometimes when I put it on it fails to select the correct weapon (i.e. SMG/Uzi) so I then am stuck without the ability to shoot!! Altho I like the way you can still use double Uzi and control it at the same time?!

I got a few more done today - PCJ600, Bravura, Fortune and Taxi.

It seems to be easier with slower cars for some reason. Getting a clean run with the PCJ600 was a pain though.

It also occured to me that I could have use the oval runway track in Las Venturas airport and picked a number of laps to do with each car. No traffic there. I could have driven it once slowyl and checked my starting and finishing distance driven to calculate the distance. I could have set a rule of staying within the middle line and the outside of the track.

It's a bit late now.

Major update. Vehicles now have topspeed, weight and drivetrain listed.

Quadbike seem kind of strange cause you get the same time wether your ducking, standing up or riding as usual, but then it's a strange vehicle as you improve your car driving skills for riding it. I guess the game treats it as a car but I put it with the bikes even if it does blow up if tip it over.

I read this earlier and when I was in the area-- I tried it with a cabbie-- the turn for the oval is too tight and it slides way wide--- would likely not have given consistant data.

As an American, I don't care really but if you want to put it in for the fastest vehicle, that would be cool (I don't want you to put yourself out for this).

I have a little racetrack that I like running every now and then at the San Fiero Airport thats full throtle all the way around with a Bullet.

1. Red marker that should be rounded on the outside.

2. A Beagle spawns here at times, no real danger cause there is a lot of space on either side of it. Follow the yellow line thats on the right side of the Beagle.

3. The turn in point is where the yellow line branches off to the right. You will end up close to the white hangars to your left.

4. There is a dashed white line that starts at the edge of the runway, follow it to get to point 5.

5 and 6 are the big danger spots on the track. 5 is a big lightpost and 6 is a red marker. You need to go around on the outside of both. There is about 2 car lengths between the post and the water on your left. Don't go to close to the post cause hitting it sends you in to the water, but so does going to wide and not making the corner. If you fall in there is a Coastguard boat close by to take you to shore.

7. The bridge is no problem as long as you take a conservative line. The Bridge exit can be tricky if you are carrying a lot of speed. There is a ramp on that you might hit if you run to wide that will send you tumbling if you get it wrong

I don't have a real finishline for the track but the bridge or red marker should do nicely. It's a really nice track to practice your drifting skills on when it gets wet.

This is a post from page one that nobody's answered yet, feel free to continue on topic after basking in my wisdom.

I'm on it. BTW its only now that I noticed that the L.V. Police car is different from the other two and not based on the Premier, R* might be using the model from Vice for that one? Only not green and white this time.
The Vice City squad car/ taxi was a Dodge 600*. The ones in SA (and Liberty for that matter) are all Chevrolet Caprices**, the LV ones are just older models.

*there was probably an equivilent Plymouth, I don't know what it was called if there was one.

**'Elegant' in the game, right? Anybody want to make a 'real car names' thread?

Blanks:
Intruder: It looks a lot like an old Subaru Legacy with a long hood to me, but it's rear wheel drive and makes V8 noises.
Picador: 2nd gen Chevrolet El Camino
Previon: 3rd gen Honda Prelude
Euros: 2nd gen Nissan 300ZX
Turismo: Ferrari F40

Opinions:
Manana: I haven't taken a good look at one in SA, but back in Liberty they looked a lot more like the Mexican market mid-80s Dodge Magnum
dodge_magnum___86_mex.jpg

Tanker: the hexagon grill surround looks like a Mack dump truck to me. Could also be a Ford
Linerunner: Freightliner, I guess.
Roadtrain: It's an Australian thing. Google 'roadtrain', you'll see what I mean.
Alpha: Dodge Avenger, sort of. I guess.
Stratum: My first thought on seeing it was 'Audi', but I guess it's as much an Accord. (RWD though)
Cabbie: Checker (this is actually a manufacturer, like the London Cab co.)
Dumper: This is probably supposed to be a Cat 797, since those are the most famous.
DFT-30: Just for the sake of naming it, I'll say Nissan. I've seen VWs and Benzs that look more or less like this too though.

That list Missed the Stallion. Although the name would hint otherwise, I think it looks more like a Mercury Cougar then a Mustang. (It's a pretty vauge aproximation of either, though.)

Picador: 2nd gen Chevrolet El Camino
Definitely. There's one that drives around near my place. Almost identical.
Emohawk
Roadtrain: It's an Australian thing. Google 'roadtrain', you'll see what I mean.
Yeah. I'm Australia. I'm sure most of us Aussies would recognise the Roadtrain.

That was actually discussed from GTA 3 on another Forum I was on. It's definite.

I've had one of those discussions, too. It looks nothing like a Mustang. I think I recall someone calling it a Chevy, although I don't see a resemblance to any.

I'll also disagree with you on the Manana. The picture you posted doesn't resemble the Manana from memory.

It is a lot like a Liberty city Manana, but I haven't even driven one in SA yet. There's a whole lot of boring sedans that I've never stolen, so I don't even know which one of those it is.

To me, it doesn't look like any car in San Andreas. The Manana in San Andreas is a little different than the ones in the previous GTAs, but it still looks nothing like that car.

I think that the Emperor looks like a early 90s Nissan Maxima or Cefiro.

This isn't a great picture since the car in it is modified but not to much from the original look.

Bumpity Bump!

I added some more times.

I did the test both ducking down and normally with both the FCR900 and NRG500. I'll have to try it normally with the PCJ600 to get a comparison.

I think that the FCR900 seems faster than it actually is. I think that it sounds fast so when you're ducked down behind the windshield and zooming along the motorway, it seems to be a lot faster than the PCJ600, but it isn't really, I only beat it by 1 second around the circuit. Although, it's hard to keep ducked down when cornering, so that test isn't very accurate, but without ducking down, it's not really fast at all. The Landstalker beat it!

I also added others like the Hotknife, Elegant, Freeway (not ducking), Landstalker and some other boring ones.

I'll bump this thread if I get around to adding more times. I want to check the Buffalo because it seems very fast and the BF900 to complete the street bikes.

Can you provide a picture so I can compare?
musclecarclub.com
The front bumper and hood, yes. Rear bumper, a little. Everything in between, no.
The reason it looks nothing like a Mustang is that nearly none of the cars in GTA3 looked particularly like anything, and subsiquent Stallions were based on that. Not an actuall Mustang.

at first i thought it was an R32 skyline 4 door or some other Nissan too, but I'm leaning more toward a Subaru Impreza now. There's a buncha small cues, plus the car is grippy as hell.
